Yeah, god forbid people cultivate a mood for their story. Soooo amateur to listen to music. Shaming people isn't cute. You are not any better than other writers because you don't like listening to music. Not every person is you. I don’t know quite the problem with quotes like that, but in my opinion they never work because they’re just so extra. Like ugh, pa-lease. Maybe I’m just a cynic. If I were to rewrite it, I’d have to do it in a way where it doesn’t take itself seriously, like: “Oh, so I’m a siren?” She questioned playfully, batting her eyelashes innocently at him. “What would that make you? Some kind of mad pirate, I presume?” He laughed in turn, finding himself captivated by her nature. “For you, I would be anything you want,” he said, giving her his trademark wolfish grin. Her smirk widened. “But would you be able to resist my _terribly tempting_ call? Sirens are nasty creatures, you know. They’ll drag you to the depths of the sea and drop you to the grave without a second thought.”

No I think in this book it would continue like this: Mr Vlad Drăculea Rouge (I forgot his name, but I think this will work aswell) glimpsed at her violet eye with a stripe of confusion but lust. He slightly brushed against her bald head with his strong dominant alpha thumb. When he took it down Parmigiana Reggiana (forgot her name too) looked deeply into his male orbs “ you don’t like me now, do you, do I disgust you?”. Additionally she hid her magenta coloured eye from him with her bear foot. “No” he answered directly but masculine with his deep male voice since he is a man “you don’t. You adore me. You drive me mad. This..” he pointed between him and me with his strong male muscular veiny hand “this is madness” he barked. “You are madness my little bony fish” he grinned with a erotic tension between him and my bear foot.

perfect!...why don't we all just start calling them "boobily" novels? and then the description would be exactly what she said in the video: "fan-fictiony writting, poorly written smut scenes, mental health issues and romantization of abusive relationships". That would be perfect, right? And then we can finally have them be separate from regular books in any other genre, and life will finally make sense. Bc they're like 1% (maybe) of fiction books, but somehow have ended up with wayyyy too much media attention. It's not fair to expect them to be real books, and hold them to that standard. People expect them to have normal writting, spell checking, grammar, realistic characters, a plot, etc... and that's just not typical for Boobly books. We're holding them to a standard which is just unfair... clearly. It's like expecting Shakespeare from a bathroom wall.

I know someone who wrote poetry when they had insomnia. They DID expect it to be weird upon re reading. Imho it's ok to cherry pick the odd nugget when you're writing in a sub optimal state, but there's no reason to keep it all. Not everyone is Kafka (Kafka wrote exclusively in late evening).

It's because they're supposedly more charming and persuasive. You know, because they studied language? Also, English teachers tend to be younger (Or at least that's what I noticed where I live). You don't wanna hook up with old Mr. Higgins the math teacher

Now I wanna see a (legal) student-teacher relationship fic/book where the teacher/professor teaches mathematics or physical science and the entire book is just a long painful read of the teacher being blind to literally every advance said student makes and every chapter ends off a cliffhanger only for the next one to be the most anticlimactic scenario they could have possibly thought of. And it’s in the comedy genre.

I would say it's most commonly either the English/Literature professor or art/music/drama teacher as they're usually portrayed as young and so more cool and relatable to the kids (and if I may stereotype for a second, those are likely the subjects that romance authors are more interested in and find romantic). The only romance involving an Ethics professor as a love interest that I've seen is Chidi and Eleanor in The Good Place, and now I hate that they appear in a comparison with this terrible fanfic romance. It'd be ironic and even more hypocritical for an Ethics professor to have a relationship with a student, often in that fictional situation though it's the character's psychiatrist/therapist.

Reading these replies is interesting. I always just assumed it was because we’re authors/writers, meaning English is bound to be one of the subjects we’re good at/enjoy. I didn’t realise it was due to a whole stereotype, but that makes a lot more sense. Mind you out of the bunch of books I’ve read on Wattpad of this teacher x student genre, I remember one being a Calculus teacher and one being a History teacher iirc? Then English, English, I forget but probably English, English, you get the picture. (Don’t ask why I read so many txs books 😇)

Preach. I think it’s very sweet that Leonie avoided kinkshaming by acknowledging that every folk has their own stroke and that’s fine, but when does it stop? So much romanticisation of these toxic, manipulative people is rampant throughout literature - everywhere I see mafia stories and toxic werewolf alphas and billionaire playboys, it just gives me the ick. When fiction affects reality, the problem begins. I believe unironically that every book with this romanticisation featured should have a disclaimer at the beginning making it clear for readers that this is FICTIONAL and that people acting like this in real life is not okay.

I have an idea. At the end of the book we find out that it was written by Vad. So, even though it was written from the perspective of Corvina, in fact it is all just his experience, his point of view. And that makes me theorise that Corvina... Probably was not a character we saw her to be. She even could never exist. As far as I understood, he has a sister, who is pretty controlling. Or I even would say a bit crazy and possessive. She even thinks she has a right to kill some of people he loves. And maybe such a behaviour was really traumatic for him, so he got a bit insane. I think, there was a second he turned from just traumatised person to completely ruined - the death of his previous love. After that, everything that was happening, was not completely real. The first meeting of main characters happens at night, when Vad plays on piano. And maybe, that was never happened. Let me explain. Maybe, he saw Corvina at first some hours before this meeting, when she arrived at the school. However, she didn't notice him, being busy. But for him it didn't matter, because he fell in love with her from the first sigh. She was extremely beautiful for him, that was a real passion appeared in his heart. And even though they didn't even met each other Vad believed, that they should have a romance. Since that second he couldn't forget about this girl. This night, he was not even able to sleep, burning from a big desire to talk to her. And, spending a sleepless night alone with a piano, he maybe fell asleep and had a dream, or maybe had a hallucination that Corvina came to him. That was make no sence because it was deep night, but it happened in his head. And the reason Corvina immediately fell in love with him was that he wanted to imagine it that way. In common, what I am trying to say is that our main female character was indeed an ordinary student he fell in love. Because of traumatic experience in last relationship he was afraid to actually come up with her and become partners. So, he started to imagine it all, and the figure of Corvina in his mind was not the real girl. It just looked as his new student did, but, since he had no idea what personality she possessed, her character was made up by him as he wished it to be. Since that moment, let's keep it all in mind and look on situations in the book with new eyes. There are some things that I think, make sence in that case: 1. Remember how everybody was saying main characters have big chemistry? Maybe, the reason to it was that Vad actually behaved very attached to Corvina, obviously liking her. That was a one-side love of his, and everybody probably noticed that. 2. Do you remember the boy that was a reason for Vad's jealousy? Maybe, that was real Corvina's boyfriend. And the fact they are together made him even more possessive about the imagined Corvina. 3. Oh, yes, the possessiveness. I guess, the reason he was like that was the fact, that she was his fantasy. It was a part of him, of his mind, and of course, he didn't want to lose part of his own soul. He was really afraid to lose their love cause of previous experience, and wished to claim, to control this girl completely. So that was not just possessiveness towards another person, but to the last love figure he had in his mind. 4. Also, do you remember how they were in library, and she had no underneath? I guess, that is also because the scenary of them having hot time together was one of his fantasies, which were all perfect. Every piece of them was imagined as he wished that to be. And the reason sometimes Corvina behaves strange was just because he wanted it to be this way. 5. In addition to that, what happened in the car was also his dream. The real Corvina asked him to deliver a letter, and he immediately started to imagine how they will have a ride together. Being in the middle of the rain, alone in the car, he sincerely wished to have her beside him. 6. I think, there is a possibility, that real Corvina did actually have normal parents. The relationship of the female mc and her insane overprotective mother was just a mapping of Vad's and his sister's relationship. Mr Deverill probable needed a girl who is not just the object of his love, but also a person who can completely understand his pain. And the reason Corvina had such a strange mother is this - it was just a projection. 7. Also, I believe that real Corvina had no mental problems. Imagining his love has the same problems hr has (like voices in his head) was nothing but an attempt to cope with his own madness. 8. Also, a tiny, tiny detail that makes sence is that the name Corvina is not only connected with crows, but with a fish. Maybe, Vad didn't know about the second meaning, butin his mind the fact that he understands the sence of this word made him feel like he is really meant to our girl. And that is why he was calling her crow - he really liked that concept. Well... I hoped you enjoyed my theory😂. Maybe, you have something to add, would be interesting to hear it. Have a good day!

Now this would be genuinely interesting.. Reminds me of Shutter Island a bit. It'd have to be really well written though, I haven't read the actual book but from the excerpts I assume the writing style would have to be slightly different, and it couldn't be all revealed just at the end either.. I personally really dislike smut books, because it feels more like a dramatic p*rn script than a book. I don’t mind sexual scenes in well written books but I noticed that smut books are just terribly written. I agree. Either it's a good book that is well written OR it's some online stories written down that I can scroll through in order to "pleasure myself" fast without even caring about the plot or the quality of writing while not taking it seriously as a story. I don't understand people buying actual pretty books with bad and terrible smut writing in them and then taking it seriously. And then people are even analysing the characters or putting their morals into it by saying some characters are toxic. C'mon: It's porn. No man even would watch a porn with a teacher/student roleplay and then say: "But that's illegal and toxic!".

I couldn't read smut in an actual book either as I dislike romance as a genre in general, but I disagree with your "I guess it's because these kind of books are meant for people who [...] just aren't capable of reading difficult writings or poetic writings." statement. I read both stuff like classic literature and books with more heavy topics, and fanfiction - which sometimes has a genuine plot but is most of the time just smut. It doesn't say anything about someone's intelligence, it's just a preference. This stereotype, combined with that all fanfiction is bad and written by 13yos on Wattpad -- it's not, I've read many genuinely amazing works that interested me more than 'actual' books,, has to stop being perpetuated

One of the first things I learned long ago was that doing a full head-to-toe description of your characters upon first meeting is bad form. It halts the narrative dead for no real reason and doesn't read well unless you have a high-level grasp of your language and a talent for writing. Which I don't. 😂 I find, from me, that it's much better to parse that type of information out over the course of several pages organically as they interact with other characters or objects in the environment. Those are the type of lessons you learn as you do revision work and have test readers giving you feedback.

wait hang on sorry, as a forensics nerd, THAT'S NOT HOW DEAD BODIES WORK LMFAOOOO "she died two years ago and then was burned post mortem some time in the last two months, probably to make her harder to identify." bones. those are bones. that's not a corpse anymore, unless it's been carefully preserved or mummified, and considering the fact that it's in the woods, it seems highly unlikely that the body is just somehow mummified. also, it takes a LOT of effort to identify a body when there's just bones, especially if it's a partial skeleton. here we can assume that this is a full skeleton, and i have no idea how long of a gap there is between the discovery of the body and the identification, but like even if the pool of potential victims is incredibly small because these are school grounds and there's only a handful of people that go missing, if even that, it would take them for-fucking-ever to even THINK that the corpse belongs to someone that's still alive? jade wouldn't even be on the LIST for potential victims. ain't no way yes this is nitpicky but aaaaaAAAAAAAAAAGH it's just another example of how the author Doesn't Know How This Shit Works

@@love-of-fiction it's simply a romance book; one i got the idea of by a prompt generator so it's nothing to be taken seriously & the plot is a bit cheesy, it's about this up and coming journalist that simply despises the ritualistics of marriage and all the troubles that come with it. until a close friend of her's spring's the new's onto her that she's been 1. engaged, 2. is having a wedding & 3. has / decided / our protagonist will be the maid of honor, when our protag eventually accepts shes on her merry way to the airport and on a flight soon enough; swallowed by her hypocratic woes of having no date, she takes full advantage of the alcohol on the flight and end's up wasted, within that she passes out on her seatmates shoulder: yet when she gets to the venue, she sees her seatmate. the same one of whoms shoulder she'd passed out on. this is a long and drawn out version though, if you'd like to check the prologue out, lemme know.

@@veil9326 I would like to see the prologue, I would, I would! Also the plot being cheesy just makes me more interested. You’re talking a person who thinks that the original Lady and The Tamp is the best romance movie ever, I live for the cheese.

Yes! Except not a joke...the author was seriously going for edgy pretty raven and landed on fish. If you replace every time he calls her "little crow" with "little fish" it'd be a much better book lmao

When people say that these kinds of books have a "fanfic" dynamic me, as a fanfic reader, i get offended. Like how dare you compare fanfics to those b*llshits. Most of the fanfics i have read have better explanation of the plot than this☠☠☠

I did start to teach at 27, but my thesis was so narrow and was a source of so much frustration that I was tearing my hair out trying to get it approved. I am glad it was so demanding. It made writing so much easier when I had the focus. I'm starting to think Mr. Deverell printed his degree from an office supply store and bought a frame at Walmart. “Mr. Deverell graduated this year from the University of College.”

This entire book is literally the one scene in Twilight where Bella and Edward are in the woods and Bella says: "I know what you are"- and Edward goes "Say it-" "Vampire." and bam that is the ENTIRE book. That is this book. It's that scene. Dragged out.

Me, suddenly, just trying to remember if that scene in Twilight even went the same way in the books as it did in the movie-thanks. 😅😅 🤣
