What also sucks is that in some people, it might also be a matter of realizing something is bad, but not getting help because "hospitalizations happen to other people". I should know, I was one of them (I still credit my cousin with saving my butt, as he was the one saying to go to the hospital). Not so much an arrogance thing, but more so of thinking that it's not that bad or that hospitalizations happen to other people. Having Jason pop in also shows the importance of having a friend or family member who's not afraid to ask if you're ok, as having a second perspective can be enough for some people to realize "huh, I probably should go to the hospital".

I lost a good friend who kept going to her doctor for all over body pain and, later, a terrible cough. He assumed she was a pill seeker. She went to a new doctor, who had her diagnosed with cancer in the first appointment. We lost her a few weeks later. Moral of the story, don't let the arrogant doctors stop you from getting the care you need from good doctors. Seek a second opinion.

Please remember this as you travel through your career…listen to your patients and determine which thing is the most important right then. I work among the homeless population who can have complex health issues if they also have addictions. Example of a doctor not thinking- a client trusted me enough to show me his legs & I said he needed to be seen that day (they were probably horridly infected) & to be honest about his LSD use so a treatment plan can take that into consideration. He reports back that the doctor focused on his drug use & wanted him to quit. She didn’t really look at his legs. I don’t know what happened to him. This is an example of bad judgment. Great, he’s clean but now a double amputee.

There are lots of valid reasons people don't trust their doctors. The "Advanced Chiropractic Relief LLC" channel has shown many patients who where recommended severe back surgery by their doctors and people who have had severe back surgery that didn't help who got relieve from the chiropractic procedures. I think its safe to say most doctors want you to be healthy, but that doesn't stop corruption. I have a friend who was trying to get some heart stuff done and they made him do 4 tests that cost him a good bit of money and when his primary doctor found out he was furious because they where test that didn't need to happen and the people who gave the test KNEW they didn't need to happen and they did it anyway because M O N E Y. TL:DR If you don't trust your doctor, see another doctor to get a second opinion.

@@Aztesticals I mean that might work if they had brain cancer of a specific type and at a specific stage. (Assuming those are accurate symptoms.) But at that point, you're already diagnosing them somehow. Doctors don't do a "screen for every type of cancer" procedure. They rely on you to tell them symptoms, history, family history, etc to decide what to screen for. If the person in your example went to the hospital, they would likely find out he was on drugs, and that's it.

My mum picked at her 'blood blister' for about a month before casually showing it to the doctor (by that point was visibly getting bigger, black, bloody, spawning more little black lumps and everyone else had been telling her to get it checked for weeks). The reaction of the doctor was "okay, you need surgery and an oncologist. RIGHT NOW." (god I love her doctor). Another family friend battled lung cancer for years that just started with a cough that wouldn't go away; we lost her unfortunately. Contrast with my sister, whose mole recently 'changed' and her doctor told her "yeah, you can't have cancer because you're 29. Come back in when it gets bigger." Uh, no, that's not how cancer works, mate! My sister found someone to remove and biopsy that sucker ASAP. Turns out it was benign, but everybody told her she did EXACTLY the right thing (her GP is an ass). Point is, it's never just nothing if it suddenly changes. Seeking medical help doesn't make you weak and advocating for yourself doesn't make you a 'burden'. It makes you ALIVE. Good on Jason for getting behind this message!

@@msthecommentator2863 Unfortunately, bias against women is still a prevalent thing in medicine. Of course, it's rarely intentional, but women are often still seen as overly sensitive, paranoid, or just hysterical. An amusing thing in coincidence with this is that the word "hysteria" itself comes from the Greek word for "womb / uterus," with "ia" being a condition. The medical bias against women is literally hidden in our daily vocabulary.

We were taught in high school in health class how to palpate our testes to make sure they were ok. I checked every 2-3 months. Then one day I checked and found a difference. I called my doc the next day and told him. He had me in that night. I went to the urologist the next day and had my testicle removed on monday. I went in for chemo a week later after they implanted my porta-cath. CANCER SUCKS. Being dead is worse. Listen to this guy. It spread to my lung and my liver. The doc said it was aggressive and I was lucky I found it and came in right away. 4.5 months of chemo. If you think you might be sick, get checked. Right away.

This couldn't be a more important message for people to really pay attention to. My mother a couple of years ago started having abdominal pain and swelling that was obviously not normal but she didn't go to the doc right away. eventually after her abdomen was swollen as far as it could possibly be and she was no longer able to breathe correctly because of the fluid build up pressing on her lungs she went to get checked out and was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer that had spread all over. She didn't make it six months after even with the strongest chemo available, god rest her soul. It is so incredibly important to get checked out by a doctor when there is something abnormal going on. Life is precious and your pride isn't worth the time that you could potentially have with your family. Great video, I really appreciate the message in this one.

Sometimes it's harder than it should be to find a good doctor. Sometimes you have to go in multiple times to find one and when you find one you like they might be booked out and you have to wait a while to see them. Couple that with the inconvenience of having to take time off work and I understand why some people might shrug off changes in their health. Still, it's important to catch things early. Way more inconvenient to catch some of these conditions too late.

One day my dog had a lump near her throat. Everyone told me I was hysterical and overreacted as I was ready to take her to the pet ER. Turns out it was lymphoma, and after 11 months and some chemo, she passed away a week ago. I am glad that I did not ignore her health and ignored the people in my life telling me I am blowing it out of proportion. This experience of caring for a sick pet made some close family members show me their true colors and the relationship has never been the same. Looking out for yourself and others, even pets, is important because you never know when it is something as serious as cancer. I would rather take my dog in to the ER and have them tell me it was something mild and treatable, rather than ignore it and learn the hard way…when it is too late. Great PSA!

I wasn't until COVID that I reached a breaking point and almost ate myself to death (at 320 lbs at my heaviest) and I truly got help. I've lost 70 pounds and plan on keep going, and it's entirely thanks to my PCP for listening to me and not trivializing my feelings. Persistent cough? Have some days where you can't get out of bed? With no family history, don't smoke, don't drink, exercise regularly and had no risk signs, I just found out I had stage 1 cancer last year during a routine screening. In finding that cancer early, they did more scans and we found another, completely different stage 1 organ cancer. I got surgery for both of them and didn't even need chemo. Meanwhile, a friend my same age back home felt unwell for about 6 months and when finally went in, found she had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She died a month later. I'm 48 years old. Do your routine screens! Especially colon cancer! Do not think it won't happen to you. Early detection saved my life. Cancer is a race against the clock. Catch it early and treatment is usually very successful. Finding it even 6 months later can make all the difference between a 80% survival rate and a 40% survival rate with very invasive treatment.

Another thing the website doesn't say, but needs saying: DON'T ASSUME THE WORST. Just because you hear the word "cancer" doesn't mean jack. I've come here after stumbling across your hilarious shorts. I wanted to say thank you for lightening the tone. During my role as a community aged carer I had to undergo annual first aid training so I would know how to respond in the even of arriving at a residence to find the sole occupant unresponsive, or in serious need of emergency medical care - the latter of which were usually fiercely independent, and resolute in their determination that it wasn't that bad and would surely clear up. I always left my refresher classes with more confidence and remembering more of my training when it was delivered by someone who could present the training with humour and anecdotes, yet a resolved firmness on what required emergency treatment and shouldn't be ignored.

@@ahill4642 so if you have a patch (like where your bra strap rubs, or your brother have you an Indian burn) but it goes away in a week or so, that's probably fine. But I had it all over my legs.
