Hey everyone. I really wanted to include more CPUs in this one but as mentioned I don't own the ones I wanted to test against. I'm thinking of continuing the gaming shootout with a 5800X3D, 5700X, 7600X and on Intel perhaps the 13600k and 12600k? Thoughts / suggestions?

To me the 5600x3d falls into 2 camps. 1) Upgrade an older AM4 platform to its final form 2) Create a nice last gen platform. It would have been nice if you could have included numbers from the 5600 non x3d, and a processor from the start of the AM4 platform. Showing the x3d boost and an upgrade scenario.

I think for most people the potential CPU upgrade path is a lot less important than you might think it is. I've built a ton of systems for people and in general they do not upgrade past the initial purchase except maybe slotting in a new GPU or adding more storage. The vast majority of people do not perform major upgrades every couple years. They buy a good system, and use it until it's really getting too old and slow. That's often longer gaps in-between than any socket lasts.
@nateTrh
@nateTrh 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, the average npc just buys then dumps their system like most people do cars. It's more so enthusiasts or people that keep up with technology that care about upgrading/maintenance. It's sad because people used to care a lot more about their things but now people can't even be bothered to support right to repair. Also, people are used to 2 year Intel cycles so they're not used to upgrading the cpu in general.

Yep that’s how I feel. My 2018 rig showing it’s age. Going to upgrade the AM4 CPU and GPU and ride that out. The other components still have some life, 750W PSU, 32gb b die ram, NVMe SSD. Once that’s over, it’s time to sell and do a full rebuild. But I wouldn’t expect that for another 5 years or so

i feel like amd has been different though. look how long am4 lasted. and now Intel might be using lga 1700 socket for another cpu, which would make that 3 cpus. Times feel different because z690 mobo and 13th gen is actually still a great combo, unlike for instance 9900k on z370. I think we will start to see smaller and smaller generational leaps in performance with cpus and them using sockets for a little longer now, with more refreshes.

thats so dumb too cause upgrading a gpu is super expensive and give you maybe 20 or 30 more fps while slotting in a new cpu will double ur fps giving u a 150-200+ fps increase for a fraction of the cost of a new gpu

We kept getting smaller and better but for a long time but it seems they have hit a bit of a wall with it for some reason. But I agree with you that we will see this a bit more, i ran a 4 series intel for years and got a refresh 4770k haswell chip for it and manages to strech that pcs life into the 20 series gpu era. Its worth while for enthusiasts pc users for sure. Micro center needs to just take your pc upgrade it and give it back for the avg user tho.

For all it's issues, AM4 has been an absolute beast of a platform for AMD. 4 generations (seeing as there wasn't a proper retail 4000 series) of CPU on a single socket and you can still see previous gen CPUs on AM4 trading blows with AM5 in certain workloads. It was a bit of a kick in the teeth when my 2950x was beaten out by the 3000 series in performance and then socket X399 never got another generation of Threadripper. 20/20 hindsight, bit of a bad investment there. Though I guess I could have gone to the 2990wx for the extra cores. My x570 system is still holding it's own, so much so I will probably wait another generation or 2 before upgrading it. Pity the 5600x3d is microcenter exclusive, we don't have microcenter in my country, would be fun for some overclocking and benchmarking.

Those same people "probably" sit on either deadend motherboards with deadend CPUs or on 3600+ CPUs. And for those same people - it's better to invest those spare ~250$ into a GPU to get the performance boost. Like, literally, if you are sitting on some 3060 and you have an opportunity to liquidate it for some 250$ while adding 250$ on top for 4070(or even 3080\ti used) - that's a MUCH bigger improvement. The FPS that Jay shows are with 4090 or otherwise "for-test-purposes" card. You won't get that much FPS if you improve 1600 for 5600xDDD on some 3060. Well, perhaps, you'll get like 10 fps, faster loading times, higher 1% lows, but that's it. Not that getting a 3080 for 1600 would be a great idea, but... 3080 you can put into the new system, whereas 5600xDDD would be forever stuck in AM4. The only more or less sensible upgrade that I could imagine would be some B450\2600 kid who had his parents buy the PC, but over the years he got a job and earned his first grand or something. He could somewhat make it work. But anything less than B450 is a dead motherboard(X370 owners probably have either upgraded already or aren't running 1600) and anything better than 2600 is a perfectly capable CPU that doesn't need to be upgraded. After all - this is all just 6 cores "purely for gaming" scenario. And 6 cores is shit. And gaming isn't the end all be all. When I bought my 5600 - it was like 150$, and that's already a much better bang for the buck.

I actually ended up recently upgrading from a 3700x to a 5900x, as the 5900x has dropped all the way down to $299. I use my system for working from home, so productivity matters to some extent, though I'm not doing as much photo or video editing as I used to. Once I'm clocked out, I use my system for 1440p gaming using an RTX 3080 12GB. I read and watched tons of reviews comparing the 5800x3D and the 5900x and nearly all of them focused on 1080p gaming, not 1440p. I didnt finally find some reviews that measured gaming performance for 1440p and 4k. At 1440p, the 5900x and 5800x3D are pretty much neck and neck, trading blows depending on the specific game. Overall, I made the decision to buy what I considered the more balanced all-around CPU. I wish more reviews did a larger spread of resolutions to represent the balance and load changes between the CPU and GPU. I understand why 1080p testing is important for a gaming CPU, but when comparing CPU-vs-CPU from a balance standpoint or a value proposition, I feel like there's an argument to be made for the relevance of 1440p.

Looking at it for my needs, general browsing and light gaming, I'm honestly happy with my 1600AF, i just need a better GPU (1060 3gb OC), but looking to upgrade as I feel it's time price wise, I can get, as Jayz says, the R5 5700X for $189.00 a roughly $40.00 savings over the performance I doubt I'd ever see. That could go towards RAM upgrade or added as i said to a better GPU

Nvidia is so out of touch that it’s comical last gen outperforms their current gen with exception of the two flag ships but it takes a real enthusiast / mental case to drop the kind of money or more than a nice system that can play new titles and come in about $1250 US. I'll be buying the bundle tomorrow. I usually don't build a system with an upgrade path in mind. Seem like a waste upgrading. Then you have unused parts laying around, or you have to try to sell used parts. It's easier to sell the whole system and build new. So buying an end of life part is fine with me. When I'm ready to move on to a newer system I'll sell the old one and start from scratch.

The 5600x3d is compelling for the price point if I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money for a but of a bump in gaming. I won't be near a Microcenter any time soon so unless I come up on a 5800x3d for a great price I'll likely just upgrade the whole rig sometime down the line.

Example: watch?v=81kAorV30Vc (Remember tho, that Cyberpunk ha a problem with AMDs 8Core Processors, that do not work as intended, especially the SMT part as CDPR has optimized for Hexacores, but there is a fixed executable for Cyberpunk out there that gives the 8cores a pretty decent boost, increasing CPU performance of the 8core cpus by up to 20%)

There are no performance gains if your GPU is in middle class territory like RX 5700 XT - RX 6800. And the savings as it is right now are only when you choose AM4. There is still the cheaper upgrade option to a 5800 X3D instead of a 7700 X. And when the time has come the AM5 platform has gotten cheaper and there will be new chipsets available (in 18+ months). But who knows ... maybe in 3 years a Ryzen 5800x/ 5800 X3D is still a solid CPU combined with mid-tear GPUs.

Not to mention the slower boot times (which isn't a big concern but would've been neat if it was fast) am4 platform is definitely more stable. There is also no rush to upgrade you can always save money by upgrading later on. So my question is can you do a info video about a working pc setup that can run 2 32inch 4k monitors, whats the best GPU for that kind of setup. Im planning to run a 13900k, but i have no clue what GPU to use. i dont want to spent money on things i never use or is overkill.

The question of RMA keeps coming up. When it comes to larger distributors of products that have a measurable failure rate, they will often keep a similar number available for warranty purposes until they no longer have any retail stock left. At that point, they will keep a percentage over time (like 1 year after it leaves the shelves they will drop down to 800 available for warranty instead of 1,000). This is why you sometimes see a surge of products that are easily two years old all hit the shelves at the same time. Those are warranty backups they have determined they will no longer need and can now sell.

Honestly, this seems like a really good upgrade for me if I'm not feeling like upgrading to AM5 just yet.

It's so frustrating that this will only be available at like only 5 stores in the USA. I assume we'll see them relisted on Amazon for $300 in a few days.

They lowered the bundle price to 299.99. Crazy price. I couldn't pass it up. Performance has been great. I replaced an old 6th gen i5. Also bought a used 6900xt from a buddy to go with it.
