Күн бұрынHey guys! The sun has been awesome lately and should only get better as we reach the peak of the solar cycle in ~2025. There's much to do! Will probably be following this up with the "Incident" Video shortly, but alot is in the works for this channel too! Let me know if you guys are interested in a guide video for processing and alignment as well, as I can do that if there is a desire for it.

Man I'm so glad I came across this video. 10,000 views? Is figure should have 10 million views. So amazing the people we read about in history books and we're talking about in school, kings, queens, royalty, conquers, explorers, dictators, powerful people to poor people alike up until now never had the ability to see the things we see in what detail we see them in with little to no effort. Things are at our fingertips and we take them for granted so much I think about what the great explorers would have done to have the use of a smartphone with navigation in it. What an amazing video an image you were able to capture. Thanks for your knowledge of this equipment your ability to use it and share it with us. We're really lucky

Yeah, there's so much available to us now. The science is all so accessible that you can just get some off-the-shelf/consumer equipment and see things that people never would've even thought of. It's super amazing

Awesome Kyle! Would be great if you could do a video detailing how you dialled it in, focus, fine tuning/pressure tuning etc. There is nothing out there, that I could find anyways, and I could definitely use some help. 😃

If you could do a tutorial on how you got those images, that would be great. Awesome time lapse! I just bought a lunt 50 today. I can't wait till it gets here! I'm excited to see how awesome the images are that you were able to get with it. I've never done solar photography but I hope one day I can get some as good as yours!

White filters are good for sunspots and high magnification shows some surface granulation, but it gets boring pretty fast. Hydrogen Alpha Solar Scopes is the way to go. Problem is even the 40mm is expensive and the 50mm will give you a better closeup than 40mm. Friend has a Coronado PST 40 and he says 50x is about as high as he can go and get a sharp focus. Another guy has a Lunt 40 and takes it to 70x and says it is sharp. I'm getting a 50mm B600 for video, the B400 blocking filter is fine for visual though.

I just bought a Lunt 50mm B600, like the last one Agena Astro had. Supposed to arrive tomorrow, Tuesday Mar 5. I'm putting it on my iOptron AZ Pro with a 102mm Maksutov with a White filter. Yeah it holds two scopes. Live in the desert of Southern New Mexico and I hope it won't be cloudy, but report is calling for partly cloudy and total on Wed.

In HAlpha you can see solar flares too, they apper as bright spots flashes. when i was following solar activity i used to use nso halpha network as it updated faster then SDO data, as they are on land. You can look goes xray flux graph to see if flare is occuring, they cause xray bursts and its actully used to measure and classify flare power, they very slow events in real time lasting minutes and if active region gets flarey it fire those in sequance, and sometimes active region becomes sparkly with some small flares that are less poweful then baseline xray radiation of sun to be noticable

The THa50/B600PT seems to be an interesting combination and is not _too_ expensive. With an ASI178MM, there should be sufficient true field of view even for the highest prominences while imaging the entires solar disk.

I just recently got my first scope, an 8” sct w/equatorial mount, my Astro camera hasn’t even arrived yet because it’s back ordered and I’ve already got the bug, I’m hooked, and now I HAVE to get a solar scope after watching this, gonna have to make some more money…

I have the Lunt60MT and love it. For the time lapse did you do a series of short videos over the 5 hours or one continuous video. I did a trial run for the eclipse last weekend and did 30s video every minute with a 174MM and wound up with 1.5 TBs of data. It was cloudy and I was more just testing out but I really love the Timelapse you did and just looking for some insight before the eclipse. PS just subscribed.

It was a series of videos. I don't remember what I had the duty cycle at, but 15 - 30 seconds every minute is probably what I used. My data was ~450 GB in total. I did do the partial solar eclipse last year in October and those settings seemed alright. I'd probably want to cut that down as we reach totality, just to capture that shift more. Whatever you decide to go with, automation is going to be our best friend for the totality. Don't want to miss the moment for a good picture!

Newton rings without barlow lens? Maybe it's the ASI 120 MONO. An obsolete camera. 4.0e read noise. Absolutely great resuts in timelapse anyway.

Thanks! and yeah, I considered putting more down for a new Mono camera, but I don't have much else I'd use one for. But I still want to stick with mono for solar for the light benefits as you know.

Monochrome cameras are going to perform better in narrowband situations like this (where I am filtering out all but one wavelength). This is because you can make use of every subpixel instead of having the RGGB Bayer Filter over top. A color camera in this scenario would only capture 1/4th of the light. If your instead asking why I kept it black and white instead of colorizing it, these colors feel more authentic to me since I captured it in Mono. Also didn't want to mess up recolorization since I haven't done that before lol

hey man u know that u can record UFO's if you shoot 4k 120fps and infrared. 4K to zoom in 120 fps to slow it down (they are really fast) infrared to be able to see them. you can point this camera to any sky any time and get something in a few days hopefully.

wow, I sold my telescope recently (Didn't have a choice really) but what is the sun rotation period? I would have extected to see some rotation during your 5hr exosure, Love your vids BTW

question the lunt 50 you have you are able to capture the entire sun? I know the camera matters a lot Ihave a ZWO ASI174MM

Yes I am with my zwo asi120mm. You'll have to see how the sensor size compares. I do think the 120 series had the smallest sensors though so yours should work?

@@garbageman9145 Assuming that the scope already has a dovetail and that you already have a mount in addition to the camera you mentioned, you shouldn't need anything else. When you get the scope, I would probably reset the pressure tuner, just screwing it all the way off then back on again (if my understanding is correct, may want to check Lunt's literature). Doing so re-centers your tuning range. Actually using the scope, First find a good focus, then dial in the tuner using the filaments on the surface. As far as locating and tracking goes, if you don't have a solar finder, just use the shadow of your scope to find the sun. Also, Solar System align with the sun has worked well for me thus far, but it does need to be enabled in the utilities menu before it shows up as an option. Good luck!

How does the 50mm compare to the 40mm? Did it include the blocking filter and focuser or did you have to purchase them separately on top of the $957 price tag?

The biggest differences are the Aperture (go figure) and the tuning method (Pressure vs Tilt). The bigger aperture should help resolve a bit more, you can probably find some comparisons online. The Pressure vs Tilt is a bit harder to explain and I'm not quite sure I understand the pros and cons myself. I assume Lunt has some material to cover that. All I really know is that my scope is working fine. There are some quirks though* As for the price, that $957 includes the basic Blocking Filter (B400) and Helical Focuser, but does not include Tax. People were recommending the B600 Blocking Filter for imaging the full disk, so I opted for that upgrade/swap which increased the price.

Is it just the camera in black and white? any color cams or pics? or is that the filter making it black and white?

Camera is mono (B/W). Since it's a Hydrogen Alpha Filter, the actual image that it produces is a deep red. I do not have any pics of that atm. Using a Mono camera is better in cases like this with single wavelength light due to some quantum efficiency reasons

I'm kind of a newbie. I'm seeing that you used a monochrome camera?? And it's also been discontinued. Do you have any other recommendations on monochrome cameras? I've heard that monochrome actually does better for the Sun than color. What is your suggestion? And thank you so much for these informative videos. Absolutely amazing!!

Hey! I did indeed use a monochrome. For these single-wavelength observations, Mono is the way to go since you don't have an unnecessary Bayer filter reducing your total light. And more light let's you cut your shutter and increase your FPS which is key in Lucky Imaging. I don't have experience with other Mono cameras as I normally shoot color, but can attest to the quality of ZWO's cameras. If that's too expensive, SVBony has some cheap options, but I can't say how well they work since I don't have one.

@@conorwoods2649I haven't seen anything significant thus far, but I do have two things to mention. 1.) The dovetail mounting holes are oddly spaced which might be a play by the mfg to promote their own dovetails (?). 2.) There is some regional brightness variation depending in part on the tuning. That's what causes the mild changes in brightness in the video. There's also some mild Einstein's rings, but they didn't seem to show up much, especially in the stacked images. I hear the "2.)" points though are generally common among the smaller models and it's kind of a unit-to-unit thing.

Storm? On the Sun? First time I've heard about it. You mean solar filaments? Storm is such a non-scientific and more of a clickbait title. Was that your intention?

"Rain" on the sun is a term that NASA uses sporadically. Solar Storm is also an official term, though it is less specific than solar flare. Storm is an accurate, albeit simple, term to describe the activity.
