Ive definitely run into the period of my life when I made a dress and there were fit issues and I forgot all about it and didnt fix it but I did get back to it after....6 months to a year at least. I love reusing or recycling or repairing parts of an ensemble since its gonna be a lot less wasteful to fix up something old rather than buy something new. I used an old dress to be the lining of my 1880s jacket since I didnt buy a lining when I went shopping and I was really proud of myself. Majority of my dresses and gowns tend to be made of a stretchable material so I could have flexibility and a nice tight fit but I tend to do mock-ups a lot so I dont have to waste my potentially expensive fabrics and regret it and never look at it. I love how the dress looks after the alterations and it looks brand new!!

Funny how I have the exact opposite experience with seam ripping! When I unpick hand stitched, it's one stitch at a time, and with the machine stitched it's just seam ripper go brrr

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I have a lovely drop waist teal skirt made from a vintage pattern, and it languished for years because I had accidentally swapped the front and back panels. This mistake made the front of the skirt a tiny bit too long and the back a tiny bit too short. I finally bit the bullet and re-did it, which I wasn't looking forward to because it involved undoing the entire waist panel which was lined. The results were SO worth it, but getting over that initial dread was hard! I LOVE the end result of your refit! Great Job!

It is helpful if you know what changes will make a difference. I wouldn’t know where to start. In the Viking Sagas, there is mention off a wife sewing her husbands sleeves closed at the cuff and lower forearms every morning.

I'd be happy if I could just get to the point of making a gown. I've been creating a pair of late victorian drawers for about 9 months now. 😆😩

This is lovely! I'm only just getting to grips with that skill of being able to look at your own work, identify what's not right and figure out how to fix it. I had a blouse where I had made the Peter Pan collar all wrong, an hour or so of work has fixed it and I love it now, but it took weeks to admit that there was a problem! 🤦

I love how your gown turned out! I too have an italian gown that I need to remake. My issue is that I lost quite a bit of weight and it's too big now. You inspired me to get to that project as soon as I finish a few projects that are in the works 😊

This is pure inspiration! I made an early 1600s dress a few years back, rushed before an event, that I immediately knew I wanted to revisit later. However, I have yet to do so. This is definitely giving me a kick to do it. Your dress already looked nice now it is gorgeous. :-) Those few changes really made a difference.

Wow, it really turned out lovely! I'm just about to redo a huge 16th century gown because the shoulders are constantly sliding halfway down the arm and it looks pretty bad. I've been anxious thinking I'd have to redo the bodice and sleeves entirely, but now I'm encouraged that a few small fixes might solve the problem. I might not even have to get new fabric since the skirt is ginormous and taking out the needed fabric won't diminish it too much. This video really helped a lot!

I saw someone brilliant (probably here on youtube, I'm sorry that I can't remember who to give them proper credit!) who puts on the other sleeve while setting in one... so that she doesn't accidentally set in the wrong sleeve. I thought it was inspired.

Ohhhhhhh this is so amazing! I have been working to reduce my body weight, and worried about what I would do if I lost wt and needed to adjust my tight fitting costumes, but you showed that its actually, totally do-able. And if I leave myself room in the seam allowances, I can accommodate changes in either direction. :).

I found your video very helpful. I'm in the process of sewing my very first dress and I'm fiddling a little with the fitting. You mentioned your shoulder strap was originally cut on the bias and that's what my patterns tells me to do, but from what you said it might not be a good idea. I'm a little bit confused now 😬

I love videos like this that show you go about fixing issues with a garment. It's so helpful. But the autofocus going in and out is driving me nuts. I feel like I'm losing my eyesight.
