Up until the city of Orange ordered the homeless to vacate the Santa Ana river/bike trail, that whole area had been skid row. Now that it's been cleared of the homeless, it saves me about a half an hour on my morning commute by cycling to work (I kind of want to get an electric, but I suppose it's keeping me in shape without).

As someone who lives in the Netherlands where we get born with a bike attached to our little bottoms, I totally get your comments on the zen feeling although I feel it’s way easier here to get in the zone because in the Netherlands the traffic is basically designed around bicycle travel. So you don’t feel scared when biking around. (Also the Netherlands is a lot tinier then well anything in the USA)

I think the main issue with US cities is that they are huge. Everything is far way. Most European cities have everything you need pretty close in comparison. I´m from Lisbon and in my hometown (on the south side of the river) I have everything at walking distance. Other things I can ride a bike and enjoy it. I remember going to Las Vegas and everything was far AF. During the trip we visited SEMA show, usually we would use a car to get there and seemed pretty close. One day me and a friend decided we would go sooner and walking, to enjoy the city. Took us one hour to get there. It's like the city extended and made the show further then the day before. lol

I have been bike commuting in LA since I moved here over year ago. I currently ride from Highland Park to Hollywood 4-5 days a week (30 miles/day, non-electric assist road bike), and I am definitely one of a very small (but present) number of cycle commuters in the city. I think it takes a certain kind of dedication/crazy to ride constantly out here, but once you know the roads, side streets, and bike paths you can get almost anywhere. It is unquestionably a lifestyle - it governs what I wear, what I eat, and what I deem necessary to bring to work every day. It encourages a minimalist approach to what I bring to work, and I think it ultimately leads to healthier life decisions and a better quality of life. I love biking in LA!

Jake you shouldn't carry a heavy load in a backpack when biking. Every time you move your body you'll lift the weight. Get a set of pannier bags and let the bike frame take the load.
@johnfrancisdoe1563
@johnfrancisdoe1563 5 жыл бұрын
Miner 2049er Start by getting that full size rear rack installed. A backpack like that can be put there no problem and the set of side bags added for heavy load days. As a dad of a small kid, also get the child seat and footrests for carrying an under 6yo passenger. Of cause there are also bikes with serious load compartments that can comfortably hold two kids getting dropped off at school or a complete desktop computer in it's box.
@SurprisinglyDeep

Theres various things he could use like a Burley Travoy foldable pull behind trailer (which I use and can vouch for), a Dumb Stick to attach a trailer to or any number of dog or child trailers he could attach to the rear rack. He could also just use panniers. He could also attach a milk crate to the top of the rear rack.

Used to cycle 16 miles round trip to work, 7 days a week (care worker, yep, no time off) on a regular push bike. Even in the deepest snow and foulest weather when colleagues claimed they couldn't make it to work by car. Still cycle, never driven. A few suggestions to make your biking experience more enjoyable: - Wear a helmet - Wear a highly visible reflector vest - Always bike with the flow of traffic - Be as courteous to the automobiles as possible - When you carry stuff, don't lug it on your back. Use the rear rack - If you need to carry even more stuff, use a trailer - Get front and back lights And finally... Please be safe!

@@DanielSong39 a trailer is considered SERIOUS overkill for daily use. In the netherlands, you only really see them used for transporting kids. now, corridor might use heavy, bulky camera equipment, then it might make sense. but if you have 2 bike bags, you could fit 2 huge cases in there already, so i personally have never needed more than that capacity.

I watched this because I have recently started commuting to work on my non-electric bike and am considering getting one or converting an existing bike. However, as a S. California expate to the Pacific Northwest 23 years ago, I couldn’t get past the thought, “Man, I’m SO glad I don’t live there anymore!” That looked like a living nightmare - whether in a car or on a bike. I wish I could post a comparative video of what riding along a river looks like here, compared to the concrete “rivers” there. Also, I was surprised by the decision to not wear a helmet or any other protective gear.

I think perhaps you may well have found other ways to get to your destination if you had checked out some of the bicycle paths on google maps, I know I was surprised how many cycle paths there are in London now compared to 10 years ago. I just wonder if you checked out any advice about routs you could have taken from the cycle shop as they would probably have had many cycle paths on a map. Also it would have made more sense to go out on weekends first just for a pleasure ride to get used to exploring the area on a bike, it's a whole other world on a bike or escooter compared to driving there are often cut throughs, paths and so on that keep you off the main road and in the back streets. But if you did check all that out and found nothing then perhaps the city is doomed to be covered in pollution for a long time to come.

Here in EU I can literally live with just an electric foldable scooter because cities are designed for bikes and walking instead of cars (there are roads but the major ones are mostly built around the cities not inside the cities) and there is a superdense train / network I can freely ride with my regional ticket. Bikes and scooters are also very popular and able to avoid traffic jams.

Most cities in North America are very spread out due to urban sprawl and this is what explains the lack of cycling infrastructure. If the cities were fairly compact like they are in the Netherlands, I think it's safe to say that you would see considerably more infrastructure being dedicated to walking and cycling. Some cities in Canada are pursuing a policy of 'densification'; that is, 'growing up' instead of out to reduce or eliminate urban sprawl and preserve arable land as well as natural areas. Densification policies usually include improved cycling facilities.

Charlie Foxtrot With very little traffic, riding and walking without bike lanes and sidewalks should be fine if following European style traffic laws. This limits the investment to bigger roads and school roads. Sometimes narrow alleyways can be redefined as bicycle / pedestrian shortcuts with just a signpost or two. Really wide sidewalks are mostly done in front of shop windows where the stores want people to linger and make impulse buys. Wide bicycle lanes are mostly on really busy bicycle routes where that capacity is actually needed, they're as rare as 6 lane freeways.

Interesting video and comments on electric bike commuting in LA. We're obviously fans of electric bikes. They can definitely make riding bikes even more fun, and, if commuting by bike, can make for an easier and less sweaty ride. There are many different styles available - commuters, cruisers, fat tire, foldable, etc. Do some research and find out which is best for you!

I'm German and I totally don't understand why LA is so bicycle unfriendly, because in Germany there are Cities designed to be able to deal with many cyclists. So there are extra lanes for them so the cars won't honk.

You are so lucky. I used to live in Karlsruhe and used my bike even in the winter. It was great, I could get anywhere without much planning. Now I live in Budapest and using a bike is more difficult. There is very little infrastructure for bikes, but since many people started riding it works. Car drivers are reasonably polite.

I dont really know what to say about these titles recently. Its its purposeful and is trying to draw new viewers or its flatout clickbait. The titles arent a big problem and the content is mostly the same which is good to see.

Martineeez76 yah they go back and forth on their clickbaity-ness. At times ive actually unsubscribed because it felt too much like long ads for dumb products, and minimal behind the scenes footage. Ive come back because I enjoy there work, and it can be infuriating, but I will say they have improved and are less annoying abput it.

@FrancOhGee

kcirred htims I think that last part: "... Here's What Happened" gives off that clickbaity vibe. They do explain it in the video, and I can understand why they would title it like that. What, with all the KZfaq bs algorithm and view count determining life and death for a channel. It just doesn't sit well with me. I still love these guys and the content they put out.
@kcired23
@kcired23 6 жыл бұрын
Franco G click bait is when you title something unrelated to get more views. Reguardless of whether the title gets more views are not it's not click bait because the video is actually about what it said it's about. They didn't mislead anyone in anyway.

Martineeez76 I do kinda agree that is looks very, purposely made to drive attention, but i wouldn't say flat out clickbait, that's too much, but i wouldn't necessarily prefer these titles that i call "cliche modern youtube video" rather than their more normal and informative style of titles, my preference, but i can see many agree with me too, that the titles don't, go with the good content, i only click on them because of the cool idea the thumbnail or title is implying (since it's not straight up clickbait), and because it's a CorridorCrew video. edit: You can tell that this trait goes back on forth on and on and on, i don't say that the ads also are bad, since, 1. They have a time marker, 2. They're better for the channel, 3. I wouldn't call every product dumb unless it's absolute dumb. I just hope Cmike, sees these comments though, so they can experiment and see if it has a positive effect, also going with the new branding. Edit 2: But i do get the, "many videos are fully sponsored and about sponsored products and only about half the segment becomes about normal stuff" i can see that, and i do agree, i wish there more BTS (Behind the scenes) footage, more video development topic videos, more Wren doing cool Tech stuff, but i mean, it's good they even make videos on their downtime while making the Corridor Official videos especially if they make the content still interesting in my opinion.

Daniel B never talked about environment and/or prices. Seeing him cross the street like that made me think that maybe a motorbike would be safer, with respect to the bike. Electric just comes from his "alternative electric transportation" thing. Plus, a motorcycle would allow him to move easily/fast around the city

Even though New York City says its a bicycle friendly city. Almost 20-30 cyclist annually are getting killed due to massive traffic and how the city is constructed in recent century. But hey I am more than willing to take this route if its going to benefit my heart health. As always your content is on 🔥🔥🔥🔥
