Great results!, enough to dig mine out of its time capsule. So the door sticker date on the GT is April of 87......hmm just passed its birthday.... and the plaque date is 87 in the circle. Also with the E7 part number. Also I'm original owner. The plaque has over 200k kms and no pitting. Thanks for keeping us motivated....enjoying the videos and the history lessons that creep in them. Enjoy the ride

Just like how I did it. One tip though, find some wood screws, I used some brass ones that I had gotten with a few hinges and screw down the plates to a small piece of plywood. This will not mess up the black as the factory screws will be in here when installed. Now you do not need to hold the plate while you sand it. It will also allow you to get that long grain effect like the original. Oh yeah just use a coarser paper now that you knocked off the black, I can not remember what my final paper that I used but it was probably somewhere around 180 or coarser. Go easy at this point it will not take much to get that grain effect. That explorer turned out awesome. Those low spots may have be caused by the sandblasting.

The 5.0 plates have a "grain" pattern to them. When I restored mine I used a dry green pad after drying for several days. By using steel brush and sand paper you sanded down the grain. Looks good otherwise but others should take note about not using sand paper if you want the OEM grain appearance.

My 1993 Feature car, build date 05/93, shows 93. The 5.0 V8 , Explorer or Mountaineer 99. The lower intake has no EGR hole drilled. The early 96 Explorer Says EXPLORER V8 has 95 on the back, I got that one after the later one because I want all the EGR holes drilled to run emissions. I final sanded the 5.0 V8 with 1000 to get somewhat of a shine.

They look good Gary! Mine says PAXTON SUPERCHARGERS on my intake plate. And, I also run the smog pump delete idler pulley unit that you like and Chris talks about. The reason is the alternator sits way down low and needs something to bolt up to because the charger sits where the alternator was. That and you can for sure still run the factory size length serpentine belt. Second belt for the charger. I listen to all the podcasts and have to listen to the newest one yet. I liked the last one because I used to be a FORD technician when the ESCORT GT was a thing along with all the SVT vehicles including the SVT CONTOUR. I think those cars are the reason my daily now is a FORD PERFORMANCE FOCUS ST. I still have my 1990 GT with the PAXTON, the ST, a 2013 Mustang GT even though I am a Toyota Master Tech now. My dad is 73 and still works for Ford at the dealership where I was here in NOVA SCOTIA. He has a 2008 BULLITT. My brother has a 99 GT and a 88 5.0L LX hatch. My sister has a 2001 BULLITT and a 1987 GT. All blue blood family I would say. Cheers!

Thx buddy! That’s an awesome intake plaque you have. And Wow - what a family of cars. Your Dad sure raised you guys right 😉😂. I actually sold a 1970 GMC C1500 that I re did to a fella in Nova Scotia back in 2020. He and his Dad flew out west to buy it and the two of them drove it all the way back! He was kind enough to send me pictures of the truck at all the “welcome to _____” signs every time they crossed into a new province. I actually have a video of the truck on my channel. It sure would be funny if you ever saw it around! Any chance we’re going to see you guys at motor city fox fest? Thanks so much for all of your support too my friend!!!

Great video. I love your content. I’m in the process of refreshing mine (using your steps). I was just curious though. You mentioned that the plaques seem to carry a date code from the previous year. My car is a 90’ Canadian Cobra GT, but the plaque is date stamped 90’? It could maybe be a replacement, I guess, but mine was even rougher than the one from your vert. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve seen the build date affect the cars as well. GM cars have a “clock” cast into them that tells the date it was made, which of course is always before the manufacture of the vehicle. (They pulled the part off the shelf and used it.) I would imagine that it’s possible that on a later build car you could have the same year plaque, although I haven’t seen that yet either. I never looked before now, but the two I looked at were a year before the car was built. I can’t confirm any of the rest of my 5.0’s.
