I rode on the newest, fastest, passenger train line in the United States - the BrightLine. This is the only privately owned rail line in the United States, the only high-speed rail service in the United States, and the newest passenger train service in America.
Today’s trip starts in Orlando, and the Orlando International Airport (KMCO) where the BrightLine station is connected to Terminal C and goes all the way to their flagship terminal in Miami, Florida. The trip takes approximately three and a half hours.
I travel in both their available fare’s during this trip, Smart on the way to Miami and then in their upgraded service class, Premium, on the way up. In this video I show you the check-in process, lounges, stations, bars, and shopping options on the Brightline train in Florida, USA.

Who is Nick Henderson, and what is NickGoesFar?! Originally from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, I have been traveling the world since I was 3 years old, and have lead a fairly uncommon life ever since. Now, I'm a commercial pilot flying in the United States, a full-time nomad and traveler. NickGoesFar was originally "The Roaming Pilot", a travel blog where I would share my adventures, tips on expat life, and photography. As I leapt headfirst into content creation, film making, and wanted to be able to share with more people - a change was needed, and after a few iterations I landed here. I am incredibly grateful that years of hard work allow me to continue doing something I love, seeing the world and immersing myself in it. 😊🎥🌎

This showed up in my feed and I was watching thinking. "Oh cool another train video from a big youtuber." No you're just getting started and the quality is excellent! Great work and I look forward to your channel growing!

I really appreciate that! I've got my list of "big KZfaqrs" I follow and enjoy - and am inspired by, so perhaps I'm doing a few things right. I'm always learning and honestly, I don't know where those guys all get their energy! Seriously though, thank you. I've got some more rail trips planned going forward this year, and a lot more *not* rail trips as I travel all ways. Hope to hear from you more in the future.

the trains and stations seem very disneyesque. then again, they are appropriate as a novelty train experience for tourists visiting the state. no doubt, children will appreciate the color scheme. never having traveled to or in Asia or taking the train when in Europe, i actually expect as well as enjoy just settling in when i take the train here in the U.S. i don't really expect high speed train travel especially when taking long distance trains as opposed to short jaunts. i admit that having internet service on Amtrak long distance trains traveling along the distance of the east coast of the U.S. would be a welcome amenity.
@NickGoesFar
@NickGoesFar 4 ай бұрын
Yeah the internet option would be great, and with services like Starlink making its way onto cruise ships, trains like the BrightLine, and other modes of travel it would seem easy enough to integrate it into the existing Amtrak fleet

This is currently the second fastest train the the US. The Amtrak Acela, on the NYC to Boston leg, achieves speeds of 150mph.

I’m pretty sure I mentioned the Acela a couple times in the video
@ryancaldwell9463

And the Acela is only at top speeds somewhere between NYC and Boston. Not the entire line. Hopefully Brightline’s private dedicated tracks are also rather straight tracks and can do their top speeds for longer.

Compared to my time on the Empire Builder I would say that for the most part the trip was a straight shot, or felt like it anyways. The main exceptions being leaving Orlando and going through the Miami metroplex.

Great video, I’m in the UK and visit Orlando almost every year, but don’t fancy driving. Really considering using this service for a day trip to Miami, do you think it’s doable? Obviously an early start & a later departure from Miami to spend as much time as we can in Miami. Thinking of a Uber/Lyft from our hotel to the bright line station there and back.
@NickGoesFar
@NickGoesFar 5 ай бұрын
It's absolutely doable! They have some super early trains and some late ones. You could very easily Uber to the Orlando station and get down to Miami in time for breakfast. I've not used public transportation in Miami but apparently they have a free people mover train, otherwise Uber worked great there too. You can do it!

Is the premium train wrapped?
@NickGoesFar
@NickGoesFar 5 ай бұрын
from what I could tell it's a bit of a hit or miss thing. The one I filmed leaving the station before my train was wrapped, but the one I was on wasn't. I spoke to an attendant on my ride and she told me that the wrap is one of the main complaints BrightLine gets, and that they're going to be removing it from the windows as cars rotate through maintenance and ad/partner campaigns end.

Brightline Florida isn't High-speed rail. Top speed is 125mph on brand new track. Minimum to be considered High speed is 125+ on upgraded rail(aka the Acela). Then 155+ on brand new trackage(Shinkansen). Which makes Brightline at best considered "Higher" speed rail. Still nice train and glad to see new passenger rail in the U.S. and that people are excited about it.
@NickGoesFar
@NickGoesFar 5 ай бұрын
100% correct and I appreciate the extra info too. This is why I prefaced my comment with saying that it's the only "technically" high speed train in America (aside from the Acela). Compared of course to other passenger rail services in the United States, and not globally, in which case our market is still seriously lacking.

THIS “fastest train” takes 3 hours and 10 minutes from Miami to Orlando in a distance of 234 miles. Meanwhile the new line Barcelona-Roma takes 2. Hours and 45 minutes-in a distance of 357 miles. The “fastest train “ is just an illusion in FLORIDA
@NickGoesFar

Right, but I didn’t say it was the fastest train in the world. And last I checked neither Barcelona or Rome are in Florida…so you can’t really compare the two.

I would be incredibly pissed to take a train only to find my window seat is completely wrapped in advertisements. You guys really need to stop calling this a high speed train. 125mph for only a 40 mile segment doesn't a high speed train make.

It's too inconvenient and expensive for 1 or 2 persons. Miami to Orlando airport you can find effortless communter flights for under $100 and that with one hour flight time.Why waste 3 hours and spend over $150 on Brightline?
@NickGoesFar
@NickGoesFar 5 ай бұрын
That’s the premium cabin, I saw smart fares as low as $49 pp depending on when you take the train. I’d say better seats, no TSA and cheaper if you don’t splurge on premium would be all reasons to look at the train.
