Glad you had fun with that. I know it took a lot to put together. Appreciate it. I recently got the 1911 bug. i have a stainless pistol that will remain nameless to "Practice" on. Although I was very careful, I managed to get slight scratches on the frame. This would have been ok, BUT THEN! I notices some slight scratching on the slide. Uggghh. I gotta be more careful. These were minor. I thought about Flitz. No Flits in the house. Hmmm after searchng in the dark recesses under the kitchen sink. Wrights copper and Silver polish. Ta Da! After field strip took a soft cloth with a bit of water and went to work The silver polish worked the best. I guess copper polish has a lighter abrasive quality. There now the balance of the universe is restored. No Dremel's were harmed in the process. Fantastic detail strip and reassemble. 👍

I do not comment on KZfaq often. This might be my second or third time in 15 years. I fixed my first idiot scratch (which was way less intense than yours) with a little sandpaper. I felt compelled to comment on this only because I've never laughed so much at a gun video. "I opted to break protocol and follow the instructions." - Yep "I've got the only Dan Wesson worth being ashamed of." - Nope. You figured it out and helped those in your shoes. Kuddos. Dude. "That Harbor Fright smell?" I thought it was too much cheap plastic in one room. I thought I was alone... but seriously, "What's that smell?" Thanks for making me feel I am not alone. "Watch out for this plunger spring, it specifically engineered to fly off .... BLEEP!" This video is informative, authentic, and hilarious. I wish more videos were for those us who enjoy firearms, but admitted our mistakes and could learn from each other. Too many gun videos and forums are nerds trying to prove they know more than the last poster. So.. the second reason I decided to post: My grandfather is buried in the old church yard at West Point which is reserved for the best of our best since 1776 (my gramps is a legend at WP), and my father and both of his brothers are a retired Major, LTC, and a Full Bird. They are not as condescending as the internet nerds who belittle other gun owners who have never seen combat and argue over tolerances. They like they're duty guns because they went bang when they needed them to. They've had bullets bounce off their helmets, tanks and body armor. The only debate we have in my family is A1 vs M9. Remember that these two pistols represent 120 years of American ascendancy. Both of my grandfathers died from AO effects too young. Horrible deaths. Their service caught up to them in different ways, but both died because of their service. For that reason and because my Poppie insisted I learn on a 1911, it has always been my gun. 45 ACP is God's caliber and even though I am not religious, it is mine as well. InMem RIP MAJ (F. Clefstad) Rip CLN (G. Richardson)

Awesome 1911 take down video, with a bonus sand blasting repair on the side.

It is completely insane how you were able to repair that scratch. I would have just cried and contemplated suicide. Congrats on a successful job. The alternative is to send it back to the factory, wait a month, and spend $200.00 plus shipping.

The bead blasting was good but that was the best breakdown and reassemble video on a 1911 that I’ve seen on the Tube!

Ever do something so ... Stupid that you had to make a video about it and put it on the internet? I mean... Chicken or egg? Most of my videos are of stupid human tricks. Do I film them to show stupid or am I stupid for filming? Probably both. I fondly remember the first time my dad taught me to break down the 1911 he gave me. I wasn't sure why he was smiling so hard as I rotated the keeper, until it let loose and he started howling w laughter. Makes me smile every time I clean it.
