Hey bud pro tip for wet sanding on that hood. Pop the hood open, take a plastic drop cloth and set inside the engine bay, close the hood and you wont have any clean up to worry about. Great job btw

@@truth1267 you're right, I don't paint. However, I saw a factory paint flaking. I also know that even perfect paint is getting damaged over time. Just saying, that nothing is permanent. To me it looks like swapping vinyl is much cheaper and easier option. I can even do it myself. And it looks great.

another tip ck... your fingers and heel of your hand can create uneven 'grooves' a paint stirring stick cut to 3 inches wrapped with the sand paper make a good 'block' .. keep the block flat.. then even strokes and keep adding water.. you still got a good attitude lol id be dropping some cuss words for sure lol

I can’t believe you took blame for the fault of someone else’s faulty paint job. You were in a tough spot with this customer. Hope they were grateful for your generosity. On the wet sanding, if you don’t have a sanding block just wrap the sandpaper around a block of some kind and wet sand in X pattern. Your fingers will cause uneven pressure if you just use your hand. Good job though.

Hey man definitely use a block...makes eating those edges a bit quicker. Hand works but it’s not a very firm surface to work with more even. Nice of you to take care of someone else’s flop.

Gary Voyle yeah in really its a challenge you make one wron cut whole job is Done , or in my case interior trim at the wents it didn’t stick but i leave it like that😂 it took 2 hours

Best thing to remember is to go slow and think it out before you start heating and stretching. 3D pulling and laying into recesses are best practices to avoiding disastrous relief cuts, overlapping, bunching, overstretching etc. etc. Christian keeps a cool head and doesn't let the vinyl worry him because he knows what it's going to do as he gets to edges and tight spots. Foresight and vinyl troubleshooting knowledge saves you a lot of time and cost in this business.

Very good Bro... have experienced the same thing, but even though the material I use is another brand, which is not specifically for Wrap (ORXXXX) the results can also be good. Note: I also do it by myself (in semi wet system)

Flexible sanding board would have made this much easier to find highs and lows, and get it smooth. Probably way less effort also. BUT you are the wrap god, so it will look good no matter what!!

those imperfections in the paint are what are known as fish eye caused by silicone droplets in the air which means the surface was not cleaned or prepped properly before paint was applied, another reason for the paint flaking. Actually looks like it was sprayed in the back yard with a spray can lol

Didn't try Hexis myself but between 3M and Avery, definitely Avery is the forgiving one! In fact, stay away from 3M wraps. Their complementary stuff is essential though, like their edge sealers.

The guy that wrapped my car ran into the same issue on my mustang when he wrapped it. The shop that painted my car had three tries in color matching a factory color but they still couldnt get it right. When he wrapped it, it lifted part of the paint as well.

26:44 I can see a face to the right of the vary center of the hood. Its the small cluster of darker gray color that separates it from the mostly light gray color( primer Im guessing. try looking for it.

How well does the wrap stick to the sanded down hood? I have to do some body work to my car before I wrap it. Just wondering If I should spray on some clear coat for better adhesion?

if you wet sand with 400, wrap will stick pretty well actually. 600 would be better just because of how smooth it comes out

Your customer did you a dis-service by not telling you how fresh the paint was. Those specs on the paint are dust in the clear coat, the paint could have used a wet sand, cut and polish plus at least 30 days to cure before the vinyl went on. One of the reasons why the paint didn't stick was because of poor adhesion, the second reason was because it was not able to flash off because the vinyl was suffocating it.

The paint is over 1 year old. It doesn't need more time than that to out gas.

Please don't wet sand with a bare hand. In 98% of the situation you need to use a sanding block. Even with high grit you can leave the surface wavy. Other than that I really enjoy your vidoes and I have learned a lot. So much that I will never attempt to wrap my own vehicle.

I totally disagree. If you use a straight block on a curved panel it's going to make the hood look distorted. If you have a curved or sponge block maybe. BUT by hand or D/A with an interface pad is always going to be best

@@conceptdesigns4100💯%. i am very experienced painter/panel beater. You are dead right. I was taught to flat EVERYTHING wet by hand for the first year of my training. Technique is key. I use quarter sheets of folded wet'n'dry. Hold against panel with middle three fingers and tucked (held by) thumb and little finger. Keep middle 3 fingers flat as possible and use only sideways strokes with plenty of slightly soapy water. Dont use fingertips, or rub in the direction your fingers point. Da with interface for speed. Never used a firm block on a curved panel👌

Hey mate love your work. Using your video's to learn as much as possible before i wrap my rd1 crv here in New Zealand. Starting the wrap this weekend will be uploading how that goes 😂 will give your channel a mention. I know very little about paint and this isn't a dig at you.. more of a question, is there a minimum amount of time you should wait before wrapping over say a freshly painted panel that has a small dent repair. Could the hood have been wrapped to soon? Does the paint need to cure / breathe for weeks before essentially sealing it with wrap. Also a question relating to what im about to do.. im going to fix very small dents on my crv before wrap, as far as i can tell im ok to wrap over filler is that true? Your right we run a full bake cycle on every car threw the booth and we tell customs to wait 2 months

Yes, the paint needs to completely out gas before wrapping but this particular paint job is more the 1 year old which is more than enough time for it to fully cure. Cure time can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months or so from what I've been told

When stretching the wrap start at your hands then work your way to the middle with your heat. If you start heating where the wrinkles are you are taking more stretch from the middle of the panel, take the stretch from the edges

If the paint is weak like if the car is 10-15 year old and the paint is already dead. Any wrap will ruin the paint.. but if you use cheap chinese vinyl on a brand new car it is gona ruin the paint.

hi, you have to let make a standard for your heat gun, on wheels that makes working much easier. You do not always have to take the heat gun from the floor. Regards, Edwin Bloem, Holland

you need paint to settle and give it a chance to shrink so it would take 2 weeks to a month so that the paint doesnt tear off when you peel the wrap off

Im not a pro painter by any means, but I am an informed amateur. Never sand by hand, use a block, your hand isnt flat and will leave waves in the finish. There not extremely noticeable, but if you look you can find them. Also before you guys hang the person that painted it, There are a lot of factors to what could of caused this. My guess is this was a recent respray and paint needs around 6 months to fully cure and harden and if you cover it before that it can really screw it up, even just using wax is a bad idea to early. Not saying this was a great repair or anything, but no way to tell with out knowing the circumstances, but putting a big sticker on not fully cured paint is gonna damage it badly. Also never cover the bare metal without putting some metal etching primer on first or it will rust underneath

Matthew Hannon he has commented on other comments that this paint was done 1 year prior to him wrapping it. That was my first thought as well and it sucks he had to redo his work because of things he couldn’t control.

It won't rust, the the hood wasn't sanded down to the bare metal and the film is also air and water tight.

Like I said, there's no bare metal under the film. The rock would need to penetrate the film and also what paint is there. If the rock hits anything that hard then it will do more than just open up a wound for potential rust

Dang. That would upset me to no end. Why wouldn't the owner of this car take the hood in for body work and proper paint before he wraps it? It's like scratching on a chalk board. The lesson here is never buy a car with wrapping on it. You don't know what's underneath.

Why the clickbait title 😂 "I RUINED" uh nope that was the body shop. And definitely get a block, they're $2 and prevents grooves from finger sanding. Rubbing compound would've easily got the hood specs off but -not paid to do it- yet it was probably a $3000 plus car wrap

Justin Tran many vinyl companies actually warn against cleaning the vinyl with alcohol as it dries out the gloss lamination layer and reduced the overall longevity of the wrap. Can’t lie though I do love how easy it is to clean it with alcohol but I try to avoid it when I can .
