Surprised I didn’t get a “mad”, but I think she was about to pull that trigger if I didn’t move fast enough 😹

I work as a zoo relief veterinarian (think travel nurse, but for veterinarians) which means I travel for extended periods. Billi is a great little traveler, and is very comfortable in the car and new places! Dad will pop in to visit as he can, but we won’t be back home for a bit.

Billi is a female domestic shorthair, she's 15 years old, her favorite word is mad.

@@douglasharley2440 Tell him to check out the study Billi's participating in! Unfortunately that won't always convince someone, especially if they've never read a research paper & aren't familiar with how you assess the validity of the conclusions it comes to, or they don't respect science full stop & think scientists just make things up. Maybe he _would_ totally get it though, & come to appreciate what Billi & Kendra have achieved.

@@beth7935 oh, i have...he has a phd, and is well-aware of the proper procedures of scientific research. unfortunately, he *refuses* to see, because that will force him to reconsider his craven lust for animal flesh. he thinks that it's fine to eat animals because they are "lower creatures" and will not entertain anything that might dissuade him. "you can lead a horse to water..." and all dat. 😒 peace

@@douglasharley2440 I mean, acknowledging an animal's intelligence doesnt mean you *must* go vegan I just think if you must kill an animal, it should have a good life beforehand and you should use as much of the body as possible. (And yes, some of us cant become vegan. Its expensive in some places, some people cant process plants well, dietary requirements, etc.)

Yep. We know it'll happen; it's just a matter of time. And it would be hilariously appropriate if they managed it using a tool WE foolishly gave them, cos step 1 of the plan was such a great success: making us worship them so much that we WANT them to tell us exactly what they want, so we can provide it. 🤦‍♀😂 We just need more training in providing it "now", not "later", & Billi is doing her bit.

I think time just passes so slowly for cats like it does for little kids. Whenever I tell my cat Casey to wait a few minutes for his breakfast, he'll sometimes huff, run out of my room, and then come back 30 seconds later like "Okay, I waited!"

Billi is not just learning the English language, she is learning how humans often communicate (multiple pressing of buttons instead of 1 press and then waiting). I said now danggit! Seriously though, she learned to use her words to comunicate what she wants/needs (fan toy in this case). Then the "hmm?" question mark when she didn't get it right away. Then the "now" to say she didn't want to wait, she wanted it now. Pressing "now" again shows she learned from you saying "later" etc often. Followed by asking for dad, like a negotiation of some sorts. "Okay you didn't give me what I wanted right away, maybe dad will" It's exactly like human children learn language and behavioral patterns

That "Hmm?" was her graciously giving you a second chance to give her the correct answer. You didn't oblige, so she had to spell it out for you. Repeatedly. And either remind you that Dad would have hopped to it a lot faster--or maybe threaten to tell Dad on you. That was open for a bit of interpretation.

I'm seeing more and more complex communication from her. And not in slow advancement, but in pretty rapid growth. Like she's getting the hang of English and being better able to communicate concepts with it. Exemplified here by her use of Hmm?, questioning the validity of the delay.

"Now" is a place very close to "Soon", it has a popular attraction. It lies on the way there and promises immediate satisfaction. Somehow though Now's pleasure tends to fade away to soon. And Soon's has a longer lasting reaction.
