I saved at least $4000 on a L2501 by going out of state. No sales tax and a 16 foot trailer included =$4000. I say at least because they also gave me a deal on rear remote,snowblower and box blade. I spoke with my local dealer in NY and he didn't want to give a inch so I went elsewhere.

Neil -- I'm frequently amazed by how people think. On a woodworking forum, someone recently asked for buying advice on a particular size of a type of machine. Some recommended a premium machine from an American manufacterer. Others suggested a mid-range machine that's made in Taiwan. And still others, recommended a hobbiest grade machine that's made in China. Then, someone chimed in with the 'fact' the preimum machine didn't do anything that the hobbiest grade machine couldn't do. Therefore, the premium machine was vastly over priced. He wanted to support American workers, but he wasn't willing to pay more for a machine than it was worth. Value, to him, was measured by the machine's capacity. He wanted to buy the American machine, but not if it cost more than Chinese machine that had the same capacity. In rebuttal, it was pointed out that a Porsche 911 costs a lot more than does a Ford Fusion. Yet, the 911 carries fewer people and gets worse gas mileage. Obviously, capacity is one of the factors that determines a machine's value, but it's not the only factor. Often, it's not the most important factor. In the case of woodworking machines, this guy only considered capacity. I think that was because it was all he understood. The quality of the tool, its ease of use, extra safety features, were all irrelevant to him because he didn't know how to evaluate them. He looked at what he could understand -- so a table saw with a 10" blade shouldn't cost more than another table saw with the same sized blade. Makes as much sense as saying all 40 hp tractors should cost the same.

Great video Neil. I see this all the time as well. I like to sum it up as "you get what you pay for". $14,000 less typically means you're making some pretty significant sacrifices and should set off some warning flags signaling a deeper review is needed. It's likely the customer is not making an apple to apples comparison. Either choice could be good for them, but only once they understand the differences. 👍

I saved about $10,000 on a L4701 a couple of years ago. I bought a used one w/ only about 7 hr. My dealer is one of the largest John Deere dealers in the country for lawn tractors. Every couple of years JD will purchase a few new Kubota tractors from them for training their dealers. After the demo with the dealers JD sells the Kubotas back to my dealer as a used tractor, and I bought one of them. So there are some real ways to save big on new tractors.

Service Dept. location is also of critical importance. Unless you own the rollback or trailer capable of transporting the tractor yourself, it can cost serious dollars for either mobile dealer service or dealer pick-up and delivery at any distance. Often it can be both as a service call puts the tech on site to condemn the machine to transport to the shop. Especially on engine issues - not so much so on tranny and other drive-line issues. sdh in CT

I saved over $40,000 I was looking for a 50-60 hp tractor to run a silo blower and run a small mixer grinder. Kubota was between 45-50 thousand for the horsepower we were looking for John Deere was 50-60 for what we needed. We never looked at Mahindra cause we have a sub compact Mahindra and we hate its quality. We ended up buying a 1466 International with 3000 hrs for $6800 from our neighbor who is retiring, we got 3 times the tractor for less than a quarter of the price of the new plastic and wire toys.

Seems to me the numbers fall apart on the low volume brands though, you can get more features, a supossedly better warranty, and supposedly better specifications on most things for 25 to 30% less than the name brands. The question is can you get parts, is it reliable, and is there a dealer to support it around. So you may pay the difference anyway over time.

This may answer your question. My friend blew his third loader cylinder in a year. They told him he would have it back in a month. He asked why and it turns out that they had the cylinder but the hoses (which he installed later on his own) had to be made up and shipped out of Asia.

@@MessicksEquip That wasn't the experience I had 6 or 7 years back. I went TYM because they were at least 10K less than Kubota and JD dealers were quoting me, and the loader lifted more, two remotes were included, the skid steer coupler was included (they weren't all std then), the better 3pt links, and R4 tires. I think most other things were similar. I just couldn't justify the extra cost of the brand names at 2/3 the cost. Not sure where TYM falls in your ranking.
@court2379
@court2379 3 жыл бұрын
@@roflstomps324 That seems odd to me as loader cylinders are pretty simple devices and the only reason new seals should blow is if the clearances were wrong or the cylinder has a bad finish (the seal/backup rings could be bad too, but I doubt the tractor manufacturer made it). The seal manufacturers list those clearances, so it would be easy to measure the parts once apart. The metric fittings while not as common should also be available, at least online. Sounds like an dealer not taking care, but I think that is more often the case with the less common brands. They could probably source them quickly at thier cost, but wanted to force the OEM to pay for it. That also make me wonder if the pressure relief was set too high, or it could be the situation they demonstrated in another video where using the loader in certain way causes the pressure to spike really high.
@roflstomps324
@roflstomps324 3 жыл бұрын
@@court2379 I can't say for sure but I have told him time and again that the way he back drags is just straight abuse to the cylinders. He lowers the bucket all the way down to where the tractor is doing a really good wheelie. He then curls the bucket all the way under, which makes it lean back even more and slams it in reverse. You can actually see the bucket flex when he does this. But, he is one of those guys who knows everything even though this is his first tractor. The dealer he bought it from, has had him back there half a dozen times, has told him not to set foot on the lot. They too said that the only way this could be happening is from abuse. I should note that he has blown a hose and a cylinder on his backhoe on separate occasions. You might be right about the pressure but I think he is 90% of the issue. I haven't an issue with my Kubota and I am rough as all hell with it but I am rough with it to it's strengths.

Yes they are.. you will see lots for sale because they own a huge market share.. they have the number one selling diesel engine under 100hp.. they supply diesels to other manufactures for their equipment.. since they sell so many tractors there will be a large number of used ones for sale as well.. right now with the shortages and people changing tractors for many reasons and the resale always being high no matter the market now is the time people will opt for something new or different for whatever their personal reason is.

The real Truth is all this "electronic power shift transmission" and electronic this and that, really ads no value to the tractor in the used market. In most cases the non-electronic counterparts are actually more expensive to produce. Think about how much more some of this electronic crap costs. Yeah.......... it takes a lot of computing power to shift a transmission. (im kidding). A timex watch could do it. The real truth is the manufactures make more money and its much.... much cheaper to produce. A cable, a shift lever, hooked to a series of valves will take decades to fail. A switch hooked to a computer that tells a relay to activate an electronic solenoid, will fail within a decade and be hard to diagnose. There is a reason tractors from the 80s and 90s are bringing top dollar.
