Friend of mine had an 827 coupe sterling with the 2,7 Honda lump. Nice old car, he converted it to run on LPG as he did starship mileage and it ran up to about 220,000 miles when the auto box crapped itself. The LPG system was taken off and the car scrapped.

Clean it to within an inch of its life and get it on a lift and look at it underneath. That is probably a really good base project but you need a plan of action with it.

That's the instrument dimmer and it's real burr walnut veneer on aluminium bases. The gutters around the boot are rotten, you'll need to fix them. Add 0.5L of Carlube ATF-U to the engine oil, it will sort those hydraulic tappets. The front wings are Coupe ONLY, rear brakes need a specific method to replace the pads or the calipers WILL sieze! Sills were, maybe still are available through the 800 club, the bonnet is standard Mk2 800 and if you wawnt to change it for a Mk1 bonet you'll also need Mk1 headlights to fit the grille. Sounds like your clutch slave is dead, common problem! Good luck with it, having owned an 827 Coupe for 5 years, i can see you'll need it!

They were a lovely drive - not too many cars were as comfy - the Peugeot 406 gave it a run for its money. Reliability of the 2 were similar (i.E a bit crap..) but I like both cars just for their sheer comfort. The sills on these are an absolute doddle to rebuild - the shape is so simple, as are the jacking points - neither would bother me a bit.

Why? The P6 is a fantastic car. The SD1 part of U.K. history. This unloved Sporn of the Honda love affair, not so much. I’d love to see you get a P6, dip the shell and build a perfect car, no rot or compromise on repair quality, something you could be proud of.

@@AllSortsOfStuff58 Actually I do quite high mileage and I'm no slouch. However, I do maintain all my cars myself and all the work is done properly. My current Rover 45 with a K series was diagnosed with a head gasket problem by my local garage in 2020. However, I didn't think it was, and after I removed the head I found it was actually a leaking valve. So how many other Rovers have been diagnosed with head gasket problems when they are not ?

@@johnbrereton5229 I ran seven 820SI s as chauffeur cars in the 80s. All of them did 2 - 300,000 miles, all were driven appropriately(corporate clients don't like racing drivers), and all blew their head gaskets at some point. All were diagnosed correctly by my workshop and fixed without any serious damage done, but they were know for it throughout the trade. I believe the smaller/later models were different story. I once had a 416SI as a runabout and loved it...

Always wanted one of these. Had a sterling coupe that had seen better days and always wanted one with a turbo’d t-series under the bonnet. Is that a vitesse lux with the sterling interior because they’re definitely not Recaro’ seats. Should have air con though unless its been removed because that’s the auto climate control gubbins also like the sterling. I doubt there’s any body parts shared with the tomcat though 😊
