I’m under no illusion that no body would agree, personally I would take the lump out of the car, get a full top and bottom rebuild, junk the EFI and put twin SU’s on it. Replace the loom with a new one, before launching more cash at tidying it up. From a cynical old man who arrives at my opinions based on experience 😃😃😃😃😃

The two " fuses " are actually festoon bulbs
@MercmadКүн бұрын
The Oil gauge going to full reading means something is not earthed properly and is earthing through the gauge. . I'd say the cluster earth connection is either disconnected or dirty.
@richardhaywoodhКүн бұрын
Those are festoon bulbs holders for lighting not fuses behind the elec window switches & air con control cover

Rover used genuine Connolly leather for the seats from the factory for P6 and P5 models. Surprisingly even Toyota did for the original RAV4 upto year 2000 !
@DoubleDsinthedrivingseatКүн бұрын
More than worrying about the sun ruining the seats you should be worrying about all the tat your potentially damaging the back seat with. Stop using this beautiful car as a shed! Get it all out, feed the leather and cover it with soft blankets until you have a more permanent solution sorted out. Great to see some progress with the car 👍

Hi Sheldon. Have you checked you've got the correct ECU for the engine, or even any ECU at all ? I've not heard you mention it as a possible non start/run cause, and they're easily spiked by any electrical shorts or wrong wiring. It should be a flat box about 5x5x1 inches, with a large multi pin plug. See if you can find it. On the 4x4's, they're usually in the cabin/ under the drivers seat area, so it could be on a long cable on the engine loom, mounted well away from the P6 engine bay. There are a few ECU variants, depending on the year and type of injection system. The engine will fire up with fuel poured in, but nothing on the engine will work properly if it's ECU is faulty or missing. The EFi fuel pump is similar to a carburettor SD1, but bigger/ more pressure, and needs a regulated flow. They need to be completely submerged in fuel at all times, or they will run hot, and then the rubber vane pump sticks. They'll only pump fuel when correctly polarity connected. You can easily free a sticking one by running WD40 through as you power it both ways on a 12V battery a few times.

Shouldn’t it be LHD if it was sold in the US?
@vwcocoКүн бұрын
Happy days !! Never messed with firm injection but if the car had fuel injection from factory then really it’s got to stay. Hopefully you can get everything working for it to run off the pump 👍

When you replace fuses and bulbs, use a small amount of dielectric grease.
@lordleonusaКүн бұрын
You will have to remove that ignition key assembly and remove the back of the broken switch, it's easier than you might think, it should be held in by one, or two tiny machine screws, which are accessible from the sides

David is a real hero, wiring can be such a PITA. When I do wiring, I have the same look on my face as Dave!

If the EFI on that is anything like the Bosch Jetronic of the era that got fitted to VW, Porsche, Saab, and Volvo cars - it's unreliable and will continue to give you grief after every time you get it running.
@classic_britainКүн бұрын
This system is very reliable but it's just so messy it's not worth it
@MercmadКүн бұрын
I work on Djet all the time and it's really reliable , considering some of the systems I touch are 50+ years old . Theres a very good site for Djet owners where all of the info ever needed can be found.

I have a 1970 NADA Spec P6 3500. The under bonnet light is factory. The braking system shares many parts with a USA spec Jag XKE. he dual system Master and slave cylinder are the same as well as the power brake vacuum booster. Moss Motors here in the USA has all of these parts. I put the ZF trans into my as as well. It made a huge difference. I have a 4 liter in mine with a 4 choke Holly carburetor. The air conditioning is wonderful here in California in the summer. Lots of video about my car on my channel EJH British Cars.
