I would imagine the atmospheric pressure is just what it says, the pressure of the atmosphere on that day. If you had a depression nearby, it could easily be 991 and would only change as the weather does. Well done for sorting it for your mum.

I agree with that! It says exactly what it does on the tin so to speak. It's the atmospheric pressure at that time at that location. It obviously compares something coming from the car as opposed to the outside atmosphere.

Yes, the ecu uses atmospheric pressure as a reference for all the pressure sensors and the correction factor for turbo boost pressure.

We had an old Brown Renault 5 on our farm and it lived for years and years and would not die. We put livestock in it, lambs and calf’s mainly. Hay bales, animal feed, vets, herdsman and so on. In the end we drove it off a ledge into an empty gravel pit, 30ft drop. When we got to it the engine was still running and it still drove (sort of). We left it in the pit and it has now lived in a 30ft watery grave for 35 years. Hell of a car and it still brings a smile to my face when I think of the scrapes we got into in it.

Hello - love your vids. I had similar issue with my wifes Mercedes C250cdi. Limp mode, check engine light on. Although I am pretty handy with the spanners, all my experience is petrol cars and I have always heard DPF issues are a nightmare so I was pretty annoyed to see when I plugged in my little OBD reader and got DPF codes. If this happens to others stop right there. Don't go any further until you plug in a decent scanner. Luckily I have an Autel 906pro. This revealed in fact that the code the little OBD reader gave me was correct BUT in fact it was two codes with the same 4 digit number but a 5th number giving more specific information. This pointed to a pressure sensor. On the Merc it is a differential pressure sensor so it has 1 electrical connector but two pipe unions - pre and post DPF to compare the pressure and establish when to re-gen. This was knackered. Changed that and like you was miffed that it was still in limp mode despite a few Italian tune-up's down the local Autovia. Then I came across "Adaptations" on the Autel. Went through that procedure - it learns the new values - and bobs your uncle, sorted. The good thing is that the 906Pro is accessible to most people - Snap-On brilliant but a huge amount of money. For a grand you can get a used 906 or 1500 new one. Its saved me thousands over the years. Greetings from Spain!

DPF probably didn't need to be removed from the car. All it needed was to fix the underlying fault that was causing the car to not regen the DPF. Which in this case was a replacement sensor plus telling the car the DPF plus sensors had been replaced / re-initialising them. And then maybe a clean with Launch DPF cleaning fluid with the DPF in the car. Oreilley's youtube channel has loads of useful DPF videos. It seems that there are loads of mechanics that are hopeless with DPF's. But they are actually quite straight-forward, once you understand how they are part of a system in the car.

The pressure line from the dpf to the differential pressure sensor is the go to source of problems with a clogged dpf. The dpf itself may not be blocked at all but because the pressure line is blocked the ecu thinks the dpf is blocked. Of course the dpf may be clogged, but with a correctly reading dpf diff sensor the ecu may then allow a regen. You can clean dpf's yourself, just blow it out with a pressure washer and dpf cleaner. Little tip for moderately driven modern turbo diesels, use a fuel additive regularly and every 6k miles or so, use a high intensity diesel cleaner. I use Mannol ester fuel treatment on every other tank of fuel, it's 1ML per ltr of fuel, so very cost effective, and JLM extreme clean for the every 6k mile treatment, that is quite expensive at almost £40 for a ltr can, but worth it to keep carbon at bay. Also, it would be worth checking and cleaning the egr valve, it's very likely that will be well clogged to.

Can't fault the choice of car - I've got a 2005 Grand Scenic that I bought as a very cheap runabout in 2018, before the electric handbrake failed, the MoT expired and I left it standing on my driveway. It was so nice I wanted to put it back on the road, which I did in 2020. Since then, in total I've spent £2,086 on parts (repairs, servicing and cosmetic improvements), and done all the work myself. I've thoroughly enjoyed doing it and learned quite a bit about working on modern-ish cars in the process.

Renault are evil when it comes to repairs, they have always tried their hardest to make home repairs as awkward as possible. My first job was in a motor factors and Renault's and their oval plate numbers were a nightmare, two Renault 5's built on the same day of the same trim could have lots of differences such as one might have Bendix calipers but the other might have girling and one might have a Bosch distributor while the other might have a Lucas style. Of course I still bought a 21 Turbo years later which was a fantastic car apart from it's very militant french electrics.

That's what its about saving money, my dad took his defender over to where he normally takes it, and they wanted to charge him 1200 quid to do a list of jobs, one was 200 quid to toss a bottle of injector cleaner through it, and a £1000 for a steering box, We were like where you getting those wages from?? The steering box only came to about 400 quid, he was putting £400 on top that, then £200 for labour. We took it else where and they moted it, They said nothing wrong with the emission smoke side of it at all, and the steering box was an advisory. I got in touch with a company who revamps steering boxes, and got his done for £200 quid. From the £1200 that the garage wanted to charge my dad, He managed to do the job for £400, and that was adding new pipes and PAS pump, So well under what the garage was quoting and wouldn't have done. Also my dad threw £300 at it for a new rad and fancy pipes. So it was all in for £800, £100 for the two MOTs.

Looks like that the exhaust back pressure hose is blocked(pressure upstream of turbine). It’s a thin metal tube that is connects to the exhaust manifold which then connects to a sensor to read the back pressure of the exhaust gases. It monitors the pressure before the diesel particulate filter to identify the difference in pressure caused by a build up of soot in the DPF filter. It’s also does another stuff which involves improving the response time of the turbocharger. You also had codes for low boots pressure this might be the reason why. This is a different sensor from the DPF pressure sensor. They work together to Tell the ECU with do to a DPF regeneration. Going off the live data results the pressure should match the engine rpms when you rev the engine. If this is not sorted then your DPF will block up again. Your DPF can be cleaned with out taking it off. It will save your a lot of time. Have a look at the Launch Uk DPF cleaning website.

If a filter is shown to be 100% blocked you are prompted to replace the filter on it. So press the button that says you have replaced the filter. Then clear adaptions which adjust the system as it ages. Then clear codes and a big run to clear the system. The problem would be if you said new filter fitted and reset everything and the filter was still blocked the back pressure and heat could damage things. Clean filter, advice new filter fitted, clear adaptions, give it a run. Watching live data is a good thing shows sensors are working. Differential pressure sensor is a key component, it and it’s pipes need to be clear and operational. Launch UK do some juice you can put in the diesel to help town driving that might help your mum going forward!

It measures the pressure difference between the before and after DPF - the higher the difference the more clogged- this is the problem with DPF, most times they clog because of a fault - often those pipes split from heat as you say. Sometimes the code will clear after 5 drive cycles. but I've seen where you can only reset as the last part of a regen with clip

Revving the bollocks off a 2L turbo diesel won't have much effect on the atmosphreic pressure reading, cos that's the air all around us being squished by the forces of gravity pulling it down against the earth, so the car's sensors take that reading, plus the resdings from the other pressure sensors for the turbo gubbins, it does mathemagics and stuff to squirt the right volume of fuel to air ratios, and then allegedly makes the car go, also 2L diesels aren't good for pottering about, they're motorway mile-munchers, gotta get them all hot and bothered so they don't make their own supply of coal... :P

It dissolves the soot. The differential pressure sensor measures the blockage across the filter. Watch O’Rileys Autos he is in the know.

The reason this happens to so many DPF systems is that the vehicle needs to be driven on the highway regularly. Trucks fitted with a DPF come with a manual reset(clearing mode) in case you have to idle lots, or drive in traffic(more clogging). This is a domestic diesel problem as this feature is not implemented on most smaller diesels with a DPF. If your mum wants to not have this problem again she needs to drive on the motorway more or purchase a something that doesn't have a DPF. Even if she had purchased a brand new DPF it would have happened again eventually.

Older dervs was basic even with a turbo/s which give you more HP (thinking MK1/2 golfs) with the additional more cleaner burning out of the exhaust pipe. Ice cars today are over loaded with tech etc I could go on - so meaning the modern car will @10 years off the road or be a parts car from repair costs! Their perfectly usable cars being sold for scrap/breaking every week why? Repair costs !!! The manufactures what it this way..... for you to buy more cars = more profits for them 😒😵 Keeping older cars on the road, is becoming normal in last 2-4 years why? the cost of new cars!!! Great stuff , I like how your video and effort shows the people as to how they themselves are so easily extorted out of their cash. I bet the dealerships wouldn't advise a driver to have the unit pressure blown clean. No their Job is extortion much better off with the Classics that what we know to be real cars for real motoring . Not a half ton of plastic and 50 uneccessary sensors BTW when the Driver themselves had a pop at getting the vehicle ready for its MOT with the Haynes Manuals..

Other option is to remove the cat/dpf nock all the insides out put it back on the car and have it mapped out at the cost of around £150, this also reduces the back pressure the turbo is facing and makes the car more drivable. Of course it's illegal to do it but speeding is to and everyone does that.

I have a transit custom that I bought brand new. 18 months later it needed a new engine under warranty. It’s done 60k and has been main dealer serviced every year. A month or so ago I got a DPF fault. Crazy money for a new one. I bought some DPF cleaner off Amazon. Ran that along with some injection cleaner. Cleared it. Fingers crossed.

The injection warning comes on for the glow plugs normally. I hate anything French and refuse to work on them. Also you can get dof ckean fluid you fill it through the temp sensor hole and leave it a while then rev her up, this has saved every dpf I've used it on. Also if you fancy a drive with a trailer to the south coast I have the original rover promo 75 estate been sat at my yard for years you can have for free if you try rescue it. My health means its been left along with some other gems.

My parents had Renaults when I was young. Both Renault 17s, first one a TL and the 2nd a Gordini which was advertised with Bosch fuel injectors and Ziebart rustproofing which obviously didn’t work as you don’t see any on the road anymore 😂

Hi, great upload! What happened with manufacturing 70ties onwards, cars are the early adopters, is that products are made to generate revenue, to last but with considerable cost. Front springs will snap roughly every 4 years, each MOT has to bring in between 4 to 600 pounds no matter what. Parts prices increase 25 to 100% each handling step, excl import duties.... I do classic & prewar, the rest, exceptions excluded, are just cannon fodder to be remelted. I will not start on EVs..... Great channel!

The cars now not detecting a problem you havnt re set and re calibrated the new sensor youve put on go in to function test on your scanner and see if theres a re calibration for dpf and differential pressure sensor then cycle ignition back on and re clear codes again. If else fails spoofing a regen upon reseting the diferential pressure sensor and dpf values back to zero can also sometomes do the trick, find a mechanic with a snap on scanner like an ethos edge or a triton if yours cant support the function. Make sure its up to temprature and adhere to the regen guidlines

I have a Renault grand scenic 1.6 DCI 2012 it had been maintained prior to purchasing ( smart vehicle app) so I only need to keep up with the maintenance. It's an amazing car and everything works. It handles well, I had Michelin tyres all round and with the help of the on board computer , it handles well. It's comfortable and well equipped. I believe I can do at least what it says on the mpg figures. God bless you and keep you in Jesus Mighty Holy Name

That's a grim way combining the dpf and cat so you can't smash it out and remap it to run without it,well done Renault!
