What an event! The garage at my friend's house went up in flames (nobody was seriously injured) and he thought we should see what we could make from scrap metal! We showed up with truck and trailer to haul off what we could from the remains of his many tools and supplies and hopefully we can help him recover at least a little value from recycling what we can from the wreckage. True scrap metal application right here!
Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3sirg18
The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
The grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl
The melting furnace: amzn.to/3EGxT2q
(If you make a purchase on amazon through the links above, a small amount of what amazon makes on the sale is shared with me. It's a great way to help support my channel, at no additional cost to you. Even if you buy something other than my tool recommendations!)

Ever thought of doing a biography of Thub episode? It would be cool to get your life story, how you got into canning/scrapping and the backstory of Thub and Wub.

I know that you took time out of your day for this, but you are so right to do what you can to help your friend. To restore a few items even if they won't work like they use to, but it still is saved memories. Stay safe my friend and see you on the next video. Maybe keep us updated on the restoration projects for your friend.

The old fire extinguisher…. About 40 years ago my dad had one he found (he was a volunteer fire chief) and we restored it and turned it into a table lamp …. He still has it! So sorry for your friends and grateful they are physically safe. You are a generous man.

How sad. I know the feeling of having a fire, the devastation is awful. We had a fire in 2021. Everything in the house had to be removed due to smoke ash etc. I pray the owners get some help. You are a great man for all you are doing for your friend. ❤️💙

You are a good friend for helping him like that and giving him the money. How far did you have to travel? There was snow at your house but not at his.

It was maybe a 40min drive, the only reason it was snowy at my house is I waited a few days before dealing with the second haul and it snowed in that time

I had an idea for a video I'd love to see you make - I'd like seeing what happens to the recycled metal after you scrap it. Like what tin shred gets used for, what prepared gets used for, etc.

The scrap yard I go to on Vancouver Island won't accept any metal that has been in a fire. They told me it was illegal for them to accept it in British Columbia. It seems crazy to me, but the BC gov is not of sound mind.

There'd be a trip to the next province over if you had enough to make it worth while figuring in time and distance. For me I drive my non ferrous about 90 miles to get much better prices on it. And a little farther past that for my E-scrap because my state is stupid so I have to go to the next one over for that.

Your country sounds like a shitty place to live lol. I run a scrap yard and my state doesnt have any weird laws like that. The only thing they are strict on is purchasing catalytic converters where we need VIN numbers and stuff like that. But in terms of scrap metal just take an ID or w.e. We dont treat scrappers like criminals lol.

Sorry about your buddy thub, but at least they are ok. Stuff can be replaced. Melted / fire damaged stuff has gotta be the worse sorta thing to sort.. apart from greasy kitchen or workshop stuff.

Good to hear no one was hurt. Did he not have replacement insurance? With the way you're going through stuff I'm guessing not. My garage burned a few years back and we had to go through literally everything piece by piece, photograph it, document it, put an approximate age on it, look up prices for everything and then submit the claim. They paid a depreciated value of everything then once I bought replacement items I sent them the receipts and they paid the rest. The claims adjuster came out, did an amazing job, and told me "If there's a smudge of soot on it, claim it." The worst part of a fire though is afterwards when all is said and done and you go looking for something that you had only to remember that "it was in the fire and must have burned away, and I didn't claim it." That's happened several times since then.

Re: Compensation. A friend of mine wanted to compensate a old German guy who did an addition job for free. But this German gentleman insisted that the job was gratis and he was not taking money. So I said to my friend, "Find out what beer he drinks. He's might turn down money.....but he's no gonna turn down beer." And whaddaya know....I was right.

You are a good friend ! I’m in Calgary myself . Which is the best scrap yard to go to ? My condolences to your friends loss . Insurance companies really suck these days . High priced , and if something bad happens , I feel they short change you . So was this an electric vehicle that started the fire ? You mentioned a battery charger being plugged in over night .
@thubprint
@thubprint 4 ай бұрын
An electric vehicle? There’s nothing in there related to an electric vehicle lol, you may be revealing a bias! Forensics still haven’t determined the cause of the fire. As for the best scrapyard, I personally prefer Recon metal for most everything these days. Empire can be fine too. A lot of other ones I found would advertise really good prices but then when you go there none of your stuff is ever clean enough or not sorted properly and you never make as much as you thought you would

How did those gas oxy and acetylene tanks not go kaboom?

All of them were just fresh air tanks, none were fuel or oxygen. The big tanks may have fed the fire but they weren’t accelerants

Also all those tanks have overpressure valves or thermal fuses to release pressure before it gets high enough to burst the tank.

If anyone in the states wants to get their insurance looked at, hit me up for a free review. I work with an independent broker that writes in all 50 states. My sister and I were in an apartment fire years ago and had no insurance. Thankfully our apartment just happened to be in the right place that it avoided getting damaged.
