I can relate to being attached to inanimate objects and "trash" as my parents say and it is EXTREMELY hard to let go of! I took a bunch of things with me to college that three years in I realized I didn't need, but I just couldn't decide what to take and what to leave, I kept saying things like "i'll need this" "I might use this" "I wanna keep this with me" "this reminds me of this" "you'll break this if I leave it here"... You're doing great Farina! Moving is hard and moving to a new country is even harder!! I'd suggest you sort your boxes slowly and maybe leave a box at your parents or Dongin's parents house if possible with the items that you can't take with you but you can't let go of as well Cheer up you're doing great, I'm proud of you

I just moved to a different country for the second time in 3 years. I hate moving, I always have, and it certainly doesn't get any easier (for me personally). Every time it's been one of the hardest periods in my life (the organisation of an international move). Allow yourself the space to feel your feelings. It's super overwhelming and it's only normal. Don't be too hard on yourself for feeling sad when you "should" be excited. The excitement will come after, once you're settled in your new place and once you realise you took an amazing big step that will benefit you for the rest of your life. Moving to new places really does enrich your life!! You are doing the best that you can!! I promise you won't feel like this forever!

I totally can relate to how you are feeling. I am also a really sentimental person. I moved to Korea in 2019 and it was certainly overwhelming to pack my whole life into three suitcases. And not gonna lie, being in a new country was also overwhelming for a while! But now I have my own family and a beautiful son who is almost one year old! You have a great support system, and I know it will get better soon! Korea is a wonderful place and you’re gonna love it here~

Farina, you gotta give yourself major credit for taking the necessary steps to deal with these stressful times. You're keeping yourself hydrated, doing yoga, taking therapy and even being open to share your emotions. Not many people can do that. Most people lock themselves in their shells. Stay safe. You're a great inspiration for a lot of us.

Hey Farina, I totally get you on finding it difficult to let stuff go. I've had moments like that too. One thing that I got as a tip back then, which I think was a great tip, is to take pictures of the things that have sentimental value for you, but that you won't be actively using a lot. That way you can still look back at them and enjoy the memory that's attached to them, but you can also let go of the object itself. In the end it is the memory that it holds that is important, not the actual material. It's totally okay to keep a few things that are really close to your heart, that you really feel you can't live without!! But all the other stuff, you can let go with love, and maybe you can make a nice picture album for yourself eventually (when you've moved and you have time to put the pictures together), so you can occasionally grab that and flip through it.

GIRL. I feel you-on like, everything. Seriously felt like I was watching myself 😅 I’m also prepping to move to Korea, and I’m feeling that overwhelm and zombie-mode. It feels like there’s this giant wave of to-do’s hanging over my head and it makes it hard to be completely excited about going because everything is so daunting. But, I know we’ll get through it-we just gotta take it one day at a time. Steadily chip away at the to-do’s, but make sure to also take some breaks from it. You got this ❤

Farina, I could tell you really needed a hug at the end. Moving is so stressful and overwhelming. I’m about to move myself and I’ve been hit with a whirlwind of anxiety. I couldn’t imagine how you feel moving to another country. You’re doing great, and like you said, everything will work out in the end. You and Dongin are about to start a whole new life! No matter what happens or how you feel right now, just know some happiness is around the corner 💜

Believe me I know that feeling, not wanting to let go because it carries a sweet moment and each time you look at it it reminds you of that time. but...When you give them away or recycle etc. those memories don't go away with them. It's about letting yourself to accept making new memories with new stuff. Then the cycle goes like this. If you still struggle whether you should keep it or not, ask yourself "Is this going to be useful for me more than 4-5 times in the future?". As a person who usually put too much meaning to by old stuff approaching with a rational mindset works much better for me. Hope that helps. Good luck :))

What has really helped me in letting go of things when decluttering is to thank the things for their use and purpose for the time I’ve had them, it makes it so much easier for me to release my emotions around them. The Konmari method taught me that ❤

I was the same. I just closed up shop including selling/ donating all my belongings before heading off to live as an international wandering nomad for the next year (including two months in Korea in the fall). At the last minute (the last month) a billion things went wrong. With my apartment and the deposit, with emergency dental work and sudden last minute medical tests. Money and time were rapidly pouring down the drain. I started to physically fall apart (no sleep, eating bad, sleeping on an air mattress and destroying my back etc). So because I needed to keep going and couldn’t afford to fall apart I hit the big internal OFF button. Turned off all emotions and became a machine who looked ahead no more than one hour at a time. Who finished a task and just moved on to the next, then repeat until I literally couldn’t keep going. Pass out, wake up, pick right up where I left off. Never think about what I was doing or why. Just push forward. It was a little sad when I had originally planned to spend the last couple weeks saying goodbye, sentimentally visiting my favorite spots and people. But that deadline was out the window now. My only mantra was “do as much as you can as fast as you can until you run out of time”. I say this now, coming out the other end of the madness, that it takes a minute to recover. Even once you arrive at the new destination you were originally excited for, you might just need to rest and do nothing before positive emotions come back. But they do! One day you’ll look around at the start to your new life and finally feel the joy and thrill of adventure you worked so hard for. Hang in there! It’ll all work out ❤️

17:31 as someone who has been watching you for years, and just as a person, I feel you here. and I felt bad that dongin kept telling you what you have to do. absolutely nothing against him as a wonderful human you are sharing your life with. it’s just that I hate when I feel the way it seems you do after that whole talk. I just went thru a huge downsize and I needed my mom to help but I still have stuff in my garage now bc even with forty days notice, and only two blocks away, surprisingly this entire house holds less than a third of a house did. bc there’s not enough storage here. so many books and clothes and stuffies are gone or with the stuffies, the remaining ones not on my bed are in nets in the corner like I’m a little kid lol I wish you the best of everything with all you have to do. come June you will be more upbeat and happier. your therapist is right and you need to allow yourself to feel it all. I trust you’ll get out all done in time and dongin won’t let you feel bad for too long. he seems to be so good to you.

a little tip from an older sister, becoming 18 doesn't get to change your life drastically. You get to have more freedom and your responsibilities sure do increase but its not a big deal at least not worthy enough to give yourself an anxiety. I am saying this but I remember crying a month before I become an adult. In the end worrying for future doesn't help you gain anything out of it and let it flow...Happy great birthday in advance!! :)

As someone who moved a lot and is also from Europe but abroad in Japan with mental health issues, it’s totally ok to keep some of the things you really like Farina and to have emotional attachments like for the plushies ❤️ Don’t force yourself if you’re not ready, maybe you can let things at your parents house or something like that, if you’re not ready to let go of a few things it’s ok (I personally took years to get rid of some few things I stocked at my mom house and my mom house is very small yet we found a way, mentally it’s way better to wait to be ready), yes it might be just things for some people but we’re all different and it’s not just things for everyone, your feelings are totally valid as it’s ok to feel stronger emotions about objects, obviously when having too many things it’s important to get rid of a few things but the ones you like the most with the best energy and memories and that still make you feel the best then you should keep it, there’s always options even when moving to a smaller place and in another country I promise as I’ve been through that more than once, sending hugs ❤️

I'm 42yrs, I feel like an old lady. I have lost all my possessions 4 times in my life. I know it doesn't feel good, moving past all the stuff is possible. I was forced. It wasn't by my own choice. Don't think of it as getting rid of, you are making room for all your new... adventures, memories, loves and favs, etc. I know this is KZfaq so I'm not sure of the actual state of your relationship. But you two seem to be maturing nicely into each other. All your negative emotions about pressure are temporary. If you let them simple pass through, that's exactly what they'll do. They are not you. I say this with much respect for you both. Good luck!

It's soo relatable the overwhelming feeling and struggling with letting go, when I go through that it gets really scary the only thing that seems to work for me is visualising the after - that once this is over how proud I'll be of myself to have completed all of it, to have pushed through, to have finally let go and realised it's the memories that matter evidence or no evidence the precious feeling will always stay. Hoping it's gets smoother for you! Can't wait to see you relieved once it's all done! All the very best, hope great things come you way soon making everything worth it! PS : You have a lovely smile !!

Even after going through all the stuff and some still can't throw away for whatever sentimental value and still usable, then packed them into just 1 big box and stored it away at your parents' house for the time being. That's what I did when I moved abroad for 3 years. If something you have not used or touched for a long time, it's likely you can throw it away. Too much clutter also clutters the mind. Keep only the things you really need. Now I buy only the things I truly need, so I don't end up with cluttering and then later have to declutter. I'm minimalist now, easier for me too if I move again.

Farina, I have the same struggles going through my things and getting rid of stuff when I have to move. I get so attached to object because they hold precious memories for me. I have slowly been learning how to let go of the objects and hold on to the memories, but it's still difficult every time. Even though my heart breaks when I give something away, I have to remind myself that I didn't lose the memory which is the important part. Thankfully it gets easier every time.

I know it's hard to let go, especially when each object has a story and a meaning. But letting go an object doesn't imply letting go the memory and feelings it brings you. What I usually do in this cases, is taking a picture of the object and then I write down what it is and why is it meaningful, and save it in an album of "meaningful things". That album is now the only "thing" I truly need, and can get rid of the other ones when the time comes.

Farina its okay to be sad , lost in what we do🫂, life is not for living in but living through❤️ im glad that you're here keeping going because the existence itself is hard and exhausting. You can fall but have to get up by you feet❤️ i wanna give you a big big hug 🫂 , its fine to be attached to things its the signs that you're human and well surrounded🫂 but sometimes we have to make choice for our best ❤️ you can see it in good day : a new pages/step of life ❤️, as long as we grow life is evolueing we have to take some of the pages of the past to make place for the futures things memories that thos new pages will give🫂❤️

I feel like in that moment of unpacking and overwhelme ask her if she wants solutions or support/comfort. It gives a sense of control when you feel none and also shows you are willing to help them in a way that is comfortable and manageable for them in that moment. My partner and I do this regularly as I have many health disorders and he gets stressed too. I hope this might help anyone reading this.

I was the same way but I took pictures of sentimental items. Then I was able to get rid of alot of stuff. Fews months later I looked at the pictures and was like I don't need them and deleted them. It's wild that getting rid of them was difficult but once gone I couldn't care less

❤️ These things where in those boxes for over a year. You didn’t need or miss them throughout that time. So just marie kondo it. If it’s broken or you don’t even know what it is, you don’t need it. You didn’t need it for all the time it was left in those boxes. If you look at the object and it immediately sparks joy or if it’s some lame adult shit that needs to be kept, keep it. If you start thinking yeah but it might be useful or I might still need it in the future, ditch it. You didn’t need it for the last 365 days aka all most likely situation you’ll meet in the future. About that computer and similar stuff, I’m sure your parents or brother are willing to help you out. They know how much you have to do and how complicated moving is. You got this Farina! I believe in you! 💕

You don't have to throw stuff away if you're willing to pay for a storage. I don't know how much it costs where you live but for $50 a month you can rent a small space for stuff that will be waiting for you if you decide to go back. If you manage to get a bigger place in Korea later on, you can also bring some stuff that you want back to Korea each time you visit the old country.

Hang in there Farina. I know it’s hard to get rid of things. Honestly if I didn’t look into a box in years I asked my husband to go through it and get rid of it. Whatever it is I forgot about it so I let him pick out if there was anything important. Once you look at things it will bring back memories and you will re-attached yourself. It’s better to hold onto was in front of you then what is in a box in storage.

If you have to let go of a lot of stuff you would really like to keep take a picture of it. You can look at the picture(s) and recall the memories. As a frequent mover during my childhood, I learned that things aren’t as important as you think...memories are. Plus pictures are a lot easier to carry. Good luck! ❤🇨🇦

I really understand the whole feeling down from approaching deadlines and less interesting things, paperwork and the part where farina said she forgets to eat and hydrate. Honestly, as a person with adhd, somedays even basic tasks feel hard and overwhelming. Take your time farina, please rest and I hope you realise your struggles are understood.

I feel like giving u philosophical take on this just to help u out 😬😂 Nothing is permanent, everything is in flux, if u embrace this truth it would be easier to let go. Like every passing moment, changing seasons, cycles, birth to death. So, don't cling onto things, appreciate it, say thank u to what u had n let go with gratitude with the knowing that something better comes in. When u lose something u gain something. Everything balances out. Give urself time to process ur emotions on it, u let the old go to let the new in. Attachment leads to suffering so embrace change n let go with gratitude. Idk if this will help but i felt like writing it so, i know transitions r always hard but i hope u do well as u make this transition u got this! Love u 💓

OMG i used to hoard so much stuff which i thought had “sentimental value” too, but i realise when i was moving to my new place that all the stuff was just gonna take up space and become clutter instead. I found this AMAZING solution which was to take pictures of all the stuff that i want to remember and print out the pictures and keep it in a folder!! That way i can look at and remember all my stuff but i wont need to have it physically taking up space 💯 it worked out great!!
