Thanks for this video. I had been eying a Gretsch but instead in May 2023 went with a Fender Squire Classic Vibe Telecaster FSR Custom baritone 27" scale which of course came tuned in the standard BEADF#B tuning and Squire puts on .014-.068 gauge round wound strings....but since I have changed to flat wounds (which I prefer and have on all my electrics as they're more comfortable and there's no squeak moving along the fretboard) and gauges .015-.060. I have also discovered some very cool alternate tunings for baritone guitar such as : AEADF#B. or AEADEA (DADGAD equivalent) or GDADEA. or GDGCEA or ADGCEA.

I got one of these and the only major thing it needed done to it was a neck shim. Once it was shimmed, even my luthier was blown away by how good it sounded and played. Definitely a great guitar, I like it more than the Reverend Descent baritone I used to have.

Baritones are great for getting those low tones often reserved for 7 strings... 6 string necks always felt like home to me, I can't play with same confidence on a wider 7 string neck, so to get those low rhythm tones, baritones make a lot of sense. Really the only need for a seven string is if you still need that high-e, and if you're mainly doing rhythm, the focus is on the lower strings and further builds the case for baritone. Baritone, it's a 6 string 7 string guitar :).

Totally agree on using lower output pickups with high gain amps. Im using 2 bilts, one a baritone, in C and A with lollar el rayos into a fryette deliverance playing doomy shoegaze. That lower output keeps things tight and articulate. Love it. Great video btw. Also, have you seen the newer Aria Pro II Jet baritones? They look and sound great and are very reasonably priced

Thank you for the demo with this scale length in B standard. While the Gretsch baritone is just short of 30" Bass VI scale, everyone else who has a "30 inch baritone" seems to tune closer to Bass VI tuning.

Great Sound !! You can make anything sound good: you have that magic touch. Only Baritone Guitar I own is a 1998 Danelectro: works for me on the old spaghetti western movie songs - Th Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and other songs by Ennio Morricone. For other guitars I just use standard D tuning: 2 semitones lower than standard E turning because I can’t afford another guitar. Lowering each string 2 semitones also works on my 1992 Ibanez UV 7 String.. Of course I’d love to have a Gretsch Baritone, but it’s not in my budget right now. 😁🌴🥥🎸 Still in Arecibo Puerto Rico 🌴🌴🌴Len🌴🌴🌴

I love this guitar, and I change my old 7 string with one of this... For me the best thing is that a 7 string has only one string more than a normal guita but is a normal guitar playing normal chords and arpeggios... Baritone guitar can play beautiful low chords and arpeggios (sorry for my bad English)

I'm holding out for an ESP Viper-1000 because I love the ESP necks & shorter length...but you are making me want one of these too.. You've made it sound the best I've heard with the stock pickups...even better than many with upgraded pickups which was another thing I didn't want to have to do.. Great playing, tone & beautifully done demoing what this thing can do. You got a sub. Question, how do you feel about an ESP Viper being modded with a floy'd rose? I know they have a version of the Gretsch with a Bigsby trem but they aren't great for doing Dimebag type dive-bombs or pulling it up. That's what I would like ideally...A Baritone that plays like my ESP MII Deluxe (90's model). Any thoughts or suggestions?

A baritone guitar is like a 7 string with the high E string removed,, but it doesn't require a fat lower B string to get that low. Longer strings are naturally lower in pitch, so they can achieve the desired pitch without being slack.

@ZachWish
@ZachWish Жыл бұрын
They're both extended scale length guitars, but from the factory, the Bass VI is setup a bit more like a bass. The Fender has a 30" scale so it's .25" longer than the Gretsch. The Gretsch comes stock with .014-.072 gauge strings and the Fender comes with .024 -.084. You could restring either to be more like the other, but you'd probably have to widen the nut slots on the Gretsch to fit the heavier gauge strings.

You don't tune down. It's more like tuning to standard E tuning, and then magically adding neck and string length to the guitar. So you're tuned to E, but the E is at the 5th fret now. That's literally true - if you checked the tension on the strings, it would be the same as a standard neck guitar. You just get notes a fourth lower because the neck is lower.
