Жыл бұрынUnknown quantities of dirt, rocks, and sand do not make for a great turning experience, and I certainly learned a few things the hard way with this one. For starters, the manufacturer of the casting resin, @superclearepoxy advised me to expect resin chipout when turning at high speeds, so I have grown accustomed to intense, hand-scarring resin shrapnel for the first rough shaping passes. (Hence, this was also my first time using gloves while turning.) In the past, I have had problems with carbide bits loosening, but I had never before had a carbide cutter break. So, my initial assumption was that I had hit a rock or a piece of metal, but nope, it was just super hard epoxy. @EasyWoodTools was great and replaced both the carbide cutter and the screw for free. I eventually resorted to an angle grinder to negotiate the dirt, and I knew there was more dirt and rocks potentially inside the piece. While hollowing the piece, I could tell that a significant portion of the material was dirt/sand/and small rocks, because there were very few clean cuts and lots of vibration. @Lyle , the manufacturer of the hollowing system, had some great advice for me regarding proper hollowing techniques, but we eventually agreed that this material was becoming unworkable and potentially unsafe. However, with the help of Starbond CA glue and TotalBoat epoxy, victory was within reach!

I had the honor of growing up in a household of woodworkers and spent what felt like my entire childhood, sanding EVERYTHING! But I truly wish that my grandfather and uncle were alive today to see this work of art...they would be stunned. The entire process is amazing and I'm glad I didn't have to sand it!!!

Those "frustrations" were Mother Nature's way of saying "stop making things from my beautiful trees". It's because of people like him that there's a massive increase in blood clots and heart attacks from Global Warming.

THIS was absolutely glorious to journey with you. It felt for me, like taking a ride and trusting the driver to an unknown destination, while being open to whatever was found on the other side. The finished production... a soul stirring contribution of worlds, come together in harmony... and the spirit song sang, did infact move me... deeply. Well done indeed. The idea of NOT hiding the "break". Opening the idea of broken to something better. Is the term you used for the Chinese/Japanese rapairs to pottery and the like ( not sure of the origin ). Looks exactly right. Don't hide "mistakes". Own them, and show how you learned from them. Love it. It's funny. A wood and faux glass pot actually can inspire. THAT is why this is great work. Not mass produced for profit. Uniquely made for pure love and demonstration of understanding and skill. Worth every moment watching.

I'm so glad videos like this are here for people like me to see. Sometimes we walk into a shop and see an item like this with a what we see as a extremly high price. Watching how much skill it takes to bring something like this to the public is impotant. By knowing part of the process and the skills needed, price no longer is as an important part as is how much you admire the talent and the beauty of the piece of Art.

@@karlwithak. So.... it doesn't diminish the value of the work to "dad and dad-friends" or of the art. That's why art is subjective, and no one is forcing you to either like it or buy it, whether I think it's amazing (I do), or bizarre, or worth $5K to me, or maybe not to you. Or don't call it art, call it amazing craftsmanship, or don't call it anything at all. Just don't pretend it's still garbage or that the technique and work here aren't fantastic. I have a couple of projects I cherish that I think are worth a lot, my heirs and their heirs may not. Even da Vinci painted over many of his canvases or tossed them or re-did them. Now we wonder how could he not know their worth.... subjective, and time.

When you added the gold resin to the part that was weakened it reminded me of kintsugi, the Japanese art in which gold is used to repair pottery. Which is also part of a beautiful philosophy to stay optimistic when things fall apart and accept flaws. This is a very beautiful piece!

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. kzfaq.infoUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

I agree that it is gorgeous, and had I the tools, I would consider trying something similar inspired by this video, but I happen to love how tree roots look in their natural form as well and have a bunch of them decorating my cabin in the forest, both inside and outside :D All from trees that died on their own, or at least without me playing an active part in their death. Just like how I have a few decorative animal skulls from animals I didn't kill, since I don't kill any living being knowingly. But I still love how these skulls and roots look, and how wonderful nature shaped them for their function.

@@farzanatasneem To me those names are almost interchangeable. I live in nature and nature lives within me. I exist within a universe, and a universe exists within me. Whatever "I" and "me" means. I have gained "supernatural" powers through reconnecting with nature, which I consider to be the will of life itself (the "fatherly" spark) given physical form and "born" in the ("motherly") material in this case, or in the spiritual, the thought. So yeah, if you would put it in words assuming the fatherly, that shaped started it, is god, you could say god shaped them. But I'm on good terms with all of the just ones, myself included, as I am part of them, part of One in solidarity, one of them, and a solitary individual all at once, love my brothers and sisters as I love myself, be they ants or whales or birds or trees, all born from the same "father" and "mother", through the same harmony, and I don't take orders from anyone. I live and let live. So no, I won't say that on command, not even when it came directly from them, and it won't offend them if they are kind, rightfully arrogant AND exemplary humble, as they know me, taught me, and learn through me. "They" don't "work" that way. They, or we, have free will and are not obedient slaves. That would be an offense to the one you resemble, represent, ARE, and got your free will from. I am not a god fearing man. I am a loving man with the power to judge and execute and take responsibility for my actions, and change my ways should I judge them unjust, no matter if that goes against the terror of humanity and/or the accepted beliefs of what "god" is. If said "god" thinks he can overrule my free will and judgement with power and punishment, he can join all the other false authorities in trying, but he won't be able to, and will lose my faith in him just as the others. These are "my" words, just as much as they are yours, I just hope they helped you understand my perspective, my experience, my message, and you will refrain from enforcing anyone's will as my command, my "law", unless I stole their freedom or their life. If god were a physical being towering over me telling me to say he's great, I would tell him the same. But god is none of that. And I know what I am. ... That said, I wish you an interesting experience and valuable lessons. And joy in rest and harmony.

Whoa. This video brings to mind a story I read many years ago about a sculptor (Michelangelo, Rodin?) who could “see” a creation inside a block of stone before he ever even picked up the chisel. How you envisioned the vase emerging from that gnarled root ball is beyond my imagination. The whole process is an exercise in patience, creativity, and personal fortitude. Kudos.

I am new. Incredible! I did wood working in my senior year 1983-84. Only one person made spindle legs for a project... I remember watching him in awe. This is 10 times more unbelievable! I look forward to watching more!

WoW!!!! 😯😎 you are amazing and how you came up with this and to get the drying container, whatever it’s all with the gauges on it unbelievable and I’ve seen some cool woodwork stuff done… This one is fabulous. I love how you use this plant tree trunk and you take it all down so you see the wood in with the resin buildup stuff that you made fabulous David just fabulous…

So many times I have seen you create something so stunningly beautiful that the rest of us poor mortals just scoff and say, ‘It can’t be done!’ You then calmly and methodically proceed to do just that. This one however is beyond the pale. The hardships along the way merely provided opportunities to further gild the lily. No way to compare my work with this piece of art but I know the feeling when working with this kind of wood with my primitive tools. I never use resins but I rarely know the final result which comes oon the way. So dangerous when working on irregular wood trying to hollow it. (Both for my hands and the wood). Videos of this kind provides inspiration. Thanks

Such a dangerous piece of wood to carve, I am so curious about the 4 different colors of resin in the beginning and the final color. It’s also amazing that you used three different brands of resin in the whole project. I am mesmerized!😮

That’s pretty amazing. I’ve only just seen this on you tube ( I fell asleep watching something else and awoke to this). You truly have a beautiful mind to have seen this when you started. The only thing I’ve admired about shrub roots… well any tree root really is they burn in a wood stove for a very long time. Which is good if you’re trying to stay warm while sleeping on a cold wintry night. Well done!

I have been a CNC lathe machinist for the last 30 years. I have made some incredible pieces out of metal with the help of the computer. I have got to say incredibly good job. I know how many hours it took to make that work of art. I’m blown away brother, I am in awe. Talk about patience and ingenuity, respect dude. The tenacity great job.
