Little known today, Johnny B Nughts was a singer songwriter best known for his single "I Slammed My Nuts In The Ottoman." Though intended as a joke, it made it past the execs at the RCA record labels in 1957 and became an instant hit.

As a media historian, he is obviously referencing the original series of shorts from the Ed Sullivan show. Though those shorts are lost, it is estimated they aired between 1953 and 1956. The show most of us know today is technically a reboot inspired by the original shorts.

@@HanaDubs Certainly. We are jesting when we refer to the empire. But in this case, according to the lyricist's liner notes, "ottoman" is a metaphor for a woman. Another type of object you rest your feet upon. The Ikea reference denotes that it is a Swedish woman, or perhaps a Moslem immigrant woman in Malmo, across the Øresundsbroen from Copenhagen.

I was in Tallahassee, Florida in 1958, at the Ballwanger's Cafe, when in comes Johnny and Patsy all of a sudden. They both got up on the stage and did an impromptu version of _My Nuts Are Blue_ and _Something's Slimy in My Undies_ . I'll never forget it as long as I live, which won't be long now.
