I owned my Black bay 58 from Tudor for almost a year, coming a few weeks shy before swapping it for a Speedmaster. Here's why I sold it. If you're enjoying your Tudor Black Bay 58, please don't watch my nit-picky review. Enjoy your piece and don't plant the seeds of doubt! Why what I really want is a thinner Pelagos.

I love my BB58 navi blue. The look, the wearability, the color- everything. A perfect everyday watch. Since some weeks I think about to buy the black Pelagos too. Like the look, the mat ceramic, but I am not sure if it’s to thick. And i have two divers right now in the collection. I buy watches, sometimes I sell watches, but I think the BB58 is a keeper for me.

There’s nothing wrong with the hype on this watch, it’s very much justified. It just wasn’t for you and that’s okay. Omegas get hyped up all the time but I really don’t like any of the looks of their watches except the Speedy. The other watches are still worth the hype and will work for a lot of people, they just don’t work for me.

I could not agree more. I was debating getting an omega seamaster or the Blue Bay 58 but the omega just didn't do anything for me and i cant get over how ugly the bracelets on them are ( Not saying its a bad watch at all) . The Tudor just did more for me overall and over 3 months later i still love it.

@@vyrv - Yes I tried on the Seamaster expecting it to be my next purchase and it just struck me as a very 1990’s styling. It is a beautifully made watch, I guess I just like a more conservative or vintage simplistic design.

Well said Brett I feel like the hobby has just become options and values being measured by a yard stick and people needing to sell a watch they saved up for to feel good about themselves and to then buy something else they dont like and then follow the hype train. If a watch suits your needs and can comfortably afford it it's fine, but buying a watch you dont like to say you have it to sell it months later is just I dont know strange I guess.

Great video! As much as I love my bb58 blue (and considering buying black as well), I think we need more of down to earth reviews like that. Majority of what I found in YT is driven by hype. There's no perfect watch for everyone and that's great since it makes this hobby to great!

I had the blue and the black. Sold the blue for similar reasons, and give the black to my father, One day, I saw the watch on his wrist and fell in love. Is unique. I have an Explorer II and every now and them swap it for his Tudor, and For my own surprise, I’m starting to like more the Tudor that the Rolex.

For me the gilt is the version to get. I have the Rolex big crown which I never wear out n about at least not since 1999. I have my 5-digit sub, a Korean War era Mido, Casio 6600, 6900, Speed Square, SKX-007, and an Arnie. Still my BB58 gets worn pretty much everyday. For me I have to add this in here because I am pretty sure not many own a Rolex Big Crown Sub. The BB58 wears almost exactly as the Big Crown. I guess what the BB58 really is the Big Crown in a way yet still holding that it is it’s own thing at the same time. My 5-digit sub was my daily wearer but the BB58 in my opinion is a better watch with some of that ol school vibe from the 50s. Also, I have scuba dived, snorkeled, hiked, bike riding, Tennis, and many other activities outside of basketball and boxing. Don’t have to worry about it or baby it. In the end it comes down to preference. If your looking for something Rolex used to be and one similar to the big crown and having that DNA in it while still being it’s own thing this is the piece for you.

Once again, great video and great advice. Often times people buy a watch to impress others more than they really want it for themselves. I’m guilty of this as well. It can be an expensive mistake but it’s a good thing that these hyped watches sell pretty fast. In the end, if I’m spending so much money on a luxury item, I better like all of it. Same as you, I like the bb58 a lot but I’m a bracelet guy and compared to an oyster style bracelet, this one leaves something to be desired. Lack of the bracelet quick adjust is also something I can’t live without since I got my CW Trident C60. So close for me this one, so close..

I have a BB 41mm heritage with the red bezel. I didn't care much about it when it came out and David Beckham wore it in ads but when i went to Rome, Italy, with my family, i saw this fascinating woman in a store all dressed in black with long black hair and the only thing colorful she had was this - on her wrist - totally oversized watch with the big red bezel that she had on a red NATO strap. In that moment i started wanting this watch and it has never stoped. It always reminds me of a wonderful summer holiday, an awfully rainy day and that beautiful woman i never saw again. This watch is definitely a keeper for me.

I'm about the get the black BB58 and I'm confident that I'm not doing it for the hype since I've been lusting for that watch since 2018, then after watching countless reviews back in the day I've kinda stopped chasing after it but now I'm back and this time I think it's genuinely for the looks and not the hype generated through KZfaq and Instagram, all in all a way better place to be in when thinking about buying something rather expensive! Also I'm in love with the proportions, I tried the blue BB58 at my AD and was stunned by how slim it really is irl (watches always look so much bigger in videos imo) which is a good thing since I have slim wrists. At that day the AD didn't have a black one to show me but they told me that they'd get one in next week, so I'm going to head over there again to try that one on as well and at this point I'm 99% sure that it will join my collection!

I have tried the 58 several times, both the blue and the original black version. I agree, they are excessively overhyped. I personally like the size and the clasp, but hate the polished sides, the aluminium bezel (it should be ceramic at this price like the Pelagos) and the lack of date (it is useful for me in my job).

I got my BB58 blue once I saved up the money for my high school graduation. I love the watch and this one is a keeper for me. Personally, I love the snowflake hands and the style of vintage Rolex/Tudor subs, so this is a good blend for me. I enjoy the bracelet a lot and haven’t really worn it on a strap-I’m curious to try one of the Foster bands oyster style bracelets on it. Anyways, you made some very valid points. Looked at the tudor range and really liked the pelagos more. Then I saw that the markers on the bezel were falling off on some of them ? I like omega seamaster 300 too, but they are quite thick and chunky. In the end I purchased a seiko sla043, the 62mas with the blue seconds hand. The build quality is insane on this watch , and makes the omega and tudor feel cheap in comparison. Yes 4k for a seiko , but I'd pit it against any 10k watch from rolex in terms of build quality. And the best bit is , I got mine at just over half retail price used, but mint. Drilled lugs, ceramic bezel, beautiful deep blue dial and indices , that change in sunlight , really pop, seikos new ever bright steel , which is 1.7 x harder than 316, and as good as rolexes 904 steel. Not forgetting the lume is insane, so crisply done and strong , and the beautiful framed date window and beautiful polished rehaut. And they even signed the crown . Oh and the grand seiko movement too, that should of been regulated is the only flaw on this magnificent watch. As good as a rolex sub at half the price , what's not to like !!!

I couldn’t agree with you more on the point of wait and not rush into a purchase. For me, if I’m interested in a particular watch, I will download the photo into my mobile. I will stare at the photos during free time for weeks or even months. Often, many watches got eliminated after days or weeks, few last for months. Those that did, will go into my buying list. Of course, always try the watch on wrist and see the watch in the metal before pulling the trigger.

I immediately thought of the Explorer on all of your last talking points. Watch Collecting Social Media and KZfaq feels like an Echo Chamber at times, with everyone liking and disliking the same watches all at once. Completely agree regarding seeking affirmation online, but I believe it works both ways. So many “dumping my Black Bay 58” videos out now, and I often wonder how many of these people have been influenced by others pointing out the faults. Funny how some watches are immune to this (like the Explorer), despite it also being a boring and flawed watch (both the older and new models).

I’ve been watching BB58 reviews again lately to try and re-affirm my appreciation for it. I’ve actually sold off a bunch of other watches around it, and I’m even going to sell my PVD-gold PRX PM80 35mm. A part of me wants to keep the BB58 navy as my final watch, but another part of me just wants to step up to an OP36/DJ36 and be done with it. I’m not sure what I’ll do tbh.

Thanks a lot for your video. Funny how you mention details about the BB 58 black which I really like about it. I tried a Rolex Oyster bracelet on my BB 58, it fits perfectly but seems off to me, as the older Tudor and Rolex watches all had riveted bracelets. The typo on the Pelagos seems to high for my taste and I love it that the dial has all kinds of geometrical shapes on it. The legibility of the dial is so good, because nothing is mistaken for something else. I wore it on a thick black tropical, the one with the holes and the diagonal pattern, best bracelet next to the metal one. I love the BB 58 best of all Tudor watches. That might be, because I was looking for exactly that watch after the hype was gone. Omega has no divers I really like, i did not want a Rolex or Mercedes or sword hands and I don’t like a pencil hour hand on a diver either. Although I have other watches the BB 58 is my one watch collection. I wear the others only in case the BB 58 is not the right one for the occasion (happens not that often).

Dude we have like the same taste in watches I swear, I share all your critiques of the BB58 although I haven't bought one yet, I just love the history, the value, and the direction the brand is headed. So far the one best suits my taste is the og black dial, i think the circles with the squares will bother me most likely, and I agree with you on the black not working on straps as opposed to it's bracelet, I am not bracelet guy but for this one I think I'll have to be. but most of all what I think will bother me the most is that there isn't red anywhere else on the dial besides the triangle, I understand thats how the original big crown was but it just looks off the me, the 200 meter text should be red at the least, just that would make a huge difference for me.

Gonna soon get my black bay 58 blue version, gonna keep it forever saving for some time my first proper watch, before using the casio f 91w and a 168 and casio edifice for some time, felt like a mini computer on my wrist . Oris felt to aviation inspired and other swiss brands felt like they are trying to be something there are not great watches but either look like homages, omega seamaster .... cough cough or too vintage looks like you came out of a 1930s silent film . Tudor a poor man rolex , but I dont see it that way , I see it as a beautiful design that combines with its blandness give it a seamless effortless design, it looks great in the 70s and even today never looks out of place . Sometimes a really made tought yet elegant watch is what I need. Loved your vedio man , honest about your journey and keeping it real.

BB Fifty-Eight Blue is my perfect weekend watch. Slim, classically proportioned and conversation in colour, with a glimpse of the summer. Love the snowflake hands (not as much as dauphine, but dauphines belong in dress pieces). The only thing that bothers me is an idea of a relatively expensive sports piece, sometimes I think a doxa or Oris would be more suitable for adventures.

Such an underrated channel this. Keep it going! I have just decided to sell by black 58. What it really boils down to is the vintage style and the bracelet. Before I bought it I already knew everyone online hated the rivets, so I thought yeah I'm gonna hate them too. But no they are actually quite cool and they do fit the watch. But the jumping from one link to the other is really not nice, the "flow" of an oyster is so much better, like the new Pelagos 39. PLEASE Tudor make a modern 58 in stainless steel with the new style bracelet of the P39 and a flat sapphire with a ceramic bezel, that would be killer. + a date window also. Overall if I had the money to own 5-10 watches this would definitely be in the collection as a "vintage" piece. As for now, the search for the "perfect" watch goes on, thought I don't believe there is a perfect one watch.

Interesting video. I actually just sold an ETA Pelagos and replaced it with the blue BB58 (over the Pelagos 39). All valid subjective points. As an owner of a SD43 and Grand Seiko SBGA229, I was looking for a smaller, slimmer dive option and the 58 is perfect for that (the BB58 is at the small end for my wrist size). I don’t mind the circular markers with the snowflake hour hand, but agree square looks a little better. In no way a deal-breaker for me. The BB58 blue will likely be my everyday beater that I’ll keep in the collection for a long time. FWIW I didn’t consider the 58 for almost 4 years due to the hype. But every time I went to my AD, there it was screaming my name.

Great advice, young fella. I feel the same way. I'm old; but new to the watch-collecting hobby (started in '19). The Power of Suggesting is extremely influential. For a couple of years I really wanted a Rolex Explorer 39mm. After watching dozens of videos with wonderful those macro-shots, I was sold. I spent a few years debating on buying one on the gray market for 20% - 30% above MSRP. In the end, I couldn't do it. Recently, someone in my office wore his to work, and I got a chance to see one up close, in the metal. My thoughts? "Ehhhhh..." It looked much more plain than I thought. On wrist, it looked a little boring. And yes, I totally understood the austerity of the design. But for me, it turned out to be more unremarkable than I had anticipated. I am glad I didn't buy one; I would have regretted it.

I bought the black BB58 after owning the Explorer I and II for eight years. You’re spot on. The case wears 10/10 but the bracelet doesn’t have the same “flow” as the oyster. I don’t think it’s the rivets or rivet lines but the fact that the links are rectangular and not trapeze shaped and taper in “steps”. I tried the strapcode with the BB58 clasp and it almost did it but it’s thicker than the original and has long male links. Also, I would have liked contrast on the dial and the guild color is stealth in low light. I didn’t sell it, it’s still the best diver below 4K.

I historically loathe snowflake hands; I can't help but see the silhouette of a road sign. More recently, I've warmed up to snowflake hands, when matched with square or rectangular indices, like on the Pelagos; it just seems more cohesive to me rather than what I think of as a mismatching of diamonds/squares, triangles, rectangles and circles on most Tudor dials.

I really like the BB58 but after seeing it and having it in hand at a store I realized it wasn't really for me. I dislike the bezel grip feeling (bezel action itself is fantastic) the faux rivets throw me off since why would a luxury tool watch feel the need to fake something. The dimensions were fantastic especially the thickness but it lacked the t-fit system that almost every other Tudor I looked at in the store had. It's my opinion that at this price point I don't want to compromise. The Pelagos 39 on the other hand felt like it hit every mark that the BB58 missed for me, same with the Omega Seamaster 300 and the new BB41 Monochrome that said they are much larger, particularly thicker, watches which does affect the wear-ability a bit

Decided to get it and after a while the size feels perfect for my 6.5 bitch wrists. IMO you shouldn't buy a watch before trying it on at least once. I'm not sure why you'd buy it and then say "oh i hate the hands" cause you can see all that in pictures. I was trying the rolexes, but i feel the explorer/op design was a bit to dressy/plain and similar to other watches. Tempted by the subs, but the tudor bezels and dome look nicer, and less like a cheap fake if you get what I mean. I think all the clones have put me off them. 🤷‍♂

I loved all my tudors until I got the call from the AD saying my Rolex had arrived. As soon as I put that on my wrist I realised how unfinished the tudors felt. Sharp edges, clasp isn’t the best, quick adjustment. And all these things unfortunately made me sell all of my tudors. I am not saying they are bad watches, because for the price they are amazing watches. But once I had this watch on it was just a much better finish all round.

I got rid of my 39mm explorer after about a year because I wanted a watch and it always felt like jewelry. I agree with a couple things on the BB58, but I picked one up yesterday and I’m going to give it a shot. It seems to be more of the ethos I’m looking for. Also the “people only buy Tudor because they can’t afford Rolex” are smooth brained.

I had this watch and moved it on primarily as it didn't have a date , plus if you have to sell it to buy another, arguably do you really have the dispose income to buy a luxury watch ?but most people don't whom buy them myself included , even after staring at rolex on my wrist for a year I ended up selling it as I'd rather have the money. Rolex has got better bracelets and clasps but they're unobtainable and to buy one is an obnoxious unpleasant experience so you look at omega or tudor which I think often exist to fall back on. But omega are disappointing because of the HE valves or butterfly bracelet . I really missed having a date on a daily and then there's servicing costs. Apparently accuracy isn't the point of luxury watches ..hmm..but I value accuracy I realised, in the end after almost bankrupting myself through luxury watches on interest free credit I live within means I have now g shock and a few nice seikos less than 1k but still have to be mindful not to get sucked into luxury watch world ladder of madness , they do not change your life, and have less worries .

I wore a Rolex for 30 years. People started saying that you know I should get something bigger and newer so I looked at the Rolex prices and they were crazy. So I bought a Tudor and I kept looking at it and kept thinking it’s not a Rolex and ultimately end up selling it I didn’t want the baby brother. I now wear Omegas.

I'm not a fan of their blue. With having the blue Seamaster 300M, it would have gotten zero time. Now their 58 in black gilt? Yeah, that would get wrist time.

Mine did not even last that long before I sold it. Tudor suffers from the worst case of middle ground then any other watch and I believe that it is on purpose Aside from the Pelagos which I did own as well there is always something about Tudor watches that stops them from being superb, thickness, size, metal, clasp, they all have something that will have you thinking why is this is like this? I have come to the conclusion Rolex does this on purpose and maybe if you have never owned Rolex or even Omega its not a problem but if you have you know what I mean. IMHO

I like the open and honest style of your review. It’s also refreshing that you dont hold back from emotionally charged subjective views about the watch. I agree with everything you said and feel in general that Tudor watches lack excitement and long time motivation.Had a Pelagos and sold it - the hour markers back then were not nicely aligned (maybe tudor improved this later) but I realized only after the purchase. Continued to bother me,given it is Tudor.. years later decided to give it a chance, was looking for something in a more modest price range..bought a black bay 36 - beautiful watch but will be my last tudor. There is something in them which lacks long term motivation, some might call it boring..

great video. No, I sold my BB58 and to me it’s the epitome of a watch that gets so much right, that the things it gets wrong are deeply disappointing. First of all, that bracelet sucks. Also hated the green lume on a watch that doesn’t need green in its color scheme. That said, the case and it’s attention to detail plus the gilt dial were amazing, and I miss that.

The trouble with Tudor is Rolex is turning it into a homage retro Rolex brand. The 58 is Tudor’s masterpiece and the North Flag was the direction Tudor should have gone but they discontinued it. The new Black bay Pro is the last straw for me and I won’t buy a Tudor again. Lazy design too thick and clearly a homage describes too many Tudor’s now.

I just sold my BB58 Blue one month ago for some of the same reasons. And, to be honest, I have to attribute some of it to being caught up in the hype. That FOMO thing. But after having it for a year, and not wearing it much at all, I knew that I was bored by it and needed to move on. You are right about the bracelet thing...that bugged me too. But the thing that struck me again and again is that I really believe it's just boring. I've held it up against my Omega's and the one Rolex I have, some Ginault and a couple of Ball watches...and it just seemed blah. Now the specs are fantastic, and cannot be overlooked, but I guess the bottom line is that it just didn't click with me. And though I really, really wanted to have it be a keeper watch...it just wasn't.

Tudor doesnt do it for me. The snowflake hands and the many small shapes across the dials. If I get a Tudor, deep down I know rather get a Rolex instead. I bought this watch a couple of years ago I wanted a watch that I could wear everyday even at work “Im a carpenter” I also have a rolex datejust but I only wear it when going out for dinner or wedding’s “special occasions” I really believe that Tudor brand needs to step back from the David Beckham's and Lady Gagas and focus on being the working man’s Rolex again! That’s why I bought a Tudor and I thought and still do believe that the BB58 is their current and best watch. Especially if you like the smaller watch designs like myself the 58 reminds me of the the Rolex submariner that Steve McQueens wore with his blue t-shirt holding a coffee such a casual look but that man has class! I did sell my Tudor BB58 for a pelagos and regretted it straight away luckily the person I sold it to was a friend and I managed to buy it back after a month never selling it again! It’s got scratches and scuffs on it now and I love it! just looks fantastic! Real working man’s watch!
