A person who survived Columbine had spoken at my school. His sister was the first one to die. Her name was Rachel, and she was known to be one of the most positive human beings in the school. Before the day unfolded, he got into a fight with Rachel, and he wishes that he would’ve taken the blame during the argument. There are some other wild, crazy stuff that he said, but I feel like I’m boring you to the person reading this :,)

Not-so-fun fact: My best friend/Roommate’s girlfriend is a survivor of the Parkland shooting. I’d say her and I are pretty decent friends as well. She has massive PTSD from it. She said the bodies prevented folks from leaving through the conventional exit and the shooter used the fire alarm to draw students out. I was at the movies with some friends including her when someone pulled the fire alarm and we had to step out, she had a whole breakdown from it. My best friend had to console her for a while before she calmed down. Sad that even survivors have to battle the demons they never asked for

unfortunately, i know exactly how aaleya’s parents felt on that call. the same thing happened with my wife. i was at work and my wife called me which she doesn’t do unless she needs to so i answered it. Her voice was shaking and she told me she was in lockdown because there was a shooter at her work. she works at a boys and girls club. She was saying that she was didn’t have much time to talk or worry she had to save her kids. i told her i loved her and to keep them away from the doors and windows and then i heard a bang and the call dropped. I work in a rehabilitation center for brain injured individuals. i sprinted out of my work and up the stairs hysterical i was shaking and everything was running through my head. i told my coworkers to call my boss because i needed to go NOW. I got in my car and raced to her work and there were seven or so cop cars and cops with ar-15s. luckily they found the kid before anyone was hurt and my wife said the bang was a cabinet falling when they were moving it to block the door. and she doesnt know how to call failed. i will never forget that feeling and fear and how i felt like my world had just completely ended.

I go to MSD. They closed off the buildings and had an investigation. The kids were only in the auditorium, along with the cafeteria, away from where it took place. They didn't do school for the rest of most of the year. They came back to school and had half days on the days they went back. They went back so that they could be with each other, and be there for each other during those times. It was very sad.

People like to pretend evil doesn't exist, that it's all just a matter of "misunderstanding" that "bad guy." Then, they're shocked when it turns out that person really is an evil person, with true malice in their heart. Just because that person doesn't head some corporation you don't like doesn't mean he isn't capable of or isn't willing to do harm to others.

during a drill my 9th grade teacher told us all the flaws in the way our classroom was built as to where the shooter could enter and told us to know if we were to die to go down fighting. losing your life to injure the attacker could save the lives of others. she told us to use our bags as sheilds and was as straight forward and realistic as possible. kinda like trying to get us to understand how serious it was. edit: i really appreciated how she talked to us bc a lot of teachers pretend it will never happen and others downplay the seriousness.

This breaks my heart. I graduated university in 1999 and never feared this when going to school; but do as a parent now. I have PTSD from 9/11 attacks and know how it changes your life. They were kids, I was 22 at least when that happened at my work. They are all in my heart. The after effects of experiencing mass violence is wretched.

I hate these "realistic" school shooting drills. I remember when I was in first grade we stacked up all of the desks in front of the door. Me and my friend both had scissors hidden in our boots to use for self defense. We all huddled into the reading corner, my classmates were crying quietly holding onto each other. My teacher she was terrified shaking while hugging us all. Then the door knob started to twist and my teacher put her hand over her mouth tears steaming down her face not taking her eyes off the door. It was the police they said it was all a drill and laughed it off. I can't imagine experiencing an actual school shooting.

First grade. FIRST grade. These are literal children, some no more than 6 or 7 years old, having to accept the reality that not only are there monsters out there who would bring a weapon into a school and shoot people, but that it's a real threat to them, their classmates, and their teachers. I'm 16 years old in 10th grade currently, and I remember the shooter drills in elementary school, but they only started when I was in about 4th or 5th grade and could accept and understand that a bit more. It's so sad that now we have to educate even the youngest students about survival in what should be one of the safest places for a kid.

Sharing a personal story. I found the video to be truly beautiful and informative. Your conversations flowed so smoothly, and I gained much knowledge from it. Unfortunately, I recently experienced a false school shooting alarm. Even though it wasn't real, the sounds of the alarm, the sight of students running down the halls, my teacher telling us to run, and being the last one to leave my classroom made it feel real as anything. I know it may seem weird, but I have never been prepared to get hurt at school. It was really a wake-up call for me.

That is precisely. How school shooters come to exist. They're paid no mind throughout their childhood, even harmed by their parents or guardians. They're treated like trash. So they come to accept this as the norm. And they start coming up with their own little world or something similar. And this leads them to think of problems that they need to get rid of. And in some cases. That includes schools or even people. And then that's how shootings happen. Because they're neglected. And learn to be cruel from the examples their parents/guardians purposefully give them. And then for some reason the parents are surprised when their children shoot people. What morons.

I really resonate with not feeling safe in an environment that was made for safety. Thankfully, I have not been in any sort of school shooting, but my neighborhood is not the safest. There have been shootings in my neighborhood for years, whether it be down the street or a few blocks away. I even witnessed someone getting shot right across from my house. It's just the fear that you are no longer safe, the worry for the victim being someone you know, and grief for the families who have lost loved ones. All my love goes out to the grieving families, the people who lost friends, the teachers, the first responders, and to the people who passed on.

Bless these children and I pray for their healing to continue. As a mom who has lost a child ( not in a school shooting but it was sudden and violent ), the comments that really triggered it for me was the “ only one child” discussion…. How very true all of those words! One child IS too many, and it affects such a large group of people. My daughters death tore my immediate family apart, it devastated her large circle of friends, and friends of those friends who I didn’t know who were there to soothe their grief….. my extended family, my friends, colleagues, neighbors….and every one of those people who were affected had other people in their lives who THEY had affected. It’s like a giant snowball, the grief and bewilderment of why a child has to leave this earth so soon. It was difficult to talk to a lot of people who were parents; I could see in their eyes the fear, the absolute terror. This was too close for comfort, knowing someone whose kid had died. It made it too real, too much a reminder of how it could also be them tomorrow where they joined me on this godforsaken path. I myself had never let myself think that any of my 3 kids would die before me, I think I’d just never allowed that thought to enter my mind. I live in Canada and we don’t see the gun violence and deaths of kids as much as the USA but believe me we hurt so very bad for these kids, both the victims lost, their loved ones and all of the survivors. You have and always will be in my heart and in my thoughts. And I pray for gun control laws, this can’t keep happening…
