Cheap Apple Pencil Tips?! After I reviewed the Paperlike and Bellemond Paper iPad screen protectors I got a lot of questions asking if they increased Apple Pencil tip wear. I've been drawing with similar screen protectors for at least 5 years so I couldn't really remember how much of a difference it made. However, these questions got me thinking about the Apple Pencil Tips replacement packs and I wondered if there were alternatives. Sure enough, there were a bunch on Amazon for a lot less money. In this video I check out the Timovo Apple Pencil replacement tips and see how they compare to the Apple ones.

Thanks!! I was freaked out because the metal was showing at the end of my Apple Pencil and I didn’t want to pay a fortune to keep replacing the tips in the future! This was a really good video :)

Hey Chris, thank for the video! I have ordering those generic tips for a while now and they are great in my opinion. I also have the new PaperLike screen and I have noticed an improvement in the wear of the tips, they do not wear quickly as it did with the first version on PaperLike. May I ask, what brush were you using in this video? I am looking for a texture like that for a drawing that I am doing in Fresco. 😁

I just bought and returned a pack of replacement tips from Amazon because they did not work. I am sure a lot of them are fine, but there are some duds.

Ah yeah, the consistency does seem to be a bit hit or miss on some of the cheaper options.

Chris,...I would love to get your honest professional opinion about something. Let me clarify myself by saying I have never been an Apple "Fan boy" or fan for that matter by any stretch of the imagination. This doesn't mean that I love the PC side either as I have pulled my hair out with most of their devices along the way. My trouble or I guess I should say,...my reluctance in purchasing an iPad Pro comes down to two major challenges. First and foremost is the ridiculously small size of the 12.9" and the obvious limited real estate that I would have especially considering the size of my goliath hands. Combine that with the tiny bezel and now my hand is almost forcing me to work within about 50% of the already too small screen. This is maddening for me when considering most apps have tools and icons that already take up critical real estate on the GUI screen. To this point I would love to know if the constant enlarging and shrinking of the screen as you work doesn't drive your eyes and brain bonkers after a long illustration session? Secondly, I have heard about how cumbersome it is to save files on an iPad and how clunky it is to export and then access said files in the Apple ecosystem. Is there not a smooth way to simply save files to the hard drive or even an external drive or is it true that one must buy extra connectors and proprietary cables to do such a simple thing? Maybe the newer iPad Pros no longer have this issue? I'm not sure so that is why I'm asking. I'm not so sure I want to have to learn the Apple way of storing and retrieving files BUT.....might be willing to jump in if it was not as horrific as others have made it out to be. Of course even if I decided to purchase one,...I would probably do so in secrecy so as not to be looked at like another fanboy but I have tried the Apple Pencil out before and admittedly was quite impressed. I'm just held up by the small screen size though more than anything. Would love your thoughts.

As someone who came from a 27" Cintiq and also has rather large hands I don't find the ipad pro 12.9 to feel small. Before I had an ipad I had the 12" Cintiq for when I was traveling and I found that to be too small even though it was essentially the same size as the iPad. The reason for that is how natural and intuitive it is to move your artboard around and zoom in and out as needed. For a while I had both the large Cintiq and the iPad and I found myself always preferring to draw on the ipad. It just felt more natural and comfortable. Although I haven't found the size to be a big issue, I recently got the Sketchboard pro to use with my ipad and that makes it feel much bigger as my hand is no long resting on the screen. One other quick point, I also have an ipad mini that I regularly draw on and even that tiny one feels better than the 12" Cintiq did in terms of screen real estate. To your second point, I have no idea why anyone would think it's difficult to save files or access them. The ease of going back and forth and being able to easily access my files is one reason I love this setup so much. If you are working on a Window's computer it wouldn't be AS seemless, but if you are using Adobe Creative Cloud or something like Dropbox it would be pretty close. In regards to using an external drive you don't need extra or proprietary cables, the iPad Pro connects to standard USB C cables. Hope that helps!

@@chris-piascik Interesting points. Thank you. I may investigate this a bit more. Maybe if I can find an iPad Pro 12.9 that is about 1 year old (still able to use the newest pencil tech and with a 512GB internal drive and not insanely priced) it would be worth it to give it a test run. I will also look at that sketchboard.
