Today's Video is my recent thought process that happened while I was making Pt 2 of my Scrappy Patches: The NeedleBook
You may be surprised.
I was struggling with the last part, the insertion of the pages. You see I was struck with a new thought and I had to try it, but I was having an off day and things went south. It spiraled from there and I realized I had to share my struggles with you.
After all, my primary purpose for my channel is to show you that while you may be getting older you can still have purpose and be creative.
You can Age Gratefully and find joy in every day things.

Oh my gosh, I can so relate and am so glad that you shared this beautiful insight to your thoughts and feelings. I think it was serendipity that I just found your channel at the ripe age of 83 and struggling with similar feelings. I seem to want to create and learn more and more and am grateful that my hands and eyes are still able to do my quilting and slow stitching, sashiko, knitting and playing around with fabrics and threads. You have helped me open up about my struggles and I thank you.....

I am a 77 year old quilter and embroiderer. In my younger days I made my own garments, did crochet, and did smocking. I struggle some days too. Your stitches are exquisite - like my mom's handwork. My mom made her own clothing by hand as a girl and young woman (she could not afford a sewing machine at that time.) I lost her treadle Singer in Hurricane Katrina which was a heartbreak. I enjoy your videos and appreciate your sharing.

Oh that would break my heart too... My mom made me take sewing lessons when I was 11. I've sewn, knitted and crochet my whole life. My mom made over 5000 hats for the homeless the last years of her life and she lived to 98. Amazing woman. Thanks for being here! 🩷

I want to thank you for turning up on my computer every day, I, like you have the same diagnosis and find that when things get in my way and I get irritated I turn to sewing, gardening, quilting, crocheting or a mass cleaning, but I always find that someone is ready to criticise … it’s a shame their negativity is all they have to give I rather watch you now, you slow me down some what and I realise your voice has such a calming effect, it’s just like sitting with a friend sharing a cuppa I appreciate you every day and adore your stitching

Gratitude is indeed a great thing. Finding who you really are explains so much and aren't we fortunate to be creative makers! Just a little thing I have figured out, at 82 - don't laugh, but every time there is a full moon, my "peculiarity" goes on overdrive. It used to cause me a great deal of stress, now I am grateful for all of my interests to support me.

I believe your video went right to my heart. 59 years ago today my father died. I was alone in the house when I found him. My mom had died 8 months earlier. I had to do everything. I called our priest, our funeral director, our doctor, my married brothers, and the family members. They all came in and no one gave me hug or asked if I was ok. After all these years I don’t understand why it affected me so much today. To top it all off I had to make a million calls to get financial aid for my medications. I have APF where the lungs close slowly making it difficult to breathe. My assistance fund, which had been giving me free meds ran out of money so I had to find another place. Luckily I found a place that will give me my meds for $60 a month. Sure beats $3000 a month. I also take 12 more meds. I found your video today and I just felt so much better. I love that wall hanging behind you. I contacted the woman and asked about it but she didn’t remember which one it was Today she started one very similar and easy. Keep up the good work, you are such an inspiration. Sidebar-- I got to go and pee. lol. Hugs

Jeri, I am grateful for you and these vids that you share. I am turning 67 in a couple of days, I do a lot of different crafts, including mixed media, collage, knitting and the occasional sewing project. I was going into the nail salon yesterday for a pedicure as I am going on a trip this weekend. I absolutely could not find my words to say that I had an appointment for a pedicure and ended up gesturing to my feet. The receptionist thankfully figured out what I was attempting to communicate. So yes I identify with some of the struggles you describe. I am happy to watch your vids every week, your whole concept of aging gratefully and creatively is wonderful and I appreciate your encouraging words, let’s keep going and have a little chuckle at ourselves when we can 😊

Wow, Jeri, I just found your channel today and my heart is so warm from watching your kwandi quilting video and reading a few comments underneath it. I’m crazy about the way you’re sharing your process. It’s the way I think too and it was shocking to see a couple of the comments because I just didn’t understand why somebody would diss you for sharing your way of being. it’s clear that you’re not trying to be a buttoned up expert about anything that you’re creating and thank God for that. And thank you so much for just confessing your challenges in your video questioning if others struggle too. My brain didn’t used to work the way it works now either. I think if somebody was going to put a label on me, they would say I have late life adult onset adhd. I didn’t used to be the way I am now and your openhearted sharing inspires me and feels like a soothing stroke on my heart. I’m coming back to sewing after 40 years and I’m gonna do it entirely differently now than I used to. I’m sewing my realitytogether and anybody who doesn’t like the way I’m doing it can just walk on by. Thank you for your courage and the hard work it takes to make video.

I just found your videos a couple days ago and I am so grateful that I have! I turned 60 this year and it’s really thrown me into a spin. I had lost my creative mojo for a while because I thought that I didn’t matter anymore because I was old. You have inspired me you pick up a needle again! Thank you! I have days when my mind, my hands, my body doesn’t seem to want to do what I’m telling it to do. I’m trying to accept these changes with grace but damn it can be hard! And…sidebar (ha!)…I was diagnosed with ADHD about 5 years ago and everything about myself just seemed to click into place with that diagnosis! It all makes sense now! And I believe ADHD is the reason I can think outside the box and why I am a creative down to my very soul.

Thank you for sharing. I’m so grateful for you. I’m grateful that you articulate what I have difficulty articulating. I think I feel the way you do sometimes why you said it so very well said. Most days I wake up I’m happy try to find the joy. I dear sweet husband is older by a little bit and he’s a little bit crabby sometimes and we have a teenage granddaughter that lives with us, and sometimes they can both be very demanding, but I do love them both, even though I sometimes get overwhelmed by them. And I have to say I agree with you. I don’t know why so many people think that they have to share ill feelings rude remarks. Sorry if this isn’t coming up very well I’m using dictation because I have fumbling fingers. Thank you so very much and I’m so glad I watched this video and now I’ll watch the other video while I’m waiting for my granddaughter to get out of work that should be get off work, thank you dear sweet lady for your kindness. I can totally relate to your issues. I am in a period where I can hardly think at all I'm just so tired. I still want to stitch, but am too tired to even figure out what to stitch. I was so happy to find your channel. I can just do what you do, cuz you keep it fairly simple. I joined Marion from Marion's World for her 2024 stitchalong, but she VERY quickly got way past what I wanted to do. Then I found K3n and started with her current series, and have been enjoying it, but some weeks she does something I have no interest in doing. I am getting things ready to join with your series on different stitches, and am really looking forward to it. But instead of circles I am gonna do hexies. So you are definitely an inspiration to/for me, and I am very grateful for you and what you do. Thank you for all your encouragement.

I am 65 years old and live in New Zealand. For many years I would suffer from bouts of exhaustion where my memory would go on holiday, my weight would go down to the point I almost looked anorexic and my balance was completely shot. Every time I fell over and didn't hurt myself, was a good day. It took about 50 years before I found a doctor who looked a lot deeper into me and he discovered that all my problems were caused by a very dodgy thyroid. Through all this I have always done art and craft and at the end of the day it helped me keep my sanity. Personally I have no issues with your videos. They show a real person and in the world today that is a rarity. Keep on keeping on! Absolutely love your dots wall hanging.

I hear you about the challenges in aging. I will be 70 this year and noticed I have slowed down a lot. I am not as motivated to learn and try new things. I like to keep my crafting simple, not start complicated projects,, and I lose track of my supplies, or even what I have in my stash. Thank you for your videos. It is heartwarming to hear that I am not the only one confused, surprised and saddened about the changes that come with aging. In other videos you have mentioned Jude Hill and K3N. I love their work too.

Keep it as simple as you can. Most of my projects are easy, not overcomplicated, and use what you have on hand. Gather supplies and put them in a basket this way everything is ready when you sit down. Some evenings I'm just so overwhelmed from the day but I know if I just pick up the needle for a few minutes I'll feel better. Give it a try, please. Sending hugs, 💜 If you're not on my newsletter, please consider it. I'm going to have a few get-togethers on zoom.

Jeri, you're great. I love this video. Yes, I struggle finding words sometimes. I notice as I rewatch my videos before uploading, wondering how much I want to edit out, half a second here, 30 seconds there. But, I don't do it . Leaving it in, warts and all. I do have to say I have 12 years on you. I turned 80 last summer, and what I can say about that is that each day in every way I am more and more grateful for this life and my loving wife and for the time I have and for the art I make and the art that she makes -- and especially for the times when my own art pieces absolutely delight me. Aging gratefully. My mom seemed old at 80, but I don't feel how she seemed. Also, I do also have to say that I completely envied you your tiny stitches. I loved that video of the seven different ways of joining fabrics and saved it to my slow-stitching playlist. You keep rockin' it out, girl. I'm so glad you're making videos again. -- Barbara Clark

I recently started making junk journals and got back into sewing. That was my way to overcome a bad moment in my life. And it does help me. Sometimes, I create something really nice, and sometimes it doesn't come out right. But I get joy from the process, so I keep doing it. I said all that to explain how touched I felt by your words. So much that it made me emotional. Thank you for your videos. Thank you for the motivation. Thank you for the inspiration. ❤

You inspire me greatly, Jeri. I can’t believe some people are so rude. That’s interested to hear about your ADHD. I met my now husband when he was 43. After we’d been together for a few years, I suggested to him that he could have Asperger’s. Cut a long story short, he has and he has embraced. Giving it a label has helped our relationship - I can see where he’s coming from now. I can’t stick to one project for long- I call myself a creative butterfly! Flitting from one thing to another. You should see my craft room - it started with a sewing m/c and now I’ve got every creative product under the sun. Currently into card making and hand sewing (when I’m watching tv). I think we’re all on the spectrum in some way. Who decided what’s normal anyway??!!! I think you’re amazing - carry on sidebaring!!!! X

Oh Wendy, I could write you a book! Yes we need to know these things about ourselves, and also figure out how to live our best life and not be confined to the constraints of the labels. Looks like you figured that out and I'm so happy for you. You know (I have lots of these (different personalities lets call it) in our family. Along with them come so many wonderful qualities, like creativity, brilliance, sensitivities and so on... we are who we are. Lets just figure out to make our life work and be the best we can be. I'm so glad I found your channel. At 68, I can easily lose my train of thought, my mind wanders often and some days my tongue gets in my way when I search for a word. As creative and artistic people we have so many ideas running through our mind it's hard not to be a little scattered. Small stitches, large stitches, ugh who's to say what is the right size, as I see it if I am stitching it the stitch is the right size. I love the quote 'You do You' from Kathyrn from K3n.clothtales, those 3 short words speak volumes. I enjoyed the video in it's entirety, it was like sitting across from a friend and stitching and chatting together.

I’ve been watching your videos and I truly can relate. I am 74 and lost my last sister last month. I lost another sister back in 2018 and since her death, I have not been the same. My creativity has been on the back burner. During this same time period, my husband lost one sister and one brother. I’ve made a couple of quilts, and really struggle to get them completed. My favorite is English paper piecing and big stitch hand quilting. I love the slow hand work and the imperfections. I am going to try your dot a day, with my own spin to it. I collected a bunch of indigo dyed quilt fabric and would love to give this a try. Thank you for sharing your encouragement. Hugs ❤

I have just recently found your channel and find it very liberating. Yours reminds me of Jude hill. I was once told I wasn't making correct stitches that would never make it to a quilt convention. I told the ignoramous that I had no intentions of competing with anyone as I do that enough with myself. I'm getting better at not competing. I vowed not to go to another retreat nor will I join a guild. Too persnickety for my blood. I don't make many things but only for my grands and family who appreciate my thought and love for them. I have always said, I'm perfectly imperfect. I really like your work. People who make comments like tat are just plain rude and probably belong to the stitch (aka)quilt police. just block and delete.

I saw you for the first time today and enjoyed your topics, techniques and instructions. First let me say you look very lovely and “with it” in this intro, as well as years younger than you claim. Secondly, I empathize completely with you and respect your zest for life despite your fears for the future. I’m your fun house mirror image..creative, fabric lover, and diagnosed with ADD at age 50. Now I’m 72 and can see my decline more often, though I usually rally at times every day. Focusing is always easiest when sewing, planning projects, or writing stories. I admire how you kept your composure in the intro; I cried a bit for both of us. Also, Sidebar is the perfect interjection during your videos. I knew at once what you were doing and appreciated knowing something more was coming, I should just wait a bit and you would clarify. Finally, the dismal state of life today seems to give licence to cruel, unthinking comments from every strata. Are most people really kind? Maybe fewer❤ than we imagine. I think your stitches are the perfect size. Bless your heart.

Hi there, I’m almost 61 and live in the north-east of England. I came across your KZfaq videos from a lady who had been making spot bags And I’m wondering whether she got her inspiration from you. She mentioned your name on her KZfaq channel, and so therefore I thought I would take a look. I was amazed at all of your projects and lifestyle that you have. I have a small corner in my spare bedroom that I use for my crafting. I would love what you call a tiny house, and like you say in your videos you are so blessed and grateful for this. I love all of your up cycling projects, And I tried to do a little bit of up-cycling myself. There is a place in England called Kendall and it has a shop called CoolCrafting. I believe the owner is called Sarah Peel. She has the most amazing books called “Luna Lapin and friends “. She makes these characters, who all have their own clothes, and they are such a joy to make. 10:40 They are made from felt, And whilst they come in kit form, I like to use a Thrifted or charity shop wool coat. You get such a great results from this.Anyway, I just thought I would mention this as like you I get such great satisfaction from trying new things and it really does help with our mental health As we get older. I just wish the time would slow down a little it seems to pass so quickly these days. Keep going with your videos please, you really are an inspiration to us all. I love all your little stitches and tricks that you share with us. And I really want to give the spot quilt ago. I’ve got a few things on at the moment and once they are done I’m going to give it a try. So thank you so Much for sharing this with us. You are such a positive person I admire that in you as I’m sure so many other people on here do. When I’m in my little craft corner I now pop on your little videos, and listen to what you have to say whilst I’m doing my little bit of crafting. I live alone with my little Maltese dog, and Your videos keep me company whilst I stitch. So thank you for this. With every good wish. Christine

Jeri, I'm so glad you shared your thoughts and what you said really hit home with me. I don't have ADHD but I have auditory processing disorder, sensory issues and have struggled all my life including chronic health problems-lots of surgeries since the age of 4 and through my adulthood. There isnt a day that goes by I'm not in pain. I too get easily overwhelmed among other things. I'm in my late forties and I've noticed as I get older, things are reappearing I fought years to overcome or manage-if you will. I work hard to take it day by day, hour by hour. Art and creating has been a tremendous help in so many ways. I post videos on KZfaq of some of my creative endeavors and have gotten a few very unkind and rude comments from people. Especially about my talking-which I struggle with because of my APD. I wish people would be kinder to each other and be peaceful. This world needs it so much. Your kindness, videos, creativity, projects and everything you share are a blessing and I'm sure to so many feel the same way. I was thrilled to discover you and your channel. Thank you for all you do to bring joy and inspiration in so many lives. Hugs! ❤

@@JeriBellini Hi, Jeri! That is so cool! Thank you. They are a blast to make! I've got more videos coming up soon on more ideas how to make them. Also boxes and different shapes of vessels. I do a lot of stumpwork embroidery and terrain with embroidery and mixed media so I'm going to show how to incorporate that as well. I love making scrappy snippet rolls and a fellow stitcher and lovely lady Darlene Winter @DWinters58 here in KZfaq showed how she makes her snippet baskets by folding the snippets. I was inspired by that to come up with my scrappy snippet bowls, pots and boxes with lots of stitches and it grew from there. I recently was asked if I would make different shapes so that is on the list! Darlene explains how she makes hers on her channel at the request of a few of us last year in a stitch group we had together called The Ugly Stitch Club. She was so gracious to share her process. The gorgeous dot blocks you make has given me a idea that I was going to reach out to you about it soon and ask you what you think. I need to make it first and show you before anyone sees it. Lol I give credit where credit is due and your art is an inspiration and had me thing about a scrappy collage of sorts for making the dots-from a fabric master board. Still working it out in my head. So good to see your pretty face again after so long. I just found out you are making videos again. So happy to subscribe. I remember my grandmother and her quilting buddies and how important small stitches were to them. The more stitches in an inch the better. I remember when she got to where she could not make such small stitches anymore and how this affected her feelings about her capabilities as a quilter. So, it was very funny to me to hear that someone was complaining that your stitches are too small. LOL I also agree that while the "thing" makes some things harder it also brings ideas in abundance. My daughter also has this, but as you said it also makes her so creative, and she is amazing. Since I lost my husband, everything is a more of a struggle. I am still struggling to find my creative flow and right now even the time to try. Hannah is getting married and moving to NM in June, so between helping her with that and helping my parents as they are aging and have been needing quite a bit of help for about the last 6 months, I have been just in "get through the day" mode. Things are a bit easier now and I am hoping to start streaming and making videos regularly again. Creative endeavors have definitely taken a back seat to getting the necessary things done each day. You know how hard it is when your body won't let you do the things you need to do as easily or as fast as you would like. I am living there, but I am able with the Lords help to get the important things done to an acceptable level. Blessings my sweet friend.

Oh Lisa, I did not know you lost your husband, I am so very sorry for your loss. It is wonderful to hear from you and I am so happy to get this newsy note. Please do create as you are able, it has saved me in so many ways. I'm glad for your daughter, I do remember her being extremely creative! and also sad she will be moving away from you but maybe trips to visit will be super fun! I have to make time to visit my kids or I will never see them, they are so busy with all kinds of things. It is a blessing that they have full lives but we do miss being around them on a regular day to day basis. Yes, praising Jesus, for the strength to go on!!! Sending hugs... 🩵

Being 62 a ESP, ADHD, multi chronic diseases and addicted to the needle (and paint brushes, calligraphy, crazy quilt, etc) I struggle with my body disappointing me. With that being said, when I first found you a few weeks back - I knew I found an angel on earth. Thank you for being on KZfaq to bring joy, creativeness, a kind and gentle voice, etc. to listen to and watch. Anyone that could possibly bark on you in the comments for "short comings" is totally a very unhappy individual. Don't you worry Jeri about anything - you just keep on keeping on and your angels will be right with you on your shoulder as you go throughout your day doing the things that make you happy!!! x's lj

This was very inspiring. And aging gracefully is exactly what I’m trying to do - not always successfully, but I know how lucky and blessed I have been in my life, even when I struggle sometimes. And your thoughts and comments reminded me of many things that I sometimes forget. Thank you so much.

So about those people that leave rude comments. Just pretend they’re an elderly auntie that said that to you in person. I had several aunties that were just crotchety old busybodies. When they would criticize me I would say Oh, ok… and wait for their back to turn to roll my eyes and do it my way. Usually people that leave negative comments are not your tribe. Just roll your eyes and go on.

Just found your channel. And I’m 62. My daughter also told me I have ADHD and as you stated your symptoms of ADHD, I am the same. I get frustrated with myself when I feel overwhelmed and struggle with managing my thoughts. I also didn’t know until recently. I stopped all processed sugar and I think that is helping in more ways than just ADHD. I also started a KZfaq channel a few months ago, My Cozy Retirement, and I love it but wow learning curve for tech stuff. I am retired now. I have my degree in Social work as a therapist 😊.

Okay I have to stop your video and comment before I forget what I needed to say and then I will continue on watching. First of all thank you so much because to those of us who are aging we are just now noticing and realizing things about ourselves that we wish we would have noticed years ago. This community is truly in this together and I appreciate it. Also I see you as inspiration not as someone I need to follow exactly but someone to get the idea from so that my own creative juices can flow. Saying that your stitches are too small it's just flat critical. Small stitches are your thing if it's not someone else's thing then they need to do what makes them feel good period, End of story.
