I remember seeing her on TV at the mansion and just being impressed with her intelligence. She seemed too smart and classy for that environment. I’m glad she reinvented herself out of it.

I don’t see any reinvention? Everything she’s doing is about Playboy still, 17 years later. We still see the same misogynistic behavior towards other women, and reinforcement of the same beauty standards. On her pod, she talks about all the plastic surgery she gets, always anti aging treatments as if it’s unthinkable for a woman to age naturally, and how Holly’s always on restricted diets like keto. She went on tangents how she does laser treatments, really wanted “hand rejuvenation” injections next, and did in-office cellulite treatments recently. It is fine if you wanna do plastic surgery more power to you, ….but it isn’t a reinvention. It’s the same misogyny as Playboy. It’s what she promotes. Even quite literally, as Holly’s podcast is sponsored in part by SomoBello liposuction company. Listeners get to hear it all being promoted. I’d like to see some more growth. Hef was a bad guy, we all feel her on that. But show us how you’re different.

It sounds like Hef picked “small town girls” because he knew they’d be far from home, face increased shame if they went home, and he could keep them isolated and dependent. That he blocked them from therapy and sent them to a pre-approved person who would support their dependence is so abusive.

Step one, isolate Step two, alienate from friends and fam Step three, take financial control Step four, prevent victim from working if you're living with them ,you're really screwed.... I've been there. A lot of abusers, go for women who have been previously assaulted or grew up in an abusive household. They look for women who might be struggling with addiction, or just their own demons. Hugh Hefner definitely fits this mo. He was feeding girls drugs for God sakes. He gave them an allowance, but it's never enough to actually do anything with such as go back to school or start a business. It's all manipulation, the money is just to make you believe that you're free. I'm so proud of Holly for doing this interview 💯 And I'm definitely going to be analyzing it on my channel❤

@@JHall8888 left how ? With what money ? If I’m not mistaken, even the car that she drove, was Hughes…. So in what car was,she supposed to get in and leave? Also , where was she to go? (Some people like myself, have zero living family) What if ,her family wasn’t able to have her back in the home. It’s not as easy as just packing your things and leaving 😅(I wish it were) I know personally, I stayed because I had money tied up in business dealings with my abuser. Not only that , after almost 20 years, he was the only family I felt like I had. Because I had been brainwashed! In a codependent relationship🙄 And I never dated the man 💯 Abuse comes in so many forms. I’m glad holly escaped and is flourishing♥️

I got to meet Holly about 10 years ago, it was a brief encounter at a friends house. She was the sweetest most genuine and gracious person and I am so happy to see her growing success. She is a kind soul and I believe truly deserves it. 😃💗

That's so sad and quite awful... We had a friend/roommate that was a playmate and she said he was just old and creepy. She also said that the mansion wasn't as awesome as everyone thought. At least not the house that she got to stay in with all the girls. She said that part was old. I thought that was interesting to hear from a person in real life.

People who never experienced manipulation on this level, will never understand how difficult it is to break from it. I guess this is the best podcast to litterally break it down to understand how this whole process can simply devour you and your personality. Leaving abuse behind you is just a first (crutial) step and healing is journey has many bends and bumps but its so worth it to find your true self during it. Massive thanks to Holly to keep going and just showing how you can set yourself free 💗 Also (again) breaking from an image of autistic person as we were shown for year on the media. There is a reason who its called a spectrum. Can you be proud of someone who you never met in person and probably never will? I guess you can 💪🏻

Hefner's Playboy mag (and other media) was NEVER about empowering women. It's first and only goal was the sexual gratification of men. His mag would adapt itself to the current culture only to provide men with advice on how to get laid, what they had to wear and say to entice women. Any attempt to notice women's rights was with the angle of placating them to get sex. I never saw women modeling for Playboy, or working in the club as empowering or embracing their sexuality. It was always coercive in my view. I know there are some who disagree, and I fail to understand how they can delude themselves into thinking that way.

Absolutely agree. I don't recall the models having their younger selves photos in the magazine. My father left mags everyone and I read a few but my point is as a woman in her forties, three kids and married, Im thoroughly grossed out by the younger pics being apart of it. Like fantasizing about the girls prepubescent.. 😳 I always found playboy and hustler grotesque.

I can see how the term "empowering" can be applicable to young women who feel "empowered" in so far that their beauty allows them to manipulate men or make easy money. Girls I have known that were strippers felt "in charge" of their own finances by making way more money than they could any other way, being young with no real world work experience. Same can be said of any only fans girl in today's world that makes money from providing that sort of content. Is this healthy? Probably not, but "empowered" for young beautiful women who are just starting to see how their looks can influence those around them and provide opportunity that others can't get is a real thing. The delusion in those young women, is thinking that that way of living will last forever. When developing an actual skill-set and personality will serve them in the long run.

Love Holly always have. I never judged her before, during or after the mansion. I think she was the main fan favorite. Her journey is unbelievable. I’ve always been proud of her for leaving the mansion bc she was too good for gross Hefner. We have all been in bad relationships. I loved when her book came out and bought it. I hadn’t read a book since childhood. I’m happy she seems styled and has two children. I’ll always want to see what she’s up to. Hope she finds her full happiness. She has always deserved it❤️💯🙏🏼😊

I would like $5 for every time Mayim said “ you know” though, I think Mayim was a bit uncomfortable, thus that over used term. Doesn’t matter much because Holly was so unflappable. @MayimBialik you seem kimd hearted and intelligent but I think you came across quite judgemental and somewhat ignor*nt in this interview, things like how the playboy industry being "predicated on suspension of disbelief" and how essentially s*xu*l liberation is merely a fantasy and everyone who is unhappy etc .. and comparing posing n*de to basically 'cornography'. Firstly as much as I agree mass produced 'corn' is harmful to EVEYONE but posing n*de on its own without any kind of suggestive imagery or actual s*xu*l acts then it's not 'corn' wether people use it as that or not , the imagery itself is not. Secondly not everyone in polyamorous relationship is unhappy with it or in a ab*sive one like Holly nor are people who have more open relationship or are single and only have 'casual' relationships, some people enjoy it and are very happy. Secondly it's very ign*rant to just to take away from people that are s*xual liberated to deny them of that title and treat them as a puppet for the male gaze for the patriarchy. Yes these industries and lifestyles were founded and benefit men but its also greatly benefits women. Not everyone is as privileged as ypu to come from her financial and educational background, if someone isn't being taking advantage and freely choose to make money using their 'femininity' to appeal to male gaze to become successful then to me the joke is on the men, I see it as taking back contr*l of your own s*xual*ty and belive its very powerful and we are in nature sensual beings so who is anyone to act like expressing that is unnatural. There are people who have casual relationships, or are more open who are extraordinarily happy and feel strong, smart, successful and empowered who is anyone to tell them they are not. Essentially do you want women to be free and empowered or is it that you want you want them TO BE LIKE YOU, because that's not freedom. What you think is wrong or right isn't cannon, no one's opinion is, we all have our own opinions of good bad and right and wrong, for anyone to be so sure that what they believe MUST be correct is just narciss*st*c in my opinion. Or at least the act is. Ultimately as humans in this big universe, we know nothing, so let's not judge people different from us. Different isn't bad.

I suppose there are a select few who don't feel exploited in some of these situations, but unfortunately most are indeed being used and exploited. Please don't discount that. There are way too many people trapped in situations they did not choose or were predisposed to gravitate toward that are extremely harmful and dangerous and abusive to them, if only on an emotional, mental and spiritual level.

Some people just want to belong to a group they think will help explain themselves. Like finding your tribe as an adolescent. The problem with some of these spectrums and diagnosis by exclusion is they end up being wrong by describing virtually every human on the planet. No way Holly actually is autistic. Sorry, not sorry. Anyone can give you the diagnosis that you want to hear. As smart and educated as Mayim is, she still subscribes to misogynistic standards for women informed by patriarchy.

It’s surprises me how much I relate to Holly. I hid under extra clothes when I was younger and was not ever in a non monogamous relationship (well, I was cheated on in past relationships). However, I still grew to have such similar ideas as Holly. The be careful of lovebombing thing has been my advice to others for over a decade except I didn’t use the term but just explained the sentiment/experience. It was my advice for those being lovebombed and those doing the lovebombing in the beginning of a relationship. I’d remind the love bomber to to ask themselves if it was love or infatuation. I’d ask them to if they were in love with the person or the idea of the person. I’d remind them that the person is a human being and be careful not to put them too high up on a pedestal because then they’ll just fall down.

Thank you for holding space for Holly! She is so amazing and creative and smart. Her self awareness and getting diagnosed is such a stellar example for so many to be mindful of ones self. She also loves Disney which makes her extra cool! I know people love to discredit her because of how long she was at the mansion and to that I would say, I hope they remember this is her valid experience and none of us were there. I hope she keeps producing and making amazing shows! The stories she has brought to light have been so heartbreaking and give the victims a voice!! She's stellar.

I watched Girls Next Door cause I wondered how people who had everything spent their time. Thank you for discussing the reality of everything, I respect Holly Madison so much more now. Can people in these comments stop comparing her to other women who have worked in "that world"? All of these comments of "I always thought she was smarter/classier than other girls in that environment/ line of work" like really do you hear yourself putting these women down? As if a woman has to be classy or smart to be deserving of respect. She's a person no matter if she does sex work or is a lawyer. Like listen to Holly talking about the other girls, you think she looks down on them, she's describing how the industry abuses women and makes them do things they might not want to do. Holly is an example of why all women deserve respect. Listen to her

YES!! Sex work and those who participate are vulnerable to being othered and categorized as some exotic species. Some of the "im so baffled, bemused and intrigued.." vibes can get a little much. And the "you're so well spoken" part is right there with that. It doesn't seem Holly took offense and I'm glad for that, but it's something to watch for.

As a late diagnosed adult, I also found comfort in the script of waiting tables. Having a clear pattern of expectations for social situations is very comforting and also helped me build confidence.

I noticed something in the first 2 minutes. I am on the spectrum, diagnosed in my 40’s. I notice her blinking and the eye closing when she discusses things that are emotionally charged, my doctor pointed that out with me. I do it any time I’m uncomfortable and can’t look people on the eye, it physically is uncomfortable and a trait many on 5:30 the spectrum share. I’m proud of her for being vulnerable and speaking out ❤

This was a great podcast. I remember seeing the show and not thinking much of any of the girls, but this interview was so enlightening. Holly seems very grounded and in such a good place. She is very well spoken and successful. Just loved seeing this other side, human side of it all, so much more relatable. Mayim did a great job at being respectful in asking the questions we all were curious about. Everyone has a story, some not so great even when they seem perfect. I was curious if she was in contact with the other two girls from the show. I was happy to see Kendra growing and having a family….sad she had struggles as well. Mental health is so important and I appreciate anyone who can educate and provide support others experiencing the same struggles. I’m 50 and my vision board is in my head and heart…..some things are better kept private. I had to google love bomb…..lol….. love is love…..being confident in yourself and being patient are critical in fostering healthy connections.

Don't know if you've ever seen that movie The Secret...but it's kind of the same concept. Strangely Law of Attraction thing kind of works...in a way that's a little creepy. Then there's always the concept of 'be careful what you wish for' thing to think about.

I loved this so much. I used to watch The Girls Next Door and just felt so bad for the girls, they always seemed so sad. It’s so interesting to hear the backstory of someone who seemed so much larger than life. And Holly is so well spoken and fun to listen to❤

First time listening to your PC, and thanks for treating Holly respectfully. Some other pod casters that I've heard speak about The Girls Next Door really in a disparaging way. Being a woman myself, I loved watching that show, regardless of how it may have been perceived. Always entertaining and also eye opening. Thanks for a great show and now I am now a subscriber. And thank you Mayim for loving animals enough to respect their lives. I wish more were less animal lovers but actually LOVED all animals, not just dogs & cats.

I wish she would have gotten more into the misogyny, power and control side of Hefner. I was not sad when he died. I was not happy. I was sickened thinking of how he manipulated, used, and objectified SO many women over the course of his life and how Americans allowed it to become normalized. Idk, maybe she couldn't talk about it for legal reasons. Seems like both of you were choosing your words very carefully.

I did a vision board once w/"the job of my dreams on it." Only to land that job some years later. The reality was the job was a nightmare, the people were crazy and it only looked good on paper!

I only wish I could have heard this story before I married my second husband. Holly’s story is so informative and gives telling red flags to look for. I was so clueless to what “love bombing” is! Everything in this interview is important to all women and men.

Another great episode. I'm glad Holly found the courage to tell her truth. On a side note we can start a drinking game....take a shot every time Mayim says "I'm curious" and you will be bombed by the end of each podcast 🥃 The producer should put together a montage of Mayim saying "I'm curious" and air it on a podcast about verbal repetition
