After weeks of training, the competition was finally here! I swam at the 2024 World Aquatics Masters Championships in Doha, Qatar! It was a pleasure chatting with so many fellow swimmers coming from all over the world at the event. It was truly a life changing experience. Looks amazing! I've looked into going but it'll have to wait until my kid is older. I was surprised to see that the qualifying times are slower than the qualifying times for USMS nationals. Counterintuitive.

Perfect video, it has an amazing vibes. One question: how is the time system works? For me this is a new thing that the finish line inspectors have a stopwatch and a joystick with a button. The wall is the official time? 2nd is the button (this is quick) and then the stopwatch (slower to collect data)????

Thank you! This event uses touchpads for official times. No stopwatch times. All data is captured and shared digitally!

Sure looks like it, thanks for sharing the experience. I'm an 50+ master swimmer and was rather surprised with the required times in my age category. I will probably have to interface with my national swim board for some admin but look forward try to visit a Worlds. Maybe the 2026 when they allow me into the 55+ :) @@FaresKsebati

Placement results, from the website official PDFs - in all three events, age category 30-34 (10 lane pool, lanes 0-9): 100 BR 8th (2nd in heat) 50 BR 6th (1st in heat) 50 FR 25th (8th in heat) AFAICT, he beat people in faster seeded heats in all three cases. Won his heat in the 50 BR. The 50 FR had the most overlap in finish times between heats. Congrats, Fares, looks like you had a ton of fun, and performed well, especially on the things you trained for. (Oh and did EVERYONE swim the 50 FR? 54 heats!)

Just keep swimming and you'd be amazed what you can do. I was 30 seconds in the 50 freestyle when I was 15. By the time I was 19 or 20 years old I got down to 25 seconds. You can do it!
