I'm in the process of building a similar system, just with a 12700k instead of the 900. Might want to look into the bracket mod for cooling that 12900k as it has been shown to make a decent difference. Congrats on the new system, gettin everything moved over is always a pain but new PC smell is so good!

Regarding the cooling, Gamer's Nexus just put out content explaining how Intel didn't do a great job with the mounting bracket for the cpu. Take a look at it dropped the temp by at least 7 degrees, while I would not replace it I'm not using my pc to make my living and I would not have bought that cpu since it would be out of my price range and would be overkill for my use. These cpu's do run hot

You should switch out the mounting bracket on the 12900K to the aftermarket one. Any of the 3 that Gamer's Nexus used would make a difference in the longevity and the cooler performance. You will need a 360 AIO to cool that CPU also. The ID-COOLING is great for most CPU's but the only recommendation is to use different fans. Someone did a test on here using that AIO and the most expensive AIO. You can buy the 360 ID-COOLING and slap on some good fans to really have a great AIO. The temperature difference from the most expensive with the cheapest ( ID-COOLING) with different fans was roughly 4-6C. That really isn't terrible for the price of the AIO and I think with the right mounting pressure / high end thermal paste the difference would be between 2-4C.

The thermal grizzly cpu mounting bracket and a 360mm AIO is needed for the i9 12900k to prevent thermal throttling. The bad thing about 12th gen intel cpu's is the default intel mounting bracket applies uneven pressure on the cpu's

Swapped from a 5800x to a 12600k, temps went down by a good margin and my fps slightly rose (at 4k). Also, I greatly prefer the LGA mounting system over PGA, and the built in iGPU is pretty useful. All in, I’m happy with my switch.

Nice pc, I definitely would have bought a 360 aio for that 12th gen. I just built a 12900k pc in the 011d xl case. Used the asus rog strix z690e gaming mb with corsair dom plat ddr5 64gb ram. Using a ftw3 3080ti and evga 1000w p2 psu. Included 10 lian li SL120 unifans and the V2 strimers. I chose the MSI meg S360 aio with the thermalright anti bend cpu frame. Just about to fire it up, psyched! Thanks for sharing 👍! It looks great and performs very well!! The msi meg s360, nzxt z73 and corsair elite capilex are all excellent aios that can cool the 12900k well, in the 360 variant of course.!

Hey Matt for a future cooler I'd reccomend phanteks 280mm mp or mph (h standing for an rgb halo for the fans) I did buy their 360mm mph version just a few days ago because Jaze Two cents did tell me about it in a video and its performance. I can imagine their 280 and 240mm aio's cool just as well! (Just a side note, since you are running a 12900k and it is stupid hot, I'd reccomend the 360 if you can fit it anywhere in your case (not the bottom or risk damaging it) but if not go with the 280 because I believe you can fit one in there!

I personally have a Ryzen 5 3600 and an RX 5500XT and they are both excellent for my use case. Light 1080p gaming with multimonitor support for school. I don't think I'm going to upgrade soon because it is not practical to me. Loved the themed build though, I myself am trying to go all white but it is expensive. That white version tax is pretty steep at times, especially with GPUs.

I also would have gone with the water cooler 3 for the top and just had 2 more intakes from the side. I think the case is designed for a reservoir water tube to be blowed on from the side. or like those liquid kits that have a flat glass sheet where you can see the glass. but those get expensive. You'd prob bring cpu temps down massively with a top 3 fan water cooler blowing out. like i was saying and turn the two fans on the side to intake.

There is no tower-cooler that could handle the 12900K. It requires at least an 280mm liquid-cooler to not thermal throttle. 420mm largely recommended, better yet an custom loop. Something like EK-AIO or ALphacool Eisbaer are the best ones. Strong and reliable pumps with good contact for Intel. Arctic Liquid Freezer II work as well but as their cold plate is contoured for AMD Ryzen IHS, they do not have optimal coverage. You may also want to consider the cpu mounting/lock mechanism mod as pointed out by Greg Howe here on comments.

Definitely would've been even better to go with a 5800X3D over that i9 12900K. Power consumption will be lower and performance will be higher. 12th generation CPUs pull way too much power which is why they overheat so quickly. It's been a problem since 9th gen. (Owner of a 9900K often at 100c)

@@TheBURBAN111 Yeah I've got a bad cooler, after replacing my Noctua NH-D15 with a Corsair H100i and still getting the same temps. I've already asked other owners of the 9900K and we all say the same thing. The chip is a furnace. It runs like hot garbage and it throws power efficiency out of the window for maximum speed and heat. My CPU happily pulls over 130 watts of power whilst gaming, not even at full load where it will reach way over 200 watts. These are at stock settings by the way. As regards to the multicore performance of the 12900k vs the 5800X3D, you're right they trade blows. However the 5800X3D uses a LOT less power than the 12900K and considering we live in a energy crisis right now? That's the clear winner in my opinion. 95% of the performance for 50% of the power bill.
