In today's video, I put the best-selling Mini Chainsaw on Amazon to the ultimate test. I'll be testing its cutting power, maneuverability, durability, battery quality and overall performance to determine whether it's worth your hard-earned money.

I have purchased and used a six and eight inch mini chainsaws. The six inch one didn't have automatic oiling, so I oiled the chain every time I changed the battery, which wa s about twenty minutes. It lasted about eleven months before the chain cover/guard desintegrated where you tighten the nut that secures the bar. The eight inch one, although it had an oil system that you had to pump to oil the chain (they called it automatic), only lasted a month. Based on my experience, I can only say that these mini chainsaws are designed for light work around the house. Unless the manufacturers take the time to make serious improvements, they won't take the place of a name brand or proven gas chainsaw.

You make a good point which I didn’t raise in my comment above. Yes, these are for light use only. I tried cutting a lot of firewood (3-4” thickness) and while the saw performed the cuts perfectly, continuous use made the thermal protection cut out and it was a very stop-start operation. For these kinds of uses, a petrol chainsaw is the proper tool. If you think of the small cordless saw as an alternative to a pruning saw, you’d be about right. Light use, where the timber isn’t too big and the job isn’t too long. But it wins hands-down over a petrol saw if accessibility is an issue, such as trimming dense shrubs.

its all about the price point....i love mine $35 with battery online marketplace the best tool purchase i ever had...used a small file to sharpen the blades so many times now about a dozen times and still cuts sharp....no major brand name could match the price point for what it is...None...and plus the fact mine is Makita compatible could use my makita batteries..and plus the fact that all Major brand name saws are also MADE IN CHINA...

These mini chainsaws are marketed as pruning saws pruning generally referrers to branches under 2in although these saws will saw through logs the length of the bar this is not there intended purpose nor are they designed for continuous use over long periods of time aney one who thinks they are is foolish I paid 30 bucks for mine on Amazon with "automatic oiler" this is about 100 dollars cheaper than a De Walt and about 200 bucks cheaper than a Milwaukee I use it for firewood and tree trimming in the summer months and it serves me well and when it goes bad I'll get another one at 30 bucks it could almost be considered disposable if you spend a lot of time with landscaping and tree work on your property or you are a lumberjack these saws are not for you but for the average homeowner who needs to trim some downed branches a couple times a year or cut some over length fire wood occasionally these saws are perfect if you expect Lamborghini performance from a Hyundai that's on you not the manufacturer if you want top performance then you'll have to spend top dollar so just get the red yellow or blue one and never look back instead of trying to cheap out for 30 to 50 bucks

I have a similar Chinese saw with 6” bar. It’s a very handy tool and I’m glad I got it. A shoulder injury means I can’t work with a normal chainsaw above about waist height, but I can use the 6” one-handed no problem. A couple of observations: it’s lightweight, which means it’s far more grabby than a heavier petrol chainsaw. If you’re not careful it can bounce all over the place, especially on small stuff. Follow the usual power tool rule, and ensure it’s running at full speed before bringing it into contact with the work. It’s not an intimidating piece of kit, but remain vigilant. I got tired and a bit lazy at the end of a session cutting firewood, and let it too close to my other hand, and it took a chunk out of my little finger (all healed now, thanks). I’ve used 14” and 20” bar petrol saws for 30 years without any injury whatever. Go figure. Have to say I thought you let the tool get rather too close to your legs when you were kneeling down around 4:30. It’s small and light but needs treating with the same respect you’d use for a big petrol saw. You don’t need the full chaps and helmet rig, but I would say gloves and eye protection were a minimum. These are just my thoughts. Nice video, thankfully free of nonsense, and very helpful to anyone thinking of getting one of these very useful tools.

I just bought the Ryobi 18 volt brushless "pruner." 6" bar. Used both a 2 and 4 amp battery while testing it. Used it for more then just pruning to see what it could do. Oil free design for bar and can adjust chain tension without any tools. Has its limitations, but its weight and slim profile make it easy to operate one handed. Won't replace my chainsaws, but a useful tool for certain applications.

I have a similar mini chainsaw. The battery lasts about 10 min of continuous use. But in that time I can cut about 3 15liter buckets (about 10 gallons total) of hardwood firewood so it's amazing and ofc the effort is minimal compared to manually doing it or brining my full size electric chainsaw. Plus I can just hold the wood in one hand and the chainsaw in the other. It's nowhere close for continuous use. it heats up quickly and it's definitely not good to cut for long. But for occasional use it does a lot.

I purchased one of these 6” Chain Saws from Amazon back in November of 2022. Looks almost exactly like this one in the Video but mine is all black with a Black Molded Case very similar to the one in the video. I plan to use it for the first time this week of May 6th 2024. The first thing I did when I got it was I charged the batteries. Well today over a year and a half later I opened the case to see if the batteries needed a charge. Right away the Red light came on the charger and they took a little better than 1 hour to charge them up again one at a time. Anyway from having full size gas chains saws I adjusted the chain to what I thought would be just right being I thought the chain was on too tight that I couldn’t slide the chain along the Bar. I am curious to what everyone is using for bar and chain lube? This bar oil Amazon sells is expensive but I guess all oil is expensive today. I always just used a 20 or 30W Non Detergent oil on my chainsaws since the 1980’s and I never wore a bar out. I am also hearing that Canola oil can be used on this 6” bar. I am asking because I have both Canola oil and 30W Petroleum oil non detergent around. Believe it or not I use the canola oil on my paper shredder and it works great keeping those blades clean and sharp. Just curious to others thoughts on the chain and bar lube.

I use bar and chain oil designed for chainsaws. It not only thick (heavy weight) but it's also sticky so it stays on the chain longer. You can find bar and chain oil at any hardware store or home improvement center.

I don't even know if there was oil in it. I have a big jug of chain oil and put some in a Zep plastic spray bottle sold at Lowes. The oil sprays out fine with no waste. Or you can pour it on the chain but that is wasteful if you're not careful because too much will come out sometimes. I'd recommend applying oil every few minutes and sooner if you're cutting thick limbs. The more the better. Make sure you get plenty in the blade groove the chain slides in. @@TheHmurveit

Stihl was over 200$ so I guess I was aming for the maximum bang for my buck :) The 4" chinese local brand have 3 y guarantee on the motor and 1 on the battery. Extra blade with chain is 9$ for it. Already cut some branches, I am happy. Can cut arm size branch with no problem, but still kinda thinking of that Bosch 6" with 2,5 AH 20V battery for 145$ maybe that was the best deal. Sounds like it's cutting out on overload. Check to make sure the chain spins freely with your hand with no battery installed. If it doesn't then maybe theirs some hardened up debris near the sprocket. Otherwise I would look the warranty..

No I don’t think so. It’s a small saw but it can be dangerous like any other chain saw. I was using it again yesterday and I was thinking I need to be aware of my other hand so I don’t hurt myself.

My buddy and I went to collect firewood, he with the Amazon mini saw, me with my Ryobi 18v chain saw. I can honestly say the Ryobi out cuts the Amazon mini by 3 to 1, and Ryobi cuts bigger logs much faster.

I have the Ryobi pole saw and other tools on the platform and they work great. Of course a chainsaw will out cut a mini chainsaw no matter what brand you use. These little saw work great for what they are and what they cost. They are not good for cutting firewood.

These little saws have an overload installed to help prevent failure from over working or over loading the motor. It sounds like yours is failed or failing. We have a ton of trees and limbs down from a spring snow storm. I used mine to cut up branches for a huge burn pile today. Its really handy for that..

I bought a different brand for $100. It worked for three one hour projects then died and would not run at all. It also constantly needed the chain re-tightened which seems quite dangerous. Some products may be better quality and I would get the next size up the next time.

I tried mine for the first time today. No complaints about the cutting, but being weak in my hands ( 72 and not use to it) I would stall it. Normally, that would not be a problem. Just restart it, right? Not if you're left handed. I had to place my right hand over the handle and push the starter whi!e using the left hand for the trigger. Am I missing something?

With no built-in oiler, how often should you re-oil the chain?
@BackyardMaine
@BackyardMaine 5 ай бұрын
If you're just cutting limbs you can probably cut 20 -30 before it needs a few more drops. If you're cutting bigger stuff like three or four inches in diameter then maybe after about ten cuts. I just stick the bottle in my pocket. The good part of having no oiler is its not leaking out when its stored in the case.

Good tool, but interesting how to work out how much oil to use and when. It is so small and light I can see people chopping bits off themselves by being careless and not taking it seriously as you might with a bigger item. Can you get spare chains? If not, then the temptation for low skilled folks will to keep using the saw with a badly worn blade, leading to potential for getting frustrated and doing dangerous things. Great video.
