Well Done ! Im in England , just bought the crustys , rustys R1200C ive ever seen , from a dealer , from just pictures , non runner , stood for 10years at least in a very leaky garage , paid £1500 including delivery from 100 miles away , needs fork stanchions as there badly corroded , tank will probably be scrap , engine may even be siezed , clutch , brakes , CANT WAIT ! the only benefit to the bike is genuine low mileage 5500 miles ,and thank fully alloy wheels , so no rusty rims which they all suffer from , I do like the spoked rims , but a pain to clean and mega expensive to refurb , even if you can find some one as they hate the siezed spokes , , you have the benefit of better spares availability in the USA , nice ones sell over here for up to £7000 , with low mileage , Have a great time doing your bike , its a lot lot better than mine , dont worry yourself about if youve overpaid , its a fantastic hobby , and compared to what some people will spend on fishing equipment , bicycle parts ,GUNS (in your country) , motorhomes , etc its a bargain , will be interested to see your progress , thanks Nigel

They're simpler than a modern automobile, but a BMW is a high tech machine. It's not a dirt bike from 1978.

Three grand is a lot of money for a bike in this condition . If you took it to a BMW shop then I know you paid way to much . If you do all the work and parts your self you may even have way to much also . I think if you really wanted one of these bikes a BMW R1200c then it's not going to be a bagan at all even if she gave you the bike just because to get it back mint is going to get you into about 3 grand . So here is a short list . Tank $600 , Tires $300 or a bit more , Rims both will run about $600 , replacing crome extras $300 . All fluid changes will run $200 , Hoses $150 , All new brake lines and clutch lines $400 , Electrical wiring shealding about $30 . All new filters $70 , Then everything I missed $200 . Total $2850 . That is if your lucky . I would think adding another $600 for unseen things . Now with just that $3450.00 Now these bikes sells between $4900 and $6000 in good running order and with miles between 7,000 and 45,000 . Now it does not sound like a good bargin .

A much better plan would be to walk away and buy a Honda.
