A birthday hunt with a special signal at the very end. Is this going to be the real deal? Treasure hidden in a small tunnel?
Well, the adventure started everything but promising. I’ve spent an hour of metal detecting “climbing” up a hill, in hope to find something. To my very surprise the whole area was empty, with almost zero signals. Was the terrain “cleaned out” already, modified, or were the signals too deep? Maybe a combination of all.
Thankfully when I went down, I discovered a small spot down in the valley, with increased amount of small iron. I guess, it was an abandoned vegetable garden at some point in time. It seemed already detected (due to lack of non ferrous signals), but I was still able to make a few finds. The highlight came in form of a 1690-1720’s shoe buckle, a very nice and welcome surprise after so much struggle.
I also found part of a bronze ring basically on the surface and couldn’t extract a deep target due to lack of appropriate “tools” (AKA shovel).
Right at the end I’ve spotted a man made structure. It looked like a small tunnel made in “drywall style”. It could have a (draft) “cooling” function due to the opening on the other side. I placed the coil of my detector inside in anticipation and there it was, a signal! Could this be my very first proper treasure find? Due to lack of time, energy and extracting tools, I decided to quit at this point and come back some other time, “prepared”.
What do you think this might be?
UPDATE: I went back and this is the result: • What’s Hidden Inside T...
I hope you enjoyed this adventure.
