I'm playing on Chess.com -- these aren't sponsored videos but the site seems pretty cool.
Chess has been having a resurgence in popularity this year so I have finally acquiesced to semi-popular demand and started to play a bit. First, let's hone our skills and get a little more warmed up and then let's conquer chess dot com one board gamer at a time.
If you enjoyed the video, please consider hitting the Like button. It helps me out a lot!

Hey man, just wanted to say because I've seen this quite a bit in your videos - whenever, in the sicilian, they push d4, you capture it with your c-pawn. That's one of the main points in the sicilian, that you exchange one of your flank pawns for one of their center pawn, thus gaining a little bit more center control in exchange for slightly slower development. Also, not doing it just gives you good amounts of trouble.

When White plays d4 in the Sicilian, Black almost always plays cxd4, which is kind of the point of the opening. For example, according to Chess.com's Opening Explorer, in master games played in your position in game 1, cxd4 was played 77,753 times. Your move, e6, was the second-most popular, played a grand total of 17 times. (You can find Explorer under Learn on the menu.)

You saw the strong moves for your opponent which means it is not that you are worse then then but that they get into better position in the opening (which means that they know the opening better). Maybe if you get out of theory early, your opponents won't know all the best moves. Sicilia defense has a lot of theory behind it, if you go wrong there, people who are experienced in Sicilian can take advantage of mistakes

...and not just opening lines, but opening concepts and setups. You're not really playing the Siclian unless you know that you are supposed to take on d4. He should look at a few GM games in those openings, not so much for theory but to see how those players treat the opening in general, how they set themselves up. With the Sicilian that is actually hard because the opening is so rich and NL cannot be bothered to learn all this stuff; thus NL would be better off playing the French against e4. In contrast, for the London that study is quite easy, but he has already forgotten what Gotham taught him - his "accelerated London" is nothing of the sort but an unambitious line in the Slav.

Sicilian is a very complicated opening most of the opening moves are only possible because of the traps that are there in the position. Otherwise its just bad to put your knight infront a pawn that can attack it after nf6 with the pawn on the e file. If they push the pawn there you actually win there pawn. But not in every case. Sicilian is a hard opening id just avoid it. But you do need to know what to do as white or you will get crushed as white also. The main thing to know is that when white pushes d4 you always take with the c pawn. There are no good positions for black if you don't take the pawn because white will push the d pawn and cramp your position every time. And then they will play e5 sometimes and there's nothing you can do except play f6. Which is bad because there are threats of mate in 1.

I've noticed that when you're low rated there are so many moves to consider at every turn, and as you get better the number of moves you consider shrinks a lot since you're getting better at weeding out bad moves and zeroing in on good moves. There's really no way around it, you have you have your bad ideas punished until your opponents drill your mistakes out of you.

Once you've made a move in one game it automatically switches to the next. edit: Just be sure to have a 5 second gap between clicks when spamming the play button otherwise you end up playing some people half a dozen times.

Open Sicilian: 1.e4 c5 2.nf3 nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.nxd4 nc6 Typical move order. However, as a 1900 player, I would suggest learning more positional chess, and middlegame theory, as opposed to studying openings. The only extent that you need to know openings before about 2000 is just so that when you leave the opening you're not in a lost position, other than that, it's much better to know what to do, and understand the IDEA behind your opening, rather than the theory (book moves) For example... "In the ruy lopez we're fighting for the center and pinning black's knight to contest central control, and the majority of the war is actually over the center while we focus on developing quickly. " is a lot better than knowing "1.e4 e5 2nf3 nc6 3 Bb5 etc..."
