Mike I owns a autobody shop for over 35 years and body and painter by trade. And also ground up restoration on all my collections and toys. And for you to take on this with a spray can and make it look better than maaco. And then take on a patina look. I personally see a awesome job. Love you content. Videos and your knowledge Keep em a rolling and all the negative comments are plain jealous

I'm one of those guys who doesn't like the "patina" look. I think the shiny new version looked great. But, since you were going for the weathered patina look, I have to say you did a great job and it came out looking almost like the original paint might have looked. Looking forward to the video where you clear the truck.

When you started putting the paint thinner on with the brush there was a spot where you had the brush a little too wet. I was totally hoping you were going to say "There are no mistakes, just happy accidents." That would have been perfect.

But in all seriousness, you truly are an artist. Going down that rabbit hole shows how much of a perfectionist you are. I'm the same way. The fact that you take whatever it takes to achieve the look YOU, (and nobody else, screw them), is going for is proof of your talent. This is why YOUR channel is unlike all the others. I hate patina but I've watched other channels use a patina gloss coat and it makes it look presentable, so satin patina would make it look like someone fixed up an old truck and just coated it to protect it so I think that would be excellent.

When I was a kid, I used to build model sailing ships. I used to spend hours and hours getting them right, lots of detail, then I would float them in an old tank we had down the back and set them alight. They used to burn right down to the waterline. I guess I had a reason for doing that. Kinda cathartic in a way...

WELL. I simply skimmed thru this video. If we knew this was the look you wanted most of us would have suggested to simply paint the truck brown first. 46:01 (rust color or red oxide primer color). And not waste the time and money on the orange paint. Plus I would have hammered down the high spots a bit to prevent sanding thru to metal. I feel it would I d have been quicker. Cheaper and better in the long run

I think it is turning out perfectly. The shiny paint over all the old damage and years of doing truck things looked ok on screen but know that it looks terrible in person. I would put the truck outside for a while after done sanding and let the bare spots rust then flat clear it. Excited to see it come together 👍👍

Still like the original orange clean look more than the patina look. But one thing the aging did was get rid of the orange peel. So a win there. You have some bare sheet metal showing, so I am leaning towards a light satin coat, with a little thicker spray over the bare metal spots. This is turning out ok, but I would have not gone all the way down the rabbit hole. This was enjoyable to watch and see how you got to your mostly end result. Good job so far.

I have seen a few people go the same kind (type) of look and there's was not bad at the end at all. But as I watch you build all the layers of colors on all of the hood seems like the way it should be done. I'm so excited to get to the end to see how it turns out. Keep up the great content man👍 Your killing it🎯. Really enjoying the positive attitude as you go through each step you do on these "home" projects..👍

Mike it turned out very nice, I had no doubt, like you said you can just paint it again and start over. What some people might not get is that you have to paint the object backwards. What color do you want to show through, paint those first, then last is your main color and sand as needed. What about Poppy's Patina ????

I see my dad's work truck, mid-60's Chevy C-10 from the city water and sewer department. I can smell it too. My 60's and 70's guitars and amps got patina, but they're weathered from use. I don't go for weathering replicas, but that Ford you're working on isn't a replica. So I can relate to your desire to give it the 'survivor' look. It's fictional, but it's based on a true story.

Mike, you did a fantastic job on this, it looks great. If this was a total restoration with dent repair and all the works, then yes, a nice shiny paint job would be great. But this makes the truck look its age or look like a decades old restoration that is now faded. I guess the only nitpicky thing is if this was a natural patina, those bare metal spots would be rusty. Personally I would love to drive a truck like this, because I would have no fear of scratching the paint lol. Thumbs up! I think a satin clear would finish it nicely and help preserve what's there.
