I'm BACK BABY. Been a hectic couple of weeks trying to finish filming and get out multiple videos....and accomplishing neither. But here we are. Should be lots of upcoming content in the next 7 days. In this video i found a serious issue with my new cobra motor that required me to take it apart and sent out for some machine work. Not what I wanted to be doing but we are well on our way to hopefully having a sorted cobra! Plus, some adjustable coilovers from Maxpeeding rods!

The longest clutch replacement job ever!!! 🤣🤣 Serious note, Chris you've re-ignited my passion for my '95 Cobra. This July marks the 20-year anniversary since I bought it. We feel your pain bro. Anyone who's turned a wrench on a performance car at any point has had to go through something similar. Sometimes it just is what it is and ya have to bite the bullet. Still though, we all love the content, your videography skills, explanations on how all this goes together, etc. Keep at it and maybe take the Cobra out to the track when she's finally finished and take your pain out on a set of tires and slamming gears.

This old man i used, to live next to, showed me a trick to keep the valves up in the heads. With the piston down, put some rope in the spark plug hole. THEN put the piston to TDC. The rope was like a clothes line rope. I used this technique on my Windsor engine. SHOUT OUT to Mark at Bullet Cams 💪 For the headers, i would have used Stage 8 locking bolts. Easy to get in and won't back out. I feel your pain, i recently smoked a few piston rings from ring flutter on my Ford Racing, aluminum 427 Windsor engine due to a poor flowing PCV system. Now i have to re-build. I've said it before and I'll say it again..."Hot rodding will kill us all one day. Either physically from the car or from disappointments." Good job bro💪🏆

Next time, take a leak down tester and fill the cylinder with air and it will keep the valves shut. You can also use a small soft rope down in the cylinder and bring the piston to the top on each cylinder that you’re working on.
@beaugator
@beaugator 3 ай бұрын
Here's a little trick to use to keep the valve up. Very similar to the solder method of checking P to V or squish. Put a piece of thick solder wire in the spark plug hole and position between the valve your working and the piston top and rotate the crank to TDC. the wire is soft enough to squish (you can then measure that thickness to check P to V clearance which is normally done at 8* BTDC).

Only good thing it didn’t cost you much in parts but all the labor you put into was a nightmare with lots of stress and frustration but you are determined and capable of fixing these problems and you deserve a lot of credit for sticking with it and eventually getting it all back together and running again !

Your videos with that mustang make a LS guy look even more like a genius for avoiding all the trouble that motor has put you through. With the size of it, the complexity, and the cost an ls probably could have been built 3 times with the time you have in that mustang.
@midnight347
@midnight347 3 ай бұрын
This isn't typical of what these engines do. They're usually very reliable. Everybody always talks about how "complex" they are they aren't complex it's just different than what you're used to as a pushrod guy. These are just as reliable as ls engines if not more so when they're built correctly.

I probably wouldn’t use a mini impact to install the exhaust manifold studs.. right behind that thin area are the coolant jackets that you can easily punch right through.. You want to finger tighten and bottom out the studs, the loosen them 1/4 turn out so that they’re not making contact with the block when you go to install the manifold and nut for final torquing.
