Being born in Europe is such a privilege, when he said “go on skyscanner and just go anywhere that’s cheap” I opened and the cheapest flight out of Brasil is ONE FULL MONTH OF PAY AT A MINIMUM WAGE JOB. It literally feels like a prison that only the rich can leave

Agreed. I’m from the US, and while there is decent access for semi-budget flights abroad, everything is so far away and there isn’t a culture of taking a lot of time off to travel - it’s looked down upon as not being serious about your work. My dad lives in the UK and has been able to do so much great international travel.

@@fredfred2363 I don’t drive so I could be wrong but with the way gas prices are right know I don’t think it’s that cheap, my friend has quite a basic car and to fill her tank it usually is about 300 reais, that’s a third of a minimum wage, that’s a full week of work to fill it 1 time, imagine doing that for a full trip

I feel you, my friend. As a person who loves travelling, feels almost impossible to go anywhere, even inside Brasil itself. Everything is so expensive. We have an amazing continent with so many beautiful countries to visit in South America, but even that is hella expensive to do and I need to work and save money for at least a year to do so.

A great video. I admire your confidence to just go somewhere, with no planning, and make it work for you. I think you could make this a regular series, or maybe have someone else plan out an itinerary for you in a country to experience the country more e.g. "Ben's Rough Guide To....". p.s you could probably do a partnership with somewhere like Rosetta Stone to learn the local language a bit before you go to a country.

Ah and I did something similar too in 2014 when going to Australia, only diff was that I was taking the cheapest flight as long as it was south-east direction. We have a special type of “restaurant" tho that offers homemade food, it’s like for people who work 9-5 jobs and don’t have much time for cooking but don’t want to order junk food so that’s why you couldn’t find it anywhere 😅

This is absolutely amazing to see, as I’ve been to all if these places very recently. Seeing you walk these streets I’ve just recently walked really motivates me. I habe just recorded a travel video as well and your video really made me want to get to editing and finally publishing it.

Just found the channel and its a great video. Paphos was quiet because it was off season. I was there in Aug-Sep and it's very lively with tourists at that time. Down by the Harbour is very touristy, so traditional dishes (other than Souvlaki), are not really common in that area from experience. Could have got your pizza fix at a great restaurant out by the mall though, worth a visit if you're back in town!

This takes me back to my solo trip to Europe. It is n absolute privilege to live in that continent, you can wake up any day and decide to hop to another country for a day and be back the next day. You are so lucky. In Australia one can’t even go 30 mins away for less than several hundred dollars (and we will still be in Australia). Just a tip- you are in Europe, you are in the same hemisphere, pack for the coldest and the warmest temp.

I did the exact thing as Ben when I went to Rome lol. I was only in Rome for a day, didnt even realize the Vatican/Vatican City was basically in Rome, walked in, saw the queue to actually go inside the Vatican, took a screenshot of my Google Maps position to just say I entered an interesting country and bounced to catch my flight a few hours later

Fasolada is a Greek/Cypriot dish that's mainly home-cooked. You cannot really find it that easily in restaurants, as you can probably tell by now. Lots of foods in these countries are like that. Our equivalent to your fish and chips is probably our souvlaki, but that doesn't really make souvlaki a national dish. Kind of hard to explain but I hope you get the discrepancy.
