The flatout reviews are so bad because the first two games were pretty good for their time. Different game studio took over after that and used it as a cash cow :

Agreed Flatout 2 was a lot of fun. All sorts of creative game modes with semi destructive cars/World and online racing. This thing was an abomination.

When i was 8 , i used to play Flatout 3 on my desktop. I remember playing the derby mode and stunt mode, and to be honest i really enjoyed it . Also since english isn't my 1st language , for a long time i thought i played a modded Fallout game, only to realise it was a FLATOUT lie

Ok, some games are just cash grabs, let's ignore those. Back in the old days you bought one game with your allowance or salary (in a box or cassette) and then you would play that for 1-3 months, whether it was good or bad. On that note I bought a Spectrum 48k game once with my pocket money that I'd saved up, and even with the little leaf insert I couldn't figure out how to play it! It was as if a martian had decided to make a "game" for the the humans, it just made no sense.

Oh I've seen the Rats game and I played the first Flatout (like Flatout 1) back in the good old days and it was quite good and unique IMHO but yeah this one went to some diametrically opposite direction. The Rats game isn't that bad, they just pretty heavily copied one of the best old games ever (and it's amazing idea) called The Incredible Machine. Others are...uhm...yeah. xd P.S. I'll say give it a few years and Diablo 4 is definitely gonna go into the "overwhelmingly negative" for sure, I guarantee it! :D
