I have always been curious about the 10-step korean skincare routine, so I tried it for an entire month to see how it was & if there were any noticeable benefits! I tried a oil cleanser, water-based cleanser, scrub, toner, essence, moisturizer, eye cream, night serum, and SPF every day and night for 31 days to see if they live up to the hype!
To clarify, I stopped using the sheet masks after the first week and I used the scrub 3-4 times a week! So I guess it was more like ~450 applications a month. I got my kit here: sokoglam.com/products/10-step...

HELLO FRIENDS!!! i just wanted to clarify, i know ur not supposed to put on a scrub every single day, i used the scrub like 3-4 times a week! i had a line in the video about it and i think we cut it for some reason. so i guess my math was wrong and it was more like ~450 applications! thanks & sorry for the confusion!! saf

@Death Omen Dermatologists say physical scrubs like walnuts are bad for your skin, as they cause micro tearing. Your skin on your face is a lot more sensitive than the skin on your arms or legs. Highly recommend Origins. I think the pricing is fair and is clean.

Unfortunately, a lot of Western guides on Korean skincare gush over the whole "ten step" part of it and fail to mention _when_ those steps should be used, then people make videos derived from those guides using the full ten steps every day. When you choose to use a step will depend on your skin goals and also the time of day (of course). For example, many people don't use oil cleansers in the morning. Some people don't cleanse at all in the morning and only do a rinse, while some might opt for a gentler (e.g. maybe not foaming) water-based cleanser in the morning. Then your specific serums might not be used daily. For someone with hyperpigmentation concerns using a highly-concentrated vitamin C serum, they might only use it a few times a week in order to avoid continuously exposing their skin to such high concentrations of vitamin C. Similarly, sheet masks vary greatly but generally are recommended to be used two to three times a week. For one, it's incredibly expensive to use a high quality sheet mask every day, and you run the risk of clogging your pores or overexposing your skin to the ingredients in the essence. There are masks with less essence that are meant to be used daily, but generally these are hydrating masks for people with significant dryness concerns, so someone with normal or oily skin is just going to break out by using a hydrating mask every single day and trapping all of that into their skin with a moisturizer. Then your exfoliator is used two to three times a week, just like the sheet masks. It is far too harsh on the skin to be exfoliating daily. Realistically, the famed ten-step process shrinks down to about five to eight steps depending on your skin goals, product ingredients, and time of day. It is unfortunate that so many Western guides just say "do these ten things every single day and you too can have Korean glass skin," when doing all of those steps twice a day every day could be harmful to your skin, and many Koreans would advise against doing so as well.

Sooooo interesting video to me! As a Korean, I tried to do those steps often when I was young, but not anymore. New trend is to reduce the steps to keep your skin healthy with less sensitive products. My current routine is: 1. Oil cleanser(with massage), use natural sponge when I wash it out 2. Water based cleanser 3. COSRX Original Clear Pad ; I highly recommend this one! Don't need toner step with it. 4. Snail Cream or Sheet Mask I sometimes add or change steps depending on my skin condition, but these are enough to keep my skin healthy!

@@grace1742 well shaving armpit and pubic hair is better for sanitary reasons, because when you sweat in those areas it gets "caught" in the hair, and it begins to smell because of the bacteria. You dont have to shave those areas, i have heard that some people that dont shave just trim it every once in a while but I'm not sure
@veganpowercouple4486
@veganpowercouple4486 5 жыл бұрын
Nora Filmora actually removing pubic hair can lead to issues like skin/hair follicle infections, higher risk of sexually transmitted infections, and even smellier and dirtier genitals (pubic hair serves as a ‘trap’ for dirt, odor, and debris, thus leading to a cleaner, better-smelling vagina). Also, you can’t ignore the fact that waxing hurts a lot and shaving is a hassle that can make things itchy and uncomfortable. Nobody HAS to remove any hair on their body and nobody should ever feel pressured to by anyone. If you want to remove it, that’s great, but it’s important that people know the risks of removing it and then make an informed personal decision based on the information that they have.

For anybody thinking about starting an Asian Beauty routine, please don't start with ten products at once. Do research on good products for your skin type, ingredients, and what sort of products are good to begin with, like double cleansing, moisturizing, and sunscreen. Building your routine over a few months is the way to go, adding new products every few weeks. Putting so much on your skin at one time will lead to breakouts like we saw above and it can also cause reactions that you don't expect if you don't patch test. If you test over time, you will be able to pinpoint what exactly is working and what isn't. Also, certain products might to nothing for your skin at all, which I think is what we saw above. I have oily skin and so products specifically for dry skin do nothing for me and they would be a waste of money. Just get informed before jumping in and spending hundreds of dollars on products that you don't know can work for you.

For an oil/first cleanser I use banila co. clean it zero purity for sensitive skin. I also use some snail mucin products which you can check out but I know that's super weird sounding at first. Danica Brown Yess, this is so important! Always do some research first before you try something like this, especially if you're going to spend this much money on it. Koreans don't do 10 steps every morning and night, using sheet masks and exfoliants every single day is way too much for your skin. Most Koreans use very few, but good products. You should always be as gentle as possible to your skin. Trying ten new products all at once is NOT gentle.

Hi! I'm korean and I really want to say that in korea we don't use all those products at once!! I think korean girls generally have many skincare products for sure but it's becuz your skin condition is not same everyday. For example, if you have dry skin, you don't do double cleansing in winter (very dry season in korea) and use peeling gel once a week .. etc. If you have oily skin you don't put all those moisturizers etc.. I don't know why this 10 step skincare is so popular but im worried that korean skincare looks difficult and complicated. It's all about your skin condition not steps or product. I personally have 1. Cleansing water (it's just to take off fine dust from ouside when you get home 2. Oilbased cleasing 3. Foam cleansing 4. Mist 5. Toner 6. TonerII 7. Emulsion 8. Cream l 9. Cream ll 10. Face oil mix with cream ll + once a week scrub and sheet mask in winter and in summer just 1. Cleansing water 2. Foam cleansing 3. Toner 4. Emulsion

Aydan Qasanova Keep in mind that there’s a HUGE difference in climate by season in Korea. Summers are hot and humid, almost tropical... I used to have oily skin, and during the summer sometimes I wouldn’t even need to apply a moisturizer, my skin would just soak it right up from the air.
@Corbeaux08

Aydan Qasanova In contrast winter weather is quite literally Siberian... the Korean Peninsula is dominated by air masses from that part of the world, so our winter temperatures are extremely low and the weather very dry. In that case, I would probably do everything Saf did here, except at the last / semi-last stage, that eye cream is going over my ENTIRE effing face.

Saf, the Korean in me is dying watching you not use the products on your face AND NECK haha (but seriously always apply all facial products on the face and neck) also, the oil cleanser, eye cream, and night serum are only for night. SPF for the day. sheet masks and exfoliator- NOT everyday- max like 2 or maybe 3x a week.

What about the ingredients in most Korean products? I have to use 99.9% natural products because I have dry and very sensitive skin. Do Korean products follow natural or do they have additives like other products? :-)

As someone who's been doing a K beauty routine for a year I only do a few steps daily. Oil cleanser(if wearing makeup or especially sweaty), water cleanser, toner, moisturizer and spf. About once a week I'll do a BCA exfoliating serum, and if I'm feeling especially bad I'll do a serum and night cream. I've definitely noticed a difference over time. But each different skin type has different needs. :)

PSA: be careful when you see whitening products like the essence and the mask. there’s an extremely important difference between brightening, illuminating, or luminizing and whitening products. whitening products are meant to literally bleach your skin and they’re highly toxic. be careful and make sure to read product labels carefully!

Asian products targeted at "brightening" are usually called 'whitening'. Most, if not all of these mainstream Korean and Japanese beauty products are safe. The ones you should really watch out for are usually very cheaply priced, and deliberately target those looking to actually whiten their skin (you'll notice this in the packaging and advertising), particularly in countries with poor enforcement or lax laws on skincare ingredients. But yes, always check the ingredient list, and always buy from reputable sources.

Societies here should stop pushing women that they need to be fair to fit. Even tho I'm light to medium skin toned I felt like I wasn't fair enough. Here are the steps and their benefits: 1. Oil cleanser - to remove make up 2. Water/foam cleanser - to remove oil cleanser and to cleanse even more 3. Exfoliation (only once a week)- to remove dead skin 4. Toner - to bring the pH balance of you skin back to normal. Unlike to most of the toners sold in the Western the Korean toner doesn't contain alcohol or is used to cleanse your skin 5. Essence - It's the heart of the routine. It's most of the time the most expensive part as it contain a lot of amazing ingredients to repair the skin and to aid cell turnover. 6. Serum - to threat your individual problems. Use different after each other or at different skin areas. 7. Sheet masks - filled with serums to give your skin the extra kick 8. Eye cream - to prevent wrinkles around the eyes 9. Moisturizer - even more hydration 10 (morning). Sun protection - probably the most important part. Always wear sun protection at every time of the year. The Korean products smell very good and aren't as "oily". 10 (night). Sleeping mask - Like a thicker hydrating moisturizer which you leave on the skin over night. My tip if you are confused about the order: start from most liquidity (toner) to the thickest (moisturizer/sleeping mask).

Manuelaorginal How do you know and where do I purchase this set?
@Manuelaorginal
@Manuelaorginal 6 жыл бұрын
French Vanilla I googled it and now I have years of experience. It depends on where you live but most Korean online shops ship world wide and you get a lot of free gifts. Ebay is also good if you looking for one item. Overall I recommend yesstyle, w2beauty and roseroseshop. If you want to get a feeling for it just look for the bestsellers in each category. What is amazing about skin care products is that the good stuff isn't expensive. And it isn't a lie that Korean skin care is 10-25 years ahead of Europe and North America. The Korean women are very interested in the ingredients, therefore companies can't put bad or useless thing in there. For example they have a company called "Missha" mostly known for it's dupes for highend western skin care. And a lot of people, the company included, say that their dupe for the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair is better than the original because it has even better ingredients for less money.
@Manuelaorginal
@Manuelaorginal 6 жыл бұрын
French Vanilla btw the set she bought was from a website called sokoglam. Normally you don't buy the routine in a set, it's just for beginners. But if you look for the bestsellers on these shops I wrote you before you probably find your stuff cheaper and it gives you the opportunity to find out more about the brands. So, don't buy stets. Buy individual products from different brands they normally work perfectly together.

Super proud of you for diving in! I was intimidated for the longest time too but finally started a Korean Skincare routine at the ripe age of 25! A good resource to check out is this channel called Beauty Within. They have fantastic product recommendations and visual graphics explaining what different products are even doing for you. To remember the order of my skincare routine I use: “Can This Extra Stuff Make Do?” C - Cleanser (double cleanse if wearing makeup) T - Toner E - Essence S - Serum M - Moisturizer D - Day Stuff (Face SPF of at least 30) It’s important to know what your skin type is first before buying any products, because certain products are great for one skin type and horrible/irritating for the next. Would love to see a follow up video if you wind up determining what makes the cut for daily use from now on!!! Love your vids!!

Guys you're misunderstanding smth. The important part of this routine is the step not the product. You can use anything you find at your place but it needs to fit your skin type and the routine. Many Koreans use products from different parts of the world and it is the steps that make the difference. You might break out at the beginning because of too much product so I recommend starting with a good cleanser for makeup and some toner and lotion. U can add on the steps to target whatever problems u have along the way. It definitely has advantages and you'll experience the difference more as you age. The skin is very important ppl lets cherish it so that it'll stay young and healthy!

Yes!!! I usually use my makeup wipes and then have my gel cleanser for a deeper clean as well as to get rid of the residue from the wipes. I find that my skin is actually a lot better than when I only use wipes. And then a moisturiser and go to bed bc wHO NEEDS ANY LIFE BALANCE OR TLC WHEN YOU HAVE APS HAHAHAHA :')

I feel like for me, the 7 step routine works best for me. I've suffered with chronic acne for years, and using a routine like this has helped tremendously. I feel like this particular set of products is more for dry skin, and I've set mine to fit my combo/acne skin. It's definitely a lot of work, but if you're like me, it really might help. Joan Kim does a lot of videos about Korean skincare, so if you're curious, check her out.

Same!! I have always had terrible acne for years, but once I got into the routine of daily facial care (mine is personally 12 steps for night, 11 for day), the amount of acne dropped to pretty much nonexistant. Any acne that does flare up goes down immediately the following day. I think the main key here is using the right products for the type of care you want. In Saf's case I agree with you in that she used a set made for dry skin, and she needed to likely use one meant for acne or oily skin. But then again, not all these steps are for everyone!

i started a 3-4 step korean skincare routine about 2 months ago and my texture has improved so much! just a tip for someone who's willing to try korean skincare but is relatively new to it, you do NOT need 10 steps, or at least right away lol :) look at your skin and what it needs, and start from there. introduce one new product every week to see how your skin reacts (i struggle with mild acne so certain products can break me out), and if your skin loved it, keep using it :) a lovely youtuber named liah yoo provides amazing information on korean skincare and just skincare in general, i recommend checking her out!

I just started using Korean Skincare products and got some consults from the worker. Tip for trouble(pimple) care; - use toner that has salicylic acid, use a facial cotton if your skin is combination or dry. - preferably use a lotion, compared to a moisturiser. Moisturiser will cause more breakouts. - if you're adding a serum to your skincare routine, use the toner first and then the serum. However, if your toner's function is not for trouble (pimple) care, use serum first. - most important tip from the consultant was to sleep early cause your hormones will be imbalanced, causing more breakouts despite whatever products you use.

From what I've read, the guys all have their own facial routines that aren't actually too complex. The basics that they all do is cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and occasionally face masks. I think Tae and Kookie also use creams for pimples. There's an ARA post about it, or you can Google it like I did :)

Guys this is my version of the Korean skincare routine because my mum won’t let me buy all the stuff. Also it’s shortened so it’s not as time consuming. 1. Wash face with oil based cleanser (I use (stole) my mums shu eumura oil cleanser) Only do this if wearing makeup 2. Wash with a water based cleanser. (I use simple skincare refreshing facial wash) Now use a daily light moisturiser. 3. Use toner and serum 2 in one which you can make at home! I made it and it’s been stopping my skin from breaking out and ActUaLlY WoRkS! How to: mix aloe Vera gel and light moisturiser with a blob of night cream which is coming up. Add to some water in a spray bottle. Shake and your done. I just spray this on my face and pat it, then spray onto my fingertips and press into oily areas. 4. Then use this (or a store bought) night cream. It’s just a daily moisturiser and aloe gel, with sone vitamin e oil (optional) 5. Sleep Hope this helped!

For any dry skin people I recommend 1) cleanser 2)exfoliater(2-3 times a week and I think chemical exfoliates are better) 3) hydrating toner 4)essence 5)serum 6)eyecream 7) moisturizer 8) sleeping mask(night) SPF (day*make sure to reapply every 2-3 hours)

I have very oily skin with some acne scarring, I also work in a pharmacy for the past 6 years so I’ve used nearly every skincare company out there, Lancôme, Estée Lauder, Clarins, Clinique and other smaller brands. They were ok, I started using Korean skincare and it changed my skin so much, acne scars reduced, oily ness is still there but my skin looks so much smoother. I think it’s revolutionary
