Abstract acrylic painting technique with a rubber squeegee. I tried this fast and easy paint dragging technique and loved it, although I did have some problems with it, too. Have you tried it? What do you do with the excess paint?

Essentially you put different colored blobs of paint on canvas and then drag the paint down the canvas with a window squeegee or some other tool and it creates an abstract painting.

Make a journal with your leftover papers, and when the journal is full, put it in the bin where most journals belong :). And the lines in acrylic paint are often because of the brush, not the paint. Filbert-shaped are supposed to not give lines.

What a fun technique to try! I've never seen this before. I love how affordable this is. I also appreciate how you explained everything step by step and your honesty throughout the process. The 1st one totally does look like a group of people. I also like how you curved the second pull. Art is all about experimenting. Thanks for the inspiration!

You just gave me a great idea. I’m not a painter; straight line baffle me, but I believe I can do this. I’m just about to turn 70, and have too many life pictures in all different sizes, which I need to reframe, hard to find frame sizes, so perhaps do something like this, and add my lovely b/w & color pics to a few of these I’ll paint myself. You’ve inspires me, and perhaps I’ll share some on a new channel. Thank you, darling, for the idea and sharing your talent with us.

I think you did a great job of trying it and I like your comments on what you might’ve done the next time. If you really want to get rid of the canvas weave, you could do gesso first, although the canvases are usually pre gessoed. I think in the big painting, the smaller blobs look like children in the crowd. The smaller painting to me looks like birds. I like both of them.

Artists often leave parts of the canvas not covered with paint intentionally to create negative space, so for me it doesn't really look unfinished rather, creating a visual balance and harmony within the artwork. By paying attention to the negative space, artists can create a sense of depth, contrast, and tension in their compositions. I liked your squeegee painting, with the people, in a crowd/circle.

How fun - will have to give this a try. Think it might be easier to use smaller squeeze bottles with paint that's mixed with a pour paint recipe. I have some Folkart Dot paints I could try too but they are a bit thicker than a pour paint recipe. Then again I could probably put down a layer of clear gesso or other medium before applying paint. So many options. Thanks for the inspiration.

I can tell you what to do with them. Buy gluevarnish and add another color 50\50 mixed with the varnish. Then cover the paper entirely with the transparent mix. This makes the paper get a uniform shade again, with some variations. Now draw with a chalk. Then cover with pure varnishglue to seal the painting. Anyway great upload, thx!

Nice---- I would like to try this with a prepared red background, maybe scarlet or tomato colored, and then when that's all dry I'll pour several droplets or squiggles of black and also white over it in sort of a haphazard way. I'll squeegee the b&w paints (down or up) across the red bg, and that might look interesting. Maybe after it's done and dried, one could add a few small details by hand (via a small brush or Q-Tip or even a fingertip) in a golden hue or bright yellow to give a 4th color. Sp basically you just have a few very strong colors. I want to try a lot ... squeegeeing paints horizontally instead of vertically, etc. We are only limited by our imaginations and creativity. Thanks for sharing this. Good video and pleasant narration.

I used to print a lot on machines that used squeeges attached, now if you look carefully on the edge of the squeegee you will find on the edge of the squeegee you will find one edge smooth for when you want an ordinary print but if you turn the squeegee over you will find the edge is sharp for more sharper picture. Try it out and you will definitely see a difference.

So I did the group of people on a large canvas. Although it does look like a group of something I realized the quality of paint matters also one very important thing is you have to clean the squeegee each time you start a new section otherwise the top will not appear as heads (not rounded). Another thing the bright colors are more revealing of the images. I’m okay with my results. However I love the three small canvases that are the result of the paint that was dragged down.
