Some additional notes about this video: 1. 20-30% of people have naturally high creatine levels so supplementing with it may not make a difference to them. 2. Studies are being done on creatine for brain health, mental health, fat loss, immune system, concussion, and sleep deprivation. 3. Dr. Darren Candow (PhD, CSEP-CEP, Professor and Director of the Aging Muscle and Bone Health Laboratory in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Regina, Canada) said: "Creatine is the safest, most effective dietary supplement on the planet." Wow! Huge statement. You can listen to him via the link in point 4. 4. As a veggie you should watch out (besides supplementing creatine) on Zinc, Vitamin B12 and Amino Acids (especially the essential ones) Then you are good to go 👍 I struggle becoming a vegetarian and take the easy route of eating veggies, fruit and meat 😅😉 but hey to each it's own 👍 By the way creatine has now proven to prevent Alzheimers and also crucial for brain function.. @@73KaterchenGeorge, as u know, veggies often are much more aware of their intake than carnivores. GSE Chlorella an Spirulina tablets are a good ( and very controversial, yes I am aware) source of iron and B12, vit. K etc.. Seaweeds provide vitality and cleansing. They should be taken far from other supplements as they sweep out the body. May be a good waker up around 2 or 3 p.m. In the mornings a multivitamin and vitamine D drops taken in oil ( btw it tastes excellent in almondpaste, guilty vitamine and calcium pleasure :-))) ) will do the trick. Personally I dtill have to try the liquid supplement this youtuber drinks but I never skip echinacea tablets a.m. and p.m. Let's see jow it goes with the newfound saltwater routine !!@

@kberanoyd For those on an unhealthy diet, such as a vegetarian one, creatine can address dietary gaps, offering essential health benefits by preventing deficiencies. Prioritize a well-rounded diet that encompasses all essential nutrients. Supplements should complement a balanced diet, not compensate for an unhealthy one. They are not intended to support inadequate nutritional habits.

Surely a well balanced diet should give you all the minerals you need. I would probably only resort to additives if I had a deficiency of some sort. I resort to sport, fresh air, fun and plenty of sleep if I want to keep in shape. At 57 I have finally accepted that I no longer have to be as fit and sharp as a 20 year old. Congrats Laura - you've actually recomped/ changed the composition your body in the 100 days. 52 year old male. Had been doing regular resistance exercise for the last couple of years and added 3g of creatine daily plus some additional protein powder (12g whey) each day around 6 months ago. I do feel I have a little more energy when training plus some of the mental benefits. Maybe some of the recovery benefits too - but I can't be certain of that. From my reading, I'm probably under-dosing on creatine and may pop it up to 5-6g, based on the bodyweight calculations.

Dear Laura, I’m a person who has issues with functionality, I had a concussion when I was young, and from there it became difficult for me to process action. When I sow you rowing the Olympics, you didn’t inspire me, because I didn’t run the next day to do my own racing. But what you did was that you showed me beauty that I deeply appreciated, In theory I know that you can cross the Atlantic, in practice I know that I can’t do it, and if I attempt, I will be sleeping with the fishes. But like that many things about you revolve around performance, I liked the blood test you did, I will eventually get one like it. Around April I had a hunger strike for a month (due to family problems), my body got depleted from everything, so I was taken to hospital and they supplied me with many things that were missing. I was surprised at how strong I got, I got stronger than even before, Chemicals do drive us, and it’s lack of chemicals that make us see weaknesses in our selves. I admire the fact that your father has a gym membership. My father has diabetes and he started having dementia, I wish I started him on a gym routine. I will still look for ways to get him exercise, I will also look for ways to restore his cognitive functions. But it’s people like you who show us the cross Atlantic long journeys and make us believe that in the right circumstances we can do it. There is a movie called the (way back 2010) that movie was my favourite of all times, It showed that if you put one step infront of the other, you will eventually get to your destination. We hear about people who went on a pilgrimage to Mecca on foot, we don’t relate to that, we see them as spiritual people who are are fixated on their task. You are exactly a real life type of the people we see on those epic journeys, and you make it easily relatable because you are just the girl next door who wakes up with a foggy mind, lacking energy, and struggles to do push-ups. Something about you despite your normality contains a high ability to process action, and when you do, you endup pulling epic stunts. And from that point onward the rest of the zombies un the world copy your recipe, your algorithm in how you processed what you processed. You are a pioneer. Everyone else is a follower. Keep up the good work. PS: checkout Becky fidler on KZfaq She has a great approach to exercising, she looks at muscles and their functions, and how to develop them. I dont know if she covers everything, but I know that if a person wants to have a deep understanding of how workout functions, that’s the best place to start with. She is like a sports physiologist.

I started a resistance routine 3 months ago and, though I've lost fat, according to my scale i haven't gained muscle, even though I've upped my protein. So, go you, LT!

Hey Alice, thinking as I write.... the fact that you have lost fat means you will have a higher % of muscle than before....? So seems as though it's all going in the right direction 💪 Are you using ferocious effort and pulling faces like me? 😂 Perhaps consider creatine - us women need it!

If you go is to build muscle while being lean Protein helps but it's your calories what you take in what determines your body shape Type any search engine myprotein macro calculator It works out how many grams of carbs fat and protein you need for each day

@@knightveg thank you. I used to log all my macros on an excel spreadsheet (this is before apps...around 2005) and it worked! But these days I'd rather just eat healthy, avoid too many refined carbs etc and get enough protein. Complicating my food adds stress to what should just be easy, abd I don't like it. I guess I won't be entering any bikini competitions! I appreciate your input though 😊

@@LauraTryUK thanks for your reply 😊 Yes, you're right, my muscle rate is higher (slightly!) But after your video, I checked and I've lost a lb of muscle...allegedly. The thing is, I don't trust my scale tbh, as every time my weight temporarily increases by 1lb (you know how it does that...) my fat% goes up by 1%. Now, that can't be right! So I should probably just go by how strong I am, how I look, feel, and how my clothes fit. I probably should have realised that before commenting! I tell you what, though. At 57 I feel better than I have ever done, for certain. Even with all the hormonal stuff (no HRT) I think apart from having healthy habits, it helps to be endlessly curious about life (I have more than 20 hobbies that I rotate - I mean, who has the time!) and to realise chronological age is really not very important (apart from counting the number of years we've managed to stick around!) I've been taking NMN for over a year. On the fence about it. But I do believe the cold plunges have reset my thyroid through the hypothalamus, which I didn't even know about (sorry I might have said that before). I'm rambling. I get excited because I think people could improve their lives/health with small changes and just don't realise! And (thanks for asking) I'm lifting dumbells at home. I have a set of powerblocks. But in the first 12 weeks I didn't lift heavy as I was recovering from 6 weeks of a v sore back-tweak...never want THAT again. Anyway, that's probably the key to it: weights not heavy enough. Just started my second 12wk round and much more confident to go heavy. Hoping it'll help my beloved cycling too. No need for reply...you're a busy gal!

Good overview LT. It would be hard to parse out the effect of creatine when you made so many changes simultaneously. However, yes, it is well-researched and accepted as safe and effective. My question is how do you know if you have naturally high levels? Also, What is the scale/body analyzer you use? Thanks.

I take a1/4tea every other day in the am. I'm post menopausal, have a hairline hip fracture, arthritis throughout my spine so these issues fatigue me. The creatine has helped with the fatigue and endurance. I did find when I took it daily the water retention made me feel worse. Overall highly recommended, it has helped me get back to the active life I enjoy.

Hi Laura, this is another brilliant video (as always)! 😀 I love, that you help spreading out good information on the uses of creatine to a health-oriented audience and counter the "but that's just for bodybuilders" stereotype 🙂👍🏻 Also mad respect for your progress in the gym and how it shows on the scale: That's a major body recomposition that you achieved! 😳 So you really have done things very well (meal plan, training, supplements, etc.), such that you managed to lose this much body fat and even build muscle at the same time! 🤩 I'm currently trying to lose body fat and build muscle, too. I don't have the advantage of "newbie gains" and I'm far from reaching your fat loss achievements (at a much higher body weight, cough) and your progress is very inspiring to me. I'm not yet using creatine, but I'll think about it after this video. Thanks for that! Also thanks for introducing that Tanita RD-545 in your earlier videos: I've bought it based on this presentation and its been a great companion ever since 👍🏻

Yet another thought: So I'm currently educating myself on fat loss and I keep hearing, that after successfully shedding 10% of body mass (in body fat) it might be advisable to eat at maintenance for 50-65% duration of your fat loss phase. Just saying, because you did just that. But I guess you are being coached by someone very competent and they will surely consider such, if that applies to you. 👍🏻

One thing you missed is taking creatine monohydrate with some lollies after you do strength training. Your muscles can absorb creatine more easily when insulin is present. It also kicks off recovery.

Very nice coverage of a fine supplement. This video's value is that it's made by a woman and tells her story. Many benefits besides strength gains. The ladies owe you! I've used it for years. At 81 every little bit helps. You may tell that it isn't a form of steroids. Many people do think that. Nope legal in all kinds of competition. You were killing those workouts!

Thanks for the video, it’s great timing because we just bought our first tub of Creatine. Both in our 60s and do weights training, but I’ve had plantar fasciitis and inflamed Achilles after an 800 km hike, I’m hoping that Creatine helps these attachment sites eventually (as I know the blood supply to these areas is lower). Wondering if anyone else has used creatine for this problem and what the results were??

Great input :-) I have taken it, but I got worried that it did impact my overall performance as a long distance runner... It kind of messed up my VO2MAX, but that could have been for a multiple of other reasons as well. Other that actually following to my training plan. I did that 100% :-) But my VO2MAX dropped, not dramatically, and my perceived performance suffered. Hart rate higher, I run most of my runs in zone 2... Not sure there is any evidence that runners do not benefit from creatine thou...

I've been taking Creatine for around 6 months and the benefits are worth it! I combine it with HMB, which helps my muscles to recover faster. HMB accelerates the healing of torn muscles too. Be warned: If you take HMB, take it in the mornings. When I take it in the evening, I am windy all night. That is horrible! 🤢

Interesting one. You've got me curios to try it. I'm currently experimenting with caffeine levels to increase performance and mental clarity on tougher/longer endurance training sessions. Have your tried it? From what I gather, you can do a megadose of 4-6mg/kg to start off and then take an additional mg/kg every hour thereafter to maintain the effect, which would be the general optimum dose - which is way below any sort of dangerous levels, but of course still enough to rattle your system quite a bit, possibly causing gut distress, anxiety and insomnia and so forth. But the positive effects are quite nice too, so it's worth experimenting with to some degree I find, at least for endurance exercise.
