I've been gaming on a trackball mouse for more than 10 years. Once you get the hang of it, its not bad. Plus if you plan on playing for a long time, it'll ease and reduce the stress (potentially if you have one) of CTS in the long run.

I use the Logitech MX Ergo for FPS and gaming in general. The protoarc is a cheaper alternative to the MX Ergo. I’ve tried the protoarc and there’s a few downsides compared to my experience with MX Ergo that just keeps me using the Ergo more. But nonetheless, it’s a cheap alternative and decent for any entry thumb ball users coming in! I’ve started uploading shorts recently so aiming isn’t impossible with trackball and with time and practice you can get close to or be better than your skill level with mouse!

Purchased a MX Ergo because of shoulder pain using regular mouse(s) What's the dpi on the MX Ergo or is dpi a thing? Didn't see any dpi settings in the Logitech software. Just play with the trackball sense and in-game sense until it's satisfying?
@sudiT7
@sudiT7 Жыл бұрын
@@legionDC I don’t think there’s really “DPI” when it comes to the MX Ergo or at least not in a numeric sense. The program will just be a slider on sensitivity. If GameBall release a thumb version, they will have an actual DPI slider. I use RawAccel which is a mouse acceleration program and tune adjust accel and sensitivities per game. Apologies for the late response.

I play first person shooters with a thumb trackball mouse and I am able to kill much more than I die. I do this because I grew up using trackball mice and never really liked using regular mice much.

I've been a gamer since the mid 1990's and most of that time was using Logitech TrackMan Marble Trackballs, or similar trackballs. The "marble" is only a 300 DPI trackball but I play the likes of world of warcraft and am best known for one of my healers there! I like these so much I have bought a box of them and have replacements for years to come! The only problem with the Trackman Marble is there are only 4 buttons! I would like to see a proper gamer version with 8 or ideally more programable buttons.

@degu44

@@kecikmiao3930 I'm not a fan of bluetooth where speed / synronization is an issue. I paid a lot for some blootooth 5 headphones and they are useless and are even out of step with the lip sync on youtube videos. Fine for listening to music but not if syncing with something visual. In gaming I would be hit then hear the sound afterwards. So useless in that environment. My son used a bluetooth mouse and has no problems so maybe it is not an issue with input but rather bluetooth as the receiver.

When using a thumb trackball mouse, you have to lift your thumb frequently and re-adjust; it is inevitable. You want to set your sensitivity so that you can just barely yaw 180 degrees at the most without lifting your thumb, any higher is excessive and will make it so that you will not be able to aim with any precision at medium to far distances.

It's also important to note that if you try first person shooters with a thumb trackball that you get one where the ball will continue to spin even after you lift your thumb off of it. This way I can set my sensitivity really low (like only being able to yaw 90 degrees without lifting thumb) and still be able to turn around fairly quickly by giving the mouse ball a little spin and stopping it at the right moment.

@@Law42069 The only one I've used for a very long time is the logitech m570. Btw my previous comments were not meant to imply that a trackball is better than a regular mouse, I was just trying to say that you can game with trackballs but a regular mouse is probably still better.

I have been using Razer and Logitech for years, unfortunately they only sell that in my country, the detail is that I have not felt the proper ergonomics of each one and I have had tensions when moving those traditional mice because of how big and small they are since they did not fit well my hand in any type of grip, currently I want to change to a trackbkall but the only thing they sell is the logitech mx ergo wireless trackball, do you recommend that I use it and get used to it. fast action shooter and mmorpg game, that logitech trackball would help me

Try the wired m-xt3urbk from Elecom Japan on A-zon). It has 750/1500 dpi and a sixth button that is programmable. Ball is low on side and very comfortable. After learning to play on that I have not been able to go back. Everything else seems slow since you have to move your whole arm with a mouse.

You "spin" the ball, after a while you learn how far to send the ball before catching it with your thumb and can get very good at flick movements and 360 or 720 spins. It takes YEARS to develop the muscle control in the thumb and hand to use them for gaming primarily.

Finger balls work better then thumb balls. Big difference between brands. Generally the bigger the ball, the better. Setting sensitivity is key, but once you get dialed in, moving a finger compared to moving an arm around is obviously better way to go. Reliability is a big thing, no batteries to go dead in the middle of gaming, with the mouse being stationary no need for batteries, no reason why the cord would bind up get in the way or run out of length like a regular mouse. Dust can build up under the ball and interfere with the lasers inside. I should pop the ball out once a day, blow it out run my finger around pulling any cat hairs out of it, but i forget, so about once a week it happens, and it takes 30 seconds to clean. I'm no pro but I have been told that a lot of pro gamers are using rollerballs. I have a Microsoft X08-70390 Trackball Explorer 1.0 USB. I saw a review once that claimed it was the best trackball/rollerball ever. It is out of production and that might explain why they range in price from $90-$140 USD. I have a second Rollerball The ELECOM HUGE. It's also very good, I gave up trying to program the keys though, can't remember why to be honest. So many people are resistant to the idea of rollerballs, its obvious to me they have become so use to a regular mouse that it feels alien to them and get frustrated too quickly to give them a chance.

I just got the Elecom Deft Pro a few days ago, and yeah, I'm totally sold on trackball gaming now. I tried a few games with and without mouse acceleration/smoothing, and found ultimately that using the trackball with a 1:1 ball-to-camera ratio and no acceleration worked best, i.e. when the ball is rotated 90° to either side, the player camera turns 90° as well. Played 3 rounds of Left 4 Dead 2 and scored 47% accuracy (average of the 3), which is about 10-15% higher than I usually manage with a mouse. Having the ball perfectly mapped to the motions of the game camera made quick and accurate movements completely natural; if I wanted to glance into a side hallway while walking past I'd just roll the ball left or right quickly and then back to centre. Something about the tactility and the "realness" of moving the ball correlates with better in-game accuracy, at least for me. I'm totally sold. My Razer Mamba has been collecting dust since Monday this week.
