I have featured Marilyn Monroe's favorite beauty products that you can still buy today in several videos. Marilyn's makeup artist suggested that she use Vaseline under her foundation as a way to give her skin a soft focus under the lights. I wanted to try some of her beauty products, so I decided to use her favorite foundation combined with Vaseline every day for a week.

I have used Vaseline faithfully since I was 13 as a face moisturizer l do all my face , lips and eyelids every night before bed and every morning after washing my face. I then put makeup on about a hour later. Never a problem. I'm 61 yrs. and proud to say l have flawless skin and look half my age.Have been a Marylin Monroe fan since I was 13 heard she did this and yes it works. Great videos. ❤❤❤💋💋💋

A brush would work better than a poufy. That may be the glitch. You need more of a sweap vs pat. As a mature woman, my skin is getting dry. So, think this may work. And save me 110 a year on Primer. I appreciate this challenge. Ty for sharing.

I believe Marilyn used the Vaseline as a base above which the foundation could "float," making any small lines or imperfections disappear.

I live for Vaseline 🥰🥰🥰🥰I’m an 80s baby as well and my skin is so hydrated and soft! I use it on my whole body mixed with my lotion and perfume since age 19 a Hispanic lady told me about another Black lady that did it and how beautiful her skin was and now I’m hooked!

Vaseline is my top choice everyday lip moisturizer. It’s also for me the first layer before any lip color. If used by doctors and dental offices alike then it must be a proven awesome product.

My late husband was enamored with Marilyn Monroe & had an extensive collection. Marilyn used Vaseline because she shaved her face everyday and had very dry skin. He had one book that spoke of some of her makup, though her makeup artist refused to ever reveal his secrets.

Your a trooper. I can’t stand Vaseline and I have very dry skin. I read that she also used Max Factor foundation stick. I ordered one from Amazon. I used it once and threw it away. It had a horrific smell and made me look 10 years older. I’m so glad we have so many other options today. It’s sad that she had limited options. Great job. 💗

Marilyn would really need a theater make up. She was "on" as soon as she stepped out of her door. Paparazzi hung about her like vultures. She had to be photo ready at all times. She HAD to be perfect. She would have kept a powder compact with her everywhere. Ye Gods. What a life.

I have a feeling the foundation might work better without the vasline under. And I wouldn't be surprised if the formulas have changed at least a little bit since Marylin used them, especially the foundation, so it might have worked better for her when she used the combination

As far as I know, having researching this particular product, it hasn't. That being said, Marilyn had a TOTALY different skin type.

I imagine this would just melt under hot lighting. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! I used to ask my elderly patients what they used on their faces (the ones with amazingly young looking skin) and the top two answers were always Oil of Olay or Vaseline.

Maybe after using the vasoline, wait a few minutes and gentle blot off excess with a tissue, the do the foundation. I think the foundation was quiet lovely on you.

If any of you watch Wayne Goss, he recommends mixing a little dot of face oil in with your foundation. I’ve done this before, if my face feels really dry. Kind of the same effect. I think maybe you used too much Vaseline. I enjoy your videos.

I love this!! I would try using one of those foundation “paddle brushes” that look like hair brushes, with it. You know what I’m talking about? Those blend even my fullest coverage foundations.

Love your videos, I have oily skin so I don’t think I’ll try this but I wanted to tell you that I too use the Coty Airspun and I put it in my vintage powder holder I keep on my vanity. I just cut a hole in the container and dump it in.

Vivian Leigh used Alexandra De Markoff foundation and powder. That might be a fun line to try. They were still selling it through the 90's and I remember trying lipstick and really liking it. So something to think about.

Love this! I love history, makeup & cinema, so your channel is so fun to watch! How cool it must’ve been to do this, I love Marilyn but I don’t think I would try this foundation. I’m a huge Audrey Hepburn fan so I would love to see anything related to her beauty products, Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich would also be interesting. Thank you!

I actually started just mixing concealer with vaseline to make like a foundation and I love it! But a little definitely goes a long way!

I it's important to note that not everyone has the same kind of skin. What worked for Marilyn Monroe, may be completely wrong for your type of skin. Or, this may work out beautifully, it's really hard to say, until you know your skin type and what works best with it.

I just started using vaseline at night time I remove some of it with a tissue and sunscreen moisturizer for Daytime under my foundation

I use Vaseline too, my skin is super dry. I use like maybe half the size of an Appleseed for the amount, rub it between my hands and spread it thin in my dry areas first then work it outward. If it feels too greasy I dab with a Kleenex. Thanks for the video! I’m interested in trying this!

I got mine in the mail and I actually love it. A little bit goes a very long way. It is a very dry product and today I used a spray of rose from Dr. Thayers and it seemed to help a great deal. I also used a bit of primer. Again, it is a very thick product and covers amazing.

Also I would try out the foundation without the Vaseline maybe. Vaseline is soooooo thick. I couldn’t imagine it under any foundation lol

My Aunt used to do this same foundation technique in the 60s and 70s. She was very shiny and I thought she was sweating but I was a little kid so I never knew it was vaseline until I was older. Yes, with a face mask this would be very difficult to use all day. Great video!

I also heard that she used also as highlighter. Maybe she did not always used it as primer maybe nivea under? And wonder did she ise it also when she used erno lazlo or just in early years? If i were to try this, I'd experiment with how I use the vaseline. For example, I'd like to try putting it on, waiting 20 to 30 min, then patting the excess with a soft tissue and only then apply a bit of foundation. After, I'd wait another 20 min, pat, then add powder

I use Vaseline as a night moisturizer sometimes, but I can’t imagine anyone wanting to use it under makeup…Yikes! WAY too greasy even for dry skin! Maybe try the foundation without the Vaseline. Poor Marilyn if she had to wear that all the time!..lol

Did you try the matys substitute for vaseline or besame’s moisturizer? Also, apparently it you apply the vaseline and then the Nivea crème(German version) let it sit a bit and then the Erno Laszlo “Shake it” then you blend it with your finger tips and then use the day dew on top that should make the perfect base that Marilyn used💁🏼♀️💖

Also, I like to blot my face with a tissue before applying foundation, especially when a product is so oily as Vaseline." Was this something Monroe used only for photos are some kind of brief special event? There might have been different products that she used for different events. Also, there would be make up artists doing continual touch ups for the stars. I'd imagine the ingredients in both the foundation & the vaseline have changed drastically. The products she used would have been totally different from what's available today. If she felt the need to use vaseline the original foundation was likely very drying.

You look super young make-up free!!! I'm thinking the smell comes from oils and it not being esthetically fragranced. I'm thinking it would be a lot better with an easily absorbed moisturizer, wait 10 minutes, then use that foundation paste. Do you really work 6--7 days per week?

I believe I am going to try the foundation. I have been using vaseline on my face for years. Result is everyone tells me I have nice skin and I don't have a lot of wrinkles.

Be-carful with Vaseline, I had a dermatologist tell me it clogs pores, because I do this too. But it seems like you use a bit so you should be okay. But I would love to try this ❤️the airspun powder is my favorite powder ever

I like this idea a lot, but I agree that it wasn’t intended for daily life. Marilyn made a lot of personal appearances and film lighting was harsh too, but she didn’t make up each morning. I think she may have blotted with Kleenex too. Back then they used that stuff for everything, scratching that face with wood pulp 😆.

Vaseline is good for me, I actually used to slather it on as a kid thinking I was going to get pimples because all the other girls were using Oxy pads and I was jealous for some reason. It just made my face soft lol.
