in today's video, i tried old navy's workout apparel! i placed this order before i knew of old navy's new sizing inventory "realignment" (um, are they cutting plus sizes? we'll chat). i ordered a bunch of their workout apparel, all in a size XL (for reference, i'm a size 16!) and we're giving a full honest review! hope you enjoy this try-on haul style video xoxoxo

I would encourage people to think differently when it comes to companies making decisions to pull back on carrying certain items in stock. An excess of clothing is not only terrible for the environment, but it is not a smart business decision. We tend to think these big companies have an overflow of money, however peoples jobs are lost when companies make bad business decisions, such as carrying in excess just to prove a point. If it doesn’t make financial sense to carry all the sizes in every single store location, then don’t. I believe they are doing their best to accommodate. I’m petite (5’1”) and I wish companies carried more petite sizes, but I’m not the average woman and so I have to be ok with buying petite online or shopping elsewhere. I don’t mean to offend anyone as I am all for companies carrying in all different sizes and lengths but I also work on the backside of retail business and realize how actually difficult it is.

Hi! I work at old navy and I was informed by a manager that there are stores that just have such low sales of plus sizes the company decided to pull the inventory from those stores. I work in LA and the Century City store plus size will only go to a 2x since 3X and 4X just doesn’t sell and the store is ridiculously tiny as well. They’re not pulling it out of all the stores, it just depends on the location and how well the extended sizes sell as well. I hope those helps a bit!

Was in ON yesterday, everything I looked at had all the “X” sizes available. And it’s 75 of the over 1100 US locations, or 7% that are cutting back. No I’m not plus size, but I’ve been a retailer for 30 years. This “tweaking” is perfectly normal and in my mind only reinforces the commitment ON is showing to this initiative.

When a company as a whole is losing money, I don’t think I can be upset at them for removing their plus sized option of “all items” in some of the stores (or whatever item/items/line a store is carrying that aren’t selling well). When ON rolled out this option last year, I was excited, but did think..”will that last very long?” Just from a business/economic standpoint, I can see where it wouldn’t make much sense for a company as a whole if they are losing money in a number of locations. Yes, they are a huge corporation, but business is business. Companies can’t just cater to consumers if they also aren’t seeing the sales, that’s just the reality of business🤷‍♀️. I’m a plus sized woman and I’m 5 ft tall, very short, I am VERY used to and expect the possibility of having to return for another size. Again, the reality for many of us. I give Old Navy kiddos for trying the option. But can see where it would make them lose money over time if the items just aren’t selling in plus sizing and they have to rethink the business model. It happens in all business, menu items at restaurants are taken off menus if they don’t sell. Usually the items I love most. 😂

if other sizes, like small or medium, weren't making as much money, they still would not exclude that in stores. they can SAY it's JUST about money, but this just shows plus size women are extinguishable if we don't work hard enough to make millionaire companies even more money. The next time you see a size extra small (which infamously don't sell well) be pulled from the floor because they "aren't seeing the sales", let me know. edit: this is not to say i advocate for boycotting. old navy is literally the only store i shop out and being able to shop in store is seriously amazing to me. but you can't create that fantasy for plus size people and then rip it away.

@@Young-lw6yd Ironically Old Navy also had issues with sales for their children's clothing (both issues were brought up in a meeting - I saw this on TikTok from the same woman who made the spreadsheet). Do you see Old Navy removing their children's clothing from store? No.

I was at an Old Navy two days ago and it was overflowing with Plus Sizes. I think they just overstocked plus sizes and just meant that they would scale back on availability.

Last time I went to old navy the clearance was overflowing with plus sized clothes. Cutting back in store probably is a good idea in my opinion. Edit: i saw a couple other comments saying this too, so it can’t just be my store with this problem

This shouldn’t be a reason to not support old navy. They still carry plus sizes in many stores and it was revolutionary. There are just some issues to work out. Don’t boycott the company for this

@@peachxtaehyung she doesn’t say “boycott” but she does go into depth about how she ordered this stuff before they cut sizes from some stores and how disappointed and bummed she is. Bottom line is, that Old Navy is one of the only stores who makes the same clothes in plus size and straight size, charges the same amount, and puts them together in the same section. That’s amazing

@@shannonblackmore2814 they removed the extended sizing from 75 stores in the US and 15 stores in Canada because the sales of plus size weren’t doing well in those particular stores. I don’t see anything wrong with that decision.

There are 5 old navy's in my area, Kansas City, and every one of them carry the plus sizes and typically have LOTS of stock available in them. I think it depends on the store and what their sales are in those sizes for what they carry.

I agree I think it's a demographic thing. If their sales at a particular store are largely plus size it makes sense to heavily stock plus size in those areas vs keeping a poor stock in every store. It's a business move

There’s a great podcast episode of The Journal. that discusses this move by Old Navy and why they had to pull plus sizes from some of their stores. It’s really insightful to understand the economics behind it and all the moving pieces that went into it. It seems like they hope to move back towards carrying plus sizes in all stores again.

The Old Navy close to me sells up to a 4x. I'm assuming some areas just don't have enough sales to make up for the cost of keeping them in stock. Maybe they could add their stock in stores to their online stock to help with this 🤷‍♀️. Everyone should be able to purchase the items they want from wherever they want.

Last time I was shopping in Old Navy I did notice that the clearance section was over flowing with plus size items. This makes me think people are buying plus size online more than in-store (at least where I live).

Unfortunately it is retail suicide to continue to make items that don't sell well. That is why things in general are discontinued or made less of. I am plus size and I work in distribution and that is just how things work. It's not personal to plus size people, it's just business.

Short people have had this problem for a while too. The stores move their petite sizing to online only. I’m incredibly short and can never try on jeans/pants etc that actually fit me. It’s incredibly frustrating😩

@@morgan3llis001 This comment is a no for me dog. Everyone deserves to be able to shop for clothes that fit their body. May that be large, small, short or tall. No one should have to take everything they own to be altered. Edit:”super affordable” is going to be different for everyone. Some people have trouble making ends meet and altering their clothes is not an option for them.

@@Steph568 I agree but its just generally easier to make things bigger and no clothes are going to fit everyone perfectly, that's unrealistic. getting pants shortened is usually like $10 in nyc. personally, i buy all my pants used and then get the waist taken it to fit perfectly ($12-$20 in nyc). so usually my second pants after tailoring is cheaper than buying brand new pants at somewhere like old navy. Tailoring is more affordable /attainable than people think, just trying to spread the word.

As someone who has major body weight fluctuations (I’ve worn everything from a size 2 to a 18), old navy is consistently a great go to for me. I definitely support what they’re trying to do.

Carrie, I would be interested in seeing you maybe exchange some of the things that didn’t fit for the tall option. I always find myself ordering tall at Old Navy now, and I’m only 5’7, because I am a long torso lady and I love the extra length it provides there.

I went on a camping trip last month and went to old navy to pick up some athletic items and was SO shocked at how flattering everything was on my body. I’m super impressed with their workout stuff!!

I am obsessed with Old Navy's power soft material. I like that it isn't too compressive - a lot of compressive work out clothes really hurt my back. Their power soft leggings really helped me to start feeling more comfortable with my body and shape.

It's really unfortunate they are scaling back on their plus sizes in store, but I am assuming they have a reason for doing so as they aren't pulling back in all stores. Maybe plus sizes aren't selling great in that area? It still sucks :(

So old navy has 3 different "lines" in their active wear - powerchill, powersoft and powerpress. They generally correlate to low, medium and high impact. If you want something tighter/more compressive in the waist, go for the powerpress. They also have ones that say Compression in the title. Just saying! Almost all of my active wear is old navy and I miss their old elevate line (replaced by power press but not exactly the same)!

I used to work at old navy. Basically what we were told was that wayyy in the past they had a more inclusive line. But not the same way. For example, they only carried limited sizing and the sizes Weren't always in the same section as other sizes in the store. The PR also wasn't advertised as much. Now that they opened up the line again. We all immediately notices how much the community positively responded to it. However, some stores are cutting back on placing items on the shelves because they have not gotten the numbers of sales they need. Sometimes the more inclusive sizing sits in the back of the house because there hasn't been any community sales. That doesn't mean they are getting rid of the sizing. Just certain stores in the US do not have the sales that allow them to push it off the back.

I also think that a lot of their sizes are just bigger than standard sizes too, which could explain why. I went in to try on a bunch of dresses for graduation like a month ago (I tried like 10 different dresses). I’m normally a large in any store, but I had to reach for a XS or S in order for them to actually fit me. They all fit so big, especially the ones with the ruching/shirring.

Yesss I love old navy workout stuff!! So im normally a 2xl but I size down and wear an XL in all the stretchy workout bottoms and they fit great. Sooo worth the money. Also I can kind of understand them scaling back on the stores that don't sell bc in my store the 3xl and 4xl sizes are ALWAYS way over stocked and they go on clearance every single week. And because you can size down I think they aren't seeing the sales for those sizes as much. I definitely think they should still be carrying them but maybe just paying more attention to what sells and when and stocking off those numbers instead of just throwing a ton of inventory in a store and if it doesn't sell , saying now we won't carry it at all.

It's kind of a complicated issue because if there's a lot of complaints about Old Navy going backwards because they're pulling options from stores, no other brand will want to experiment with expanding sizing in case they get cancelled for adjusting their stock in the future because of stock or money. I can see from other comments that availability is still high, they just likely overstocked. Please don't support boycotting or trying to cancel or badmouth them. That'll just deter other companies from making the same move. It just makes me a bit uncomfortable because it's not easy to juggle sustainability and availability all at once esp in Old Navy's scale. We shouldn't be pushing for overstock just for sizing - it's enough for me if they carry my size online with a few or so in store, ESPECIALLY with their generous return policy.

I work for Athleta which is under the GAP umbrella that old navy is… heard through the grape vine that it came down to money. It costs more money to keep all of the sizes in store if they aren’t selling. Even at Athleta they thought the extended sizes would sell more but their only maybe 10% (or less) of our sales. Clearance ends up being mainly extended sizes, so if you want stores to keep carrying these sizes, go to the store to shop. Everything seems to be moving more towards online now though.

I work at old navy we always Carry clothes up to 4x but we don’t have as many and they sell out quickly. But if we are out of the size you need if you order in store it’s free shipping

I live in NS Canada and we carry a ton of plus sizes at old Navy. When I shop there (I'm 5'1, petite) I can never find my size, but always tons of L-3Xs. I don't know if that means the plus sizes are in demand or if the regular sizes are bought more and the plus sizes stay on the shelves longer. The clearance section seems to be a mix of regular and plus sizes, but leaning more on plus sizes.

Supply and demand baebee... I have no problem with Old Navy cutting back on production of stuff that's not selling well in certain areas. It makes sense! Also, as others have said, I see TONS of 3 and 4X's on clearance sale in the store I frequent (and I live in a city with plenty of curvy bodies). Maybe they were just overzealous out the gate.

As a size 16 I have a hard time finding anything at my local ON, and most other stores. There's usually a lot of sizes 0-8, and sizes 20+. Not much for midsize girls 12-16. I've been doing most of my shopping online recently.

It's all about Supply and Demand! After a year of selling plus sizes in every store, the company has the data to know which stores have a demand for plus sizes, and will continue to supply in those stores.

The medium support sports bra is my absolute favorite sports bra ever! So comfortable and actually fits really well. Other sports bras always feel too tight around the band.

So far my local Old Navy's still carry plus size and are fully stocked. And all my stores were on that one spreadsheet. So I don't know what is going on. Cause my sister and I were talking about this and it has been so nice to be able to walk into a store and know they will have something for me. And their plus size is really sized well (minus the jeans and jean shorts, the sizing is still a mystery). It also made me shop there more often! So fingers crossed!

I *really* like these ath-leisure fits!!! not as crazy about the lighter colors.. but.. the pricing is affordable (much more so than like.. Fabletics.. for instance) and the styles are CUTE!!! wasn't gonna buy any more summer clothes this year.. but.. here we are.. thanks Carrie!!! 💚 😊

I noticed the same thing in the shelf bra with the old navy exercise dress. It fit perfect everywhere else but the shelf bra had a lot of extra fabric. It’s still super cute tho and it’s not super noticeable. I’ve been really loving old navy’s active wear!

I totally get them cutting back on plus sizes. Here in Denver when old navy is super picked over all that is ever left is the plus sizes etc and my size is always gone (M, 6/8). It seems the larger sizes don’t sell here at all so I would assume we are one of the markets they are cutting back. I love old navy just wish I could find my size more!

I work at Old Navy and they aren't "cutting sizes" they are just going to order less units at certain stores bc those stores were LOSING money. Not the company, the STORES. That effects payroll and resources for employees because Gap Inc. gives that out based on profitability... Also you can order anything online in the store and get it to your house free shipping. It's sad that you're "angry" with 75 stores for needing to cut back on sizes in order to pay their employees, staff their stores, and continue offering in store online returns and other conveniences that cause their store to "lose money"

I love those longline sports bra tanks! They're my fave. I usually size down in the athletic clothes at old navy too. My favorite workout pants are their crop high rise leggings! Where I am in the Phoenix area, my store has plus sizes available and often the L and XL aren't in stock, so I guess it depends on the area? Loved this video 🥰

I used to work for the brand and it really has to do with what sizes sell more at locations. If lets say a 2x doesn't sell as well in a certain location that location will recieve more of the sizes that sells the fastest.

They stopped carrying plus size in stores for years but they are slowly bringing them back! A lot of the plus size is on their website. I get my leggings through them for awhile now and was super excited when I heard that they are slowly bringing back plus last year and it's gotten bigger selection at the store near me!

I just had an order as well- I am between sizes in Old Navy it seams (I am an 18- size XXL on top, XL on bottom) and the dress- the XL was small on top and fit throughout- the XXL was just slightly big throughout and ended up being longer than I hoped- Literally that dress is AMAZING and sizing is just the slightest bit odd.

My old navy has more plus size clothing then regular sizes. There's items that are sold out in S/M/L and all they have left is 2x,3x,4x ect

The side pocket leggings are my go to! I'm always trying to add more colors to my collection! I'm a size 12 and wear a large and they're perfect but I don't love super compressive leggings. I'm also shorter than you so the rise is perfect for me! I also have one of dresses and I'm in love with it! Mine is a large petite because I found the regular length a bit long and awkward on me. I'm 5'5 so not a typical petite

This video sent me over to Old Navy, even though it wasn't for workout wear! I noticed that there was a note on each item under the Product Details, Fit and Sizing that with their "BodEquality", they are working to provide equal quality, style and PRICE up to size 4X. So, even if they have to scale back on plus sizes in some stores it looks like they are trying to do what they can for their plus sized shoppers. (Good riddance to higher prices for larger sizes!)
