So glad I switched over to a safety razor. Way better shave than any cartridge I've tried.

I vaguely remember looking my grandmother’s sea shell collection and she called one type of shell a razor. She claimed that people used to shave with them.

I've been using a straight razor for four years now never looked back from a multi bladed razors because of ingrown hairs. Would absolutely love to try this.

Add a strop to hone the edge, with some polishing compound.

I used a straight razor for 2 years. A lot of dedication goes into keeping the blade sharp and would never dare shave my head with it. I've been using a safety razor for 12 years, and shaving my head every 3-5 days for 5 years no problems at all

I had to get a vintage straight razor to be able to shave with it. Only had to hone it. I've bought cheap straight razors that can cut hair but can't shave, and I can't manage to get it shaving sharp but I stuck at sharpening. I used that vintage razor for years until the blade split cracked while I was using it. I guess you need to rinse those in cold water or it changes the temper. Straight razors are a dangerous daily use but so comfortable when you learn how to use them. You can get angles you can't with a regular or box razor they give you. Also don't have to pay for replacements.

Why doesn't a bronze razor completely shave the hair away?

I wonder why the significantly-curved blade? Maybe just the lack of a handle? Or maybe for more utility shaving parts other than the face, or controlling which parts of the blade make contact? In more modern times, I associate curved razors with someone else shaving you, but couldn't even say why. More advanced shaving might partially be hygienic as well, especially with clergy and armies. Habits with suspicious utility like that always seem to stick around, even when the stated reasoning is otherwise.

Did you use a bronze microphone too?

Beard reduction with a bronze razor was only half the process. Back in ancient times, they would take care of the remaining stubble by (painfully) buffing their faces with a block of pumice stone and then using tweezers to pluck any stubborn beard hairs that remained after that. It was reportedly excruciating. Tells me that their bronze razors were probably not any sharper than yours and left a lot behind.
