There shouldn’t be narrowing of price between CBCS or CGC you price the same grade per grade. Don’t take a penny less if it’s in a Beckett/CBCS case. As some graders came from CGC to CBCS.. Don’t ever sell yourself short when it comes to CBCS books. Diversity is the way not monopoly from 1

I never gave CBCS a second thought before because of the bland labels. I do like the new, more attractive labels a lot. I think I love them, so why don't I marry them!? What I dislike the most about the current CGC labels are the banners at the top that read 'CGC Universal Grade'. It reminds me of the distracting banners at the top of older comics advertising Toys R Us giveaways and 'Marvel Comics Group'. CBCS got it right by not printing a banner at the top that distracts from the book title. Now I hear CBCS slabs are sturdier. Seriously considering submitting to CBCS. I’ve been nothing but pleased with cbcs services. Their turn around times are awesome, their grading is on point, their cases are better and the signature verification is great. Give them a chance and I bet you’ll be pleased

I didn’t mind their prior label, but the new one, in my opinion, is solid. I prefer it to CGC’s by leaps and bounds.

I am so glad that you did this video. I have a Batman, Scooby Doo #1 that is signed by the author and personalized to my son. He has been asking me to send it in to CGC and never understood the difference between the green purple gold and blue labels and I told him that we just could not do so. I think I am now comfortable sending the book to see BCS and letting them verify the signature. Video was very helpful for me to make a decision. Thank you.

I’ve had really good experiences with cbcs. The only exception was when they were moving and it took a year to get my books back. Since then I submitted another batch and the turnaround time was maybe a few weeks. Their encapsulation process is superior to cgc and allegedly books never require re slabbing. I’ve got some signatures that I need verification on and I can’t wait to see them in the new slabs.

Their verification service seems great! I've collected books over the years with signatures from my favorites because cgc hardly comes to my local cons to verify. Can't wait to try them out. Their new labels look great too!

I just used them 2 weeks ago at a con and just like you said it was done in about a week and a half(they told me 30 days). I get it this Wed as I live close enough to pick it up. I'll mention the packaging.

Comic artist Darwyn Cooke used to live in my city (Halifax, NS, Canada) for a number of years, and he was best friends with my LCS owner. Darwyn was CONSTANTLY having signing events at the shop, and I have a a good number of books signed by him (along with Steve McNiven for the same reason). One thing that Darwyn hated to do was so witness signings for either CGC or CBCS, so there aren't that many SS books in the CGC census. After his passing, I sent my "New Frontier" #1 signed by Darwyn to CBCS for verification. I was extremely happy because it came back a 9.8. There are only TWO 9.8 books signed by Darwyn in the CBCS census, and only SIX in the CGC.

I've found CBCS usually grades harsher than CGC. Or at least they did in the past. CGC might have tightened up a little since the last time I compared the two directly.

I got many stuff signed by Chaykin, and when I saw that silver scribble, I recognize it as Chaykins sig. He signs a diagonal "H" and the middle line usually carries off in a wave. He also charges $40 for Star Wars book at conventions.

There is definitely a grade for grade adjustment when comparing sales of CGC vs. CBCS. But I'd be interested to see the difference between the green label of CGC vs. the gold of CBCS. All of my signed books are pre-2000 and they are all going to CBCS. I'm pretty that no one likes that green, or purple, label.

Steve Borock said he thought the first cbcs label was great, and I agreed with him as it did appear to really look like a professional looking label. He left cbcs because they were making decisions he didn't agree with.

From what I have seen Jim it’s right around five to ten percent on average. Personally I don’t see how when CBCS does cleaner work that CGC and are more consistent with grades. They do seem a bit more strict on grades.

The one instance where I would always send my books to CBCS over CGC is if I needed signature verifaction. I had several books signed before CGC came into existence, and I wish I had submitted them to CBCS instead of CGC. I'll take a yellow label CBCS over a green label CGC any day. Also, the CBCS new lables are a nice improvement over their previous labels.

At the moment there is a difference between CGC and CBCS resale prices due to the customer demand. I know it is unpopular for me to say but I prefer CBCS turn around times for me are similar if not better from CBCS, customer service was slightly better, I prefer the cases, they have signature verification, had qr code first, and labels improved in their current version. CGC has custom labels and resale is higher at the moment (didn’t like the archival paper). I personally think resale prices should be similar specially with the current CGC scandals.

I sell a fair amount. CBCS sells about 20% lower on average and takes longer to sell

I recently expected a qualified label on two signatures that came with a 30 year old COA. The sigs blended onto that foil Spider-Man 2099 1 9.8. It came back with blue label! CGC missed both sigs!! I made $50 more for the CGC mistake as the book became cooler! !

Just recently I cracked five X-Men books that were graded by CBCS and regraded by CGC. In one instance, I had a CBCS 9.0 come back with a CGC 7.0. Every one of the books came back from CGC at a minimum of one grade lower than CBCS. You had the opposite occur with your book.

Funny a kid can write their name on a book and it’s a blue label but if an actual artist sig is on book because cgc doesn’t get any fee for it automatic green label

Why didn't they give you the newer label?

I CGC slab for part of my living. It's been awhile, probably 1.5 years , since I last spent real time comparing sold retail prices between grading companies. The average price difference from what I remember was approx 20% or more lower for CBCS than CGC. I may have checked ten books so the sample size was small. I'll do price checks on the fly as I price my CGCs while also noticing CBCS prices. It appears that there is still enough of a price gap to stick with CGC which factors in costs to slab.

Jim, word on the street was always that CBCS were not as conservative on their grading. Whether or not that is true, I don't know. I think the proof is in the pudding here. You got a grade lower with CBCS than CGC on the same comic. I think that CGC books always brought more money because they were the biggest game in town and at one time the only game in town. Hence, been at it longer than the other grading services when it comes to comics. I think we will see a trend here in the future where CBCS and even PGX catch up in pricing to CGC. It's not that CGC aren't certified graders. It's just quality control and poor customer service that has and will continue to hurt CGC. I understand that CGC has recently acquired new leadership. I have mentioned before that I have a handful of CBCS and maybe one or two PGX. I like them. Especially CBCS. I have many CGC slabs. I have never personally sent in raw books for grading. I'm debating on just going full CBCS. Lastly, I just wanted to see how many times I could mention each grading company in this comment. Just kidding. If anyone guesses correctly, then you should do a giveaway. LOL

The current CBCS holder is nicer. CGC is a joke. I'm not surprised at all that you got a full grade lower with CBCS. Sending your books to CGC is like rubbing your lottery ticket scratch offs. You don't know what you're going to get. Sending you books to CGC is like being involved with domestic abuse. You keep complaining about your problems but don't change anything.
