I gotta love how all the “groundbreaking” changes broke all of my 178 mods, those changes being things that I had mods to add into the game anyways

one of the main advantages of having a pirated version of the game on hand is that you don't have to deal with mods breaking if you don't care that much about the most recent updates.

When is the starfield next-gen update?

It baffles me when Bethesda calls it "Next-Gen Update" when they cannot even add FSR3/DLSS3 while the modders have added all 3 Upscalers into the game a long time ago.

The game is now broken on the Steam Deck OLED. The steam deck subreddit is having a meltdown now after having told everyone to “wait for the next Gen update.” I swear to god people never learn.

I think the worst thing is.. they added nothing. Yes the free creation club stuff but that already existed which just means that they were too lazy to actually make anything.

Their disconnect from their costumers is so baffling it’s almost admirable they got this far.

I can't see the fallout TV show without being drenched in fear of the skyrim TV show that is 10000% in the works and the inevitable dozen re-released of skyrim.

The update ruined my performance on Xbox. One of the new quests is totally broken. Wish I had pictures or video to share, but there were giant red exclamation marks all over the place. The new weapons are all invisible, and at one point there was a guy shooting red exclamation marks at me form an invisible gun. Good times.

A game that is almost 10 years old still broken after a next-gen update. The BGS standard. 👍

FYI there us no actual ultrawide support in this update, the uis are broken and everything was just stretched. They did the BARE MINIMUM to look like it but it's just 16 9 stretched into 21 9

this update was more for us console players. i’m not really sure what you pc guys were expecting, and i’m sorry it may not meet your expectations and obviously breaking the mods are a huge blow, but being able to play 60fps on console is a godsend for us. If anything i think it should have been an optional update for pc

Turned updates off, and disconnected from my wifi, and all 200 mods ran butter smooth. I'll hold off until things get updated for the mods.

They made some of the coolest games that are also some of the worst games. Bethesda is like a perfect coffee but you used red bull instead of water and poured the coffee into a sock.

So let me understand this. For people who know BGS didn't fix anything of importance the main thing was the "creations" update like how skyrim works now. You know, to avoid every creation club content addition not hard breaking F4SE. Why in the entire fuck is that not here. They didn't even give you the CC content like in Skyrim either, this is just a hard break to mods, again, with zero upside lol.

this game engine is only made for 60 frames or lower because the physics are tied to the framerate.

The fact it pushed back Fallout London makes me sad

Even for console they couldn't bother with the biggest request of updating the mod limit, because they " didn't want to break mods and load orders", meanwhile my whole game crashed and load order is broke. Just about worthless as most of the stuff they "fixed" had mods that weren't file heavy.

The real question is that do the next-gen improvements give Fallout 4's graphics 16x the detail?

It’s a nice gesture they released an update for such an old game. Especially, for console players. But at the same time, this was such a minor update. Why was it hyped so much? Also, why did wait almost 2 years to release it, when all they did was repackage CC content and enable PC settings on console?

I think out of the dozens of mentions of this series and this exact game, this is the most concise and considered synopsis you've given about the fallout 4 experience. Personally I feel the exact same way, it's about a step up from some Borderlands game but not quite a Witcher 3 or even much of an RPG

I was playing fallout 4 for the first time since 2015 a week before this update. I played today, and it's so SOOO smooth. It's now 60fps or more and it's great. I got lucky asf with this update

i find it interesting that although i didn't know when the update was coming out or that it would break any or all the mods i was using, after i updated and launched the game i found that despite 30 mods i had installed not one conflicted or errored and i am still playing and continuing my last save with zero issues.

For how much time I spent playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I can't believe how quickly Fallout 4 seemed to come and go. I could never get far into it, because it just didn't grab me...but even the announcement and time after release are just gone from my memory. And now it's nearly 10 years old. Crazy. I don't know if I'll ever really give it a chance.

People wanted New Game Plus to be added to FO4 but is that it? At least they fixed some of the bugs, crashes and many more. This Update is a missed Opportunity.

Important context: As with most Bethesda updates the 'real' update is backend. According to Ianpatt from F4SE the compiler was changed, and F4Edit reports that the archive file format was adjusted/changed as well. Situation reminds me of when they added esl's as an option with Skyrim which basically had no change at first but has completely revolutionized modding today, not to say the outcome will be the same scope, just to say that there probably will be a significant effect that's not seen short term. As much as it's easy to shit on the updates for breaking mods, they are usually helpful down the line, and potentially may one day lead to them finally porting the games to DX12 where we won't have to deal with draw call limitations and pandora's box is finally opened.

So just went back to fallout 4 after the show, started modding, was having a good time and without knowing Todd was dropping a new update... Now there is no fun... Thanks Todd.

my heart dropped when i saw the update. Thank god I didnt set it to auto update. I took a full back up of my game just to check and yea of course it broke nearly everything

What a blast of nostalgia. I remember getting super motion sick from playing this game nearly an entire decade ago.

Idk why everyone was expecting this to be some massive thing. It was to draw attention to the show. They laid out exactly what was coming.

The first time they talked about this patch... they talked about something NEXT GEN (ENHANCED), and that was right after the witcher 3 did the same thing... everyone thought it would be a total increase... better graphics...bug fixes, stability, etc, etc! Without any information for months and months, some began to think that the update might not be released... with the insistence of fans for more information, Bethesda announced that it would come after the release of the series on Amazon and made everyone feel relieved and more excited again. Even because it took more than 1 year to do this upgrade, everyone thought it would be something big! The truth is the opposite! Bethesda not only didn't improve but also fucked up a lot of things, which after the whole fallout 76 case and criticism of starfild, it's amazing how nothing changes and they continue to be liars and disrespectful! Fallout 4 had NO GRAPHIC IMPROVEMENTS! What they did was increase the resolution and fps in the console version! If you played on PS4 or Xbox One and are now on PS5/Series X, you will see an improvement in image quality... but IT IS NOT A GRAPHIC IMPROVEMENT! Ray tracing, mechanics and content graphical improvement is what Cdprojectred did with the witcher 3! ON PC you have an eternal bug that when running at more than 60 fps the physics of the game is broken THEY DIDN'T FIX THAT! There is a graphics option linked to the Nvidia GameWorks graphics library that can be activated in the game to improve bullet fragments and impacts (and it looks much better) but for years activating it means crashes and crashes.. you run the game for a few minutes and it will always crash and in more than 1 YEAR of ""working"", THEY DIDN'T FIX IT! To make matters worse... the patch broke many mods, many mods are simply completely unstable! all thath for what???? Better graphics? NO! Improved mechanics? NO! Improved gameplay? NO! For bug fixes that have plagued users for years, especially on PCs? NO! So why did we have this patch that is a disgrace for the modding community, and it didn't improve anything??? MONEY !

I am playing with PC. I got Ryzen 7 5700x and RX6900XT and everything is working perfectly. Everything did work before, but i had to make little bit work to enable 3440x1440 widescreen resolution. Now there is ready to go settings for me. This is awesome. I have not got any kind of issues, or crashes, or any kind of fault. Game looks good to me, and it works just fine. I did mod a little bit, after couple of hours playgame. I put these mods from nexus mod: - FallUI - Inventory - GRASSLANDS - A Fallout 4 Grass Overhaul - Fallout Texture Overhaul Stars - Fallout Texture Overhaul PipBoy (Pip-Boy) UHD 4K - Vivid Weathers - Fallout 4 Edition - a Weather Mod and Climate Overhaul I did not see that this need anything more, at least this moment.

All my settlements have decorations & beds just floating in the sky now

Yeah the mods are a big thing for me. I made a complete backup of the version before the update, and packed it away just in case because of the mods I use are really good mods, and I don't want to go through the headache of reinstalling them which is cool because you can have two copies running on your HD as long as you have steam running of course so I have the best of both worlds.

To be honest, this update only truly benefits the PS5, wich was the only platform stuck in 30 fps. On Xbox all that thing does is force me to put the game on the already cramped internal storage unit when until yesterday the game ran fine from an external mechanical HD. On PC, it only serves the purpose of breaking people's mods. The "extra content" hardly makes up for all the mods from the last 9 years.

The free CC content isn't version dependent. This means you can update and roll back without losing that sweet new mod dlc. You can have all your mods and the new content.

As long as they fix Boston, I honestly don’t care what else they add. Been almost 10 years, and DTB being essentially unplayable, kills any drive to play.

If you want to play Fallout 4 again, wait a few days for the Fallout London mod to come out. Based on what the developers have published so far, it'll be huge. Roughly as big as the base game. It was scheduled to come out on the 23rd this month, but due to Bethesda's update breaking most mods, and some of those mods being essential for Fallout London, they need to wait a bit until some mods get updated. Which shouldn't take too long.

finally, the plague that has basically divided the modding community for Skyrim (atleast anyone using USSEP on SE, which is practically everyone)) is getting the same treatment for Fallout 4. i cant wait.. 7:50 Godd Toward: "it just twerks"

I love it when Bethesda updates a game with some big next gen upgrade or anniversary patch. It really sings to the souls of those that don’t like change. Cause you can’t even tell what they changed.

To add more context to that 20 year timeline, the length of time between mainline games that gap would take up the lions share of their employees careers. Meaning that at the rate they are going most of their employees would only ever work on 1 or 2 mainline games before retirement.

My understanding is that the update is pretty much worthless.

FONV took 18 months and FO4 took wat best part of 6 years? I mean and FONV is an absolute credit to obsidian and a gift to us gamers ,I mean give me the wonky shooting mechanics and a new fallout every couple of year any day than the tripe Bethesda are putting out once every 10 year or so ,it's a no brainer to me and hopefully Microsoft see this and get another studio working on a spin off at least.

Survival mode in fallout 4 combined with the settlement building makes fallout 4 the most fun game I have played in awhile. the re-playability of it is great. Survival mode is very good.

So uhm Luke, if you're going to have Afterburner on the screen, it would help knowing what the numbers besides FPS mean. Your 4090 is chugging at 20-30% load. So, you're entirely CPU bound. Frametimes also look horrendous, so I'm guessing one of the mods you're using is bricking the engine hard.

This update fucked up the mods on xbox. Some people lost their load orders and the game sometimes won't even let you download mods.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest things they didn't fix is the weapon debris bug. The Game still crashes because of it. Bummer

Escape from Boston still LOOKS AMAZING for all my fellow console users. Most of the mods I use for firearms are good with it still, and it just brings a lot more life to Fallout as a whole!

Bgs could release a couple new dlc's for Fallout 4 during the interim, an in-between game is so unlikely it's actually kind of astonishing that the title has currently been abandoned for the time being.

Aft works fine. Thats all I wanted, it’s nice hearing all the followers banter. When I play vanilla I usually just stick with the same follower only because I never feel like going and grabbing a different one.

If you're playing on PC and using mods that require the script extender, it's basically just always going to break with an update, however it's usually fixed within a couple of weeks at most

One thing I did not expect - My formerly blond and bearded character in an unmodded file save on Xbox has suddenly reverted to having black hair and no beard. Thanks to the forums having been shut down years ago - I have no way to tell them about this issue. Also, rendering distance inside Sanctuary and other settlements where I've built is horrible. My large barn in Sanctuary, for example, doesn't have its loft walls and roof until I get closer to it than the northern side of the workshop house. Hopefully, the modding community can step it in fix some of these newly created issues. Hopefully also there is still a patch or two coming. I also hope that the modding community also replaces some of the older mods that are now completely missing on the Xbox - basic things like being able to fill bottles outside of survival and settlement scrapping mods. Overall though - I agree it is a game that is well worth the effort and I'll still keep playing it regardless.

Definitely a graphical difference on ps5 for sure
