There is a Bluetooth and aluminum chassis variant available, too, for $70. It was $50 a few weeks ago. I believe someone in the reviews said the board with the red switches is the only definitely hot-swappable version, while the others are a hit or miss.

This board is great for having a cheap mechanical board that you can put in your bag and not worry too much about. I've got the Bluetooth model, with some extra foam, tape modded, and with a swap to my preferred Box Royals with some cheap PBT keycaps, and it's honestly pretty great for typing and writing on the go using my phone. Ultimately, for my first dive into keyboard modding and customizing, I don't think there was a better way to spend $100 or so overall

So nice to see you cover RK boards! I have an RK96 and my partner an RK100 (RK is one of the few brands available in Argentina). Definitely not the best of the best, but all things considered they're amazing mechanical keyboards for the price, especially being hot swap. The stock keycaps aren't great but RK also offers custom keycap sets which improve a lot the experience as they sound a lot better without even having to open up the board.

Warms my heart watching this. I spent about a year watching videos in this community hoping to get a mechanical board for myself, and recently purchased my first board, the RK61, deliberately with it being a budget board to get started as a complete beginner. I also swapped out the RK switches for Gateron Milky Yellows, so seeing a KZfaqr with way more experience I admire doing the same thing is great! I went for some cherry profile PBT keycaps (haven't had any interference issues), a custom cable and although I have done a little modding to the case, that Kilmat mod might be worth a shout!

My first keyboard that I purchased to mod was a cheap RK from Amazon and it was an excellent deal to try out modding and I loved it ... until I modded a slightly better keyboard...and now I know it's not the best. However, it was still the best way for me to learn about keyboard modding, leaves a lot of room for mistakes. :)

So happy you reviewed Royal Klugde! Bought the RK100 several months ago, I wanted the F row along with the numpad, and so far I'm enjoying it. I frakenstiened and lubed the switches that came with the keyboard while waiting for the Akko Star Fish to come in. The sound drastically improved after working on the switches, modding the stabilizers, placing foam (my keboard didn't come with any foam), and tape modding the pcb. It's not 100% thocc but I'm happy with it for right now. It's Bluetooth/Wireless, it comes with a dongle and you can hard wire it into your computer. The battery life is meh, not bad but not good when not hardwired in. The only issues I run it is the battery life and when switching keycaps as the second ATL, FN, CTRL keys are 1u, the second Shift is 2u and the 0 on the numpad is 1u. Not that big of an issue but it does hinder the search for 100 keycap sets that fit the RK100

RKs are actually overall pretty great for beginners. They're cheap, as you said, and they sound really good once you've modded. Would I recommend someone who just wants a keyboard to immediately type on? No. But would I recommend it to someone who wants to start modding or knows the rough idea of what they want their end game to sound like? Yes! It helps you get more comfortable with both the basic idea AND some of the skills needed. So yeah, RKs are pretty great that way. Thanks for the video. :D Side note: Boards that came out in 2022 seem to all have the foam installed by default. Mine, bought in 2021, did not. Sadge.

Its great, gave a pair of them away as gifts and I now have offers from other friends to mod their boards lol. The rk reds respond pretty well to lube (though I changed the springs on all the rk switches I've lubed to stock Gateron brown springs I have leftover) and the stabilizers are smoother than you expect.

I started my keyboard modding journey also with this keyboard. Granted, the version I was using is soldered PCB and wireless. I also put an automotive sound dampener to it about 2-3 years ago, and it does elevate the keyboard sound, miles better than the stock pre-built keyboards from big brands even today. The keyboard was cheap, and the opportunity to improve it is BIG. It even comes with its satisfaction 😊 it helps me learn how to solder/desolder switches, lube switches and tune stabilizer, a skill I still use today when building custom keyboard. I say just try it, and as such pretty recommended.

I have this same keyboard in the 96% layout, and honestly a new set of keycaps and some dampener O-rings under them went a long way. For a pretty cheap (mine was around $75 iirc) keyboard with two day shipping, it's really not bad. I'm going to try different switches at some point but for now I like it well enough. Also, their software slaps very hard for a cheap keyboard - a hard requirement for me was being able to remap keys easily and this was literally the only keyboard in this price range with this layout that could do it.

I have also purchased this keyboard. I was looking for a good but at the same time not too expensive (budget) small and clean mechanical keyboard and came across the RK61 on Amazon. I have to say that I'm very satisfied with it so far. The price-performance-ratio is very good. I bought the keyboard recently and by now it is as well wireless usable and the additional functions are visible on the sides of the keycaps and not on top, which really improves it a lot visually. The lighting functions are really well customizable in the downloadable software from RK. Also, the switches are hotswappable and the keyboard is pretty well insulated. There's no rattling noticable at all while playing in my opinion. The only drawback I have is that the lighting intensity is a little weak compared to other mouse and keyboards, but not too bad (I have the black version). All in all, a really top *budget* keyboard. I highly recommend it ! :)

For someone who doesn't really care about the sound a keyboard and moreso about it being quiet so I can focus on my PC audio and don't annoy others around me, it's been very hard to find a good keyboard. Most people really hate membrane (& pseudo-mechanical) and most budget mechanical keyboards under $80 just don't have any quiet options. Could any keyboard expert recommend a path to look for? 💖

LTC nimbleback in my experiance is a notably quieter keyboard than my rk61. I think the cost is about 10 bucks more from when I bought it. It's still a mechanical keyboard so it won't be silent, but you might be able to mod it to make it even more so.

I recently bought the rk98 for 55usd. mann!! this keyboard is a money steal. It has wireless 2.4Ghz, bluetooth, two usb port on the top, hot-swappable, fully adjustable rgb with software and finally it has a silicone pad between metal plate and pcb and a foam on the bottom. also the stabilizers are factory lubed. the sounds feel amazing even though it has abs keycaps

The RK71 was my first mechanical keyboard and I _just_ finished building my custom replacement. I honestly really liked the RK71 because it was cheap, had bluetooth, and the feel wasn't that bad (even if it was high pitched). The biggest drawbacks for me on that board was that the switches weren't hot-swappable, there was no USB wireless receiver (though I think other RK boards do), and really that there were no F-keys. That was only a problem because the combined Esc/~/` key defaulted to ~/` instead of Esc (which I used so much that I had to remap one of my mouse buttons to), so I had to either constantly to Fn + Esc or use SharpKeys to remap the keys, which didn't always work.

this is honestly a gateway keyboard for people starting out and imo i think it's one of the cheapest entry boards out there. me and two of my friends got into custom keyboards and we all bought the rk84-- and that was before RK decided they'd put in plate foam in some of their hotswap boards. my friends and i had to look for foam to put in our boards ourselves (which we would have done anyways since there's no case foam) i got an ikki68 lying around waiting for keycaps rn and my daily driver is my tm680 and my modded rk84 is just sitting on my wall. can't really get rid of it, it's just so special. and it sounds good. i still love it to bits.

I think I’d say this is definitely a great board! The RK84 was my second keyboard build, and while it doesn’t have any of my absolute favorite things on it…it might be my favorite board. it was so dang easy to mod, and it’s cheap. Everything went smoothly, it took some lubed Kailh Box Whites really well, and the LED is bright enough, and the software works well enough to compliment the key caps. Of my 5 boards, it was probably the keeb that “just worked” the best.

For me the reason I switched to mechanical is the diversity in layouts(though I really wish it would continue to grow in more than "what other keys can we get rid of?"), consistent feel, n-key rollover and board-level key customisation. The RK98 answered all of those for me(and I was looking for that specific layout, 1800 with condensed f row), and with the switch tester, and 2 sets I ended up buying(buba u4 and kailh box silent), and potentially keycaps I might buy, ended up cheaper than the better options, which is doubly important for people who aren't keyboards collectors and even want to have 2 identical boards for home and office for that consistency. Also the rk browns feel like an upgraded version of the cherry ones, which is a really nice starting point for light-tactile people, which despite the hate from enthusiasts is probably the most normie friendly category

I got my first ever mechanical keyboard this year, and it was RKG68. And I chose it because, other than how affordable it is, it has A LOT of potential, especially for beginners. It already has 3 way connections (bluetooth, wireless, wired), its hotswappable, it has RGB, and the design is simple and compact yet it still maintaining designated arrow keys. Also, u get extra switches, keycaps and switch puller, and USB type C cable FOR FREE? Everything u ever wanted as an entry level keyboard, tbh 🤣. Also, u can improve it a lot just by simple modding, like changing the keycaps into XDA profile, tape mod, lube mod, etc.. like it has sooo many potential. No wonder the brand was so popular. Definitley my best purchase this year 🙈

I love your content keep. Keep it up! I have a rk61 and it is wireless, I've been wanting to build a different keyboard for so long now but I always have budget problems and shipping problems (becuase I live in Poland and shipping itself if over 100$ and my entire budget is 100-125$)also I preferably want a 75% keyboards and all of them are so expensive even without switches and keycaps. Thanks, have a nice day!

Just modded my rk 68 (855). Still using stock blue switches. Just added new key caps & o rings (yes Ik o rings are controversial but I literally just use this keyboard for my PS5). Even fresh out the box, it is a great keyboard. Rgb can be better and is better if you get different key caps (that happened in my case) & o rings get rid of a majority of that hollowness sound without taking the entire thing apart

I just picked up the RK61 and having come from using a Red Dragon Kumara K551, the RK61 is pleasantly quieter. I had some sound deadening foam leftover from installing a speaker in my car and while I had to trim it to be thinner in order for everything to screw back together, the mod really dampened the intensity while thickening the sound. Almost like a different keyboard altogether!

Been daily driving an rk61 for 2 months now. Blue switchers. I code so its loud asf and gets beat on relentlessly. Best keyboard ive ever used. If you are getting into mechanical keyboards its the best bang for the buck hands down. Better than any razor mini mech ive ever tried and half the price. Not every keyboard is a "gaming" keyboard either. Some of us just love the style and extra space but whatever lol

I bought one of these about 8 months ago but in black for about 80 dollars and it held up very well I have put atleast 10 hours a day on it since then as a daily and it has a great build quality, I bought some lube for the switches and have used it 1 time to lube my switches, doesn't sound hollow, no ping, but my switches are starting to give out on me understandably. I found this to be a great keyboard for a daily keyboard and I have a razer black widow for when I need the extra numpad keys and it suits me very well this keyboard is great.

I'm looking at getting the RK84 with red switches. That one has the option of being either wired or wireless. I've never done any type of keyboard mod but I'm thinking of doing simple things like taping the back of the PCB, lubing the switches and probably changing the caps

I think you should try modding the RK84. I have that one and it is wireless, has 2 USB ports and 1 USB-C port. It also has some magnetic feet which you can attach and detach pretty easy. It has also north facing LEDs. I think you forgot to mention that it has his own software.
