Seen the cruelty free comment and it got me curious. You know a few months ago, Ellen DeGeneres was attacked for associating with Bush who was openly homophobic and considered the worst due to Iraqi war. She was called hypocritical. We'll by logic and deductive reasoning, association or hint of association with what's cruel should be deemed hypocritical right? Now, am wondering, trying to attempt to reach or replicate the taste of an animal isn't that the same? Isn't that just putting more emphasis on the fact that people crave that taste and by extension support the emphasis that animal meat is great? Doesn't it contribute to "tempting" and telling more vegan people that achieving that closeness is a good thing? I am just curious how people justify wanting to get the taste ........ Let's take the same scenario for another vice in human society and try to replace the logic there. Does the same logic work? I am really curious

@@marzadky4934 wanting to eat meat in a way that eliminates animal cruelty is no where near as bad as murdering an animal for that same urge. most vegans have eaten meat most of their lives, so having a vegan meat alternative is obviously gonna make the switch over easier.

Mushrooms work great with sharwarma spices. Not sure if you can do it on a spit though, i just broil them on a wire rack to let the moisture drip off. (I use cremini)

If you can taste the celery from celery root maybe other root vegetables could work, right? I was thinking jicama could be a good root vegetable to use because it doesn't have a strong distinct flavour like celery root.

My mom makes it at home and it tastes a lot better than the store bought (and healthier too! Also for some reason recipes you find online use a lot more oil than my family does)

Since this is meant to be a substitute for meat it is completely okay if it tastes LIKE meat. If it is just an alternative it does not need to taste like meat. This is my opinion :) You are doing a fricking good job, Merle

Nice... I think it would've came better if the slices were marinated and cooked a bit longer. 325 F sounds a little to low for 60 mins. I'm also wondering how turnips would work for this... My default is always tofu, though. This would be good with marinated tofu.

We call this "gyros" in Greece. We put the meat inside a pita bread with fries, tomatoes, onion, tzatziki sauce etc(there are many variations) and that's the most typical and loved fast food here! Loved the video, very creative!

Looks like you gave the tester the edges in the sandwich and it looked GOOD, how about it being cooked longer also?? Or marinated alone for like hours. Or both. Then doing the horizontal basting.... How about not cutting them flat or perfectly flat, because once the basting and the previous mentioned come in-- you get some blessed tasting crevices, :)

I’m old, I’m not particularly bitter but I’d say pretty mired in REALITY, so some might say “jaded” in regard to gushing love but the way Aria clings to Merle girl in those hugs just BOOM my heart, it’s so dang endearing and adorable and just such a sight for sore eyes. This actually might have been one of my favorite videos in the series. This one especially, highlights a lot of the things that I love about Merle's channel. One, I love that she always brings Aria in to taste the food. I like when people embrace that a real way to test whether or not something will pass as a viable alternative to meat is by bringing in someone eats meat. I also love, and this is something that was also done in this one specifically, how Merle also loves to preserve the origins of the foods that she recreates and says that that is one of the more important aspects of veganizing something; paying tribute to its true nature. Oftentimes you find people trying to capitalize on erasure. Really tho, can we admit once again that Merle's singing voice is just 😘👌🏿

I've never had meat shwarma before so I don't know what it's supposed to taste like; I'm excited to try this though! I don't have much experience w/ vegetables, growing up we were a meat and starch family, always some kind of meat w/ rice, potatoes, noodles, etc. I'm trying to widen my palette by doing the 7-day maybe longer if I like how it's going vegan challenge

This looks interesting. Usually we mix olive oil and lemon juice to the spices to make a paste and rub it on the meat and let it marinade in the fridge for a couple hours to overnight. Im curious to see if this would work for the celery root?
