We've all heard that AI is taking the world by storm and threatening to put artists and photographers out of business... but does artificial intelligence really beat the human imagination? I decided put AI to the test by taking excerpts from my new book and asking Midjourney (a popular AI art software) to turn my writing into realistic photographs. The results were SHOCKING, to say the least. In this video, I'm reacting to the good, the bad, and the ugly... and deciding once and for all if technology can be trusted.
⚠️ DISCLAIMER ⚠️ I do not use AI-generated artwork in any professional capacity. The purpose of this video is to make you laugh! It's just a silly challenge for entertainment purposes, and y'all should know that I only support the creative genius of REAL artists. 🙏🏼😉

If this video is monetized at all then you are profiting from the "creative genius of REAL artists" that has been stolen and fed into AI without their consent. Please don't use AI, even as a joke it's unethical. Even if you don't use AI in a "professional capacity" you are very literally contributing to the problem by further training the algorithm. Every prompt you enter and result you accept tells the AI what to do and what not to do with its dataset to produce an acceptable image. You are helping it refine the method which makes the program more and more appealing for future users and harder to detect. Every time you enter a prompt, even as a joke, you are doing the techbros' job for them. I urge you to ask yourself this: if someone, for a youtube video, not even to publish and sell, just for a video, went to ChatGPT, fed it all your novels and asked it to create a Pride and Prejudice fanfiction "in the style of Abbie Emmons" would you find that upsetting? I know I at least would be enraged on your behalf if I saw something like that. I know you intended this video to dissuade the use of AI art and I can get behind that. But you are sadly inadvertently contributing to the problem. And for proof you need not go further than this very comments section where there are already pro-AI people telling you how to improve your prompts to get better results. This means there are already people in this very community that are ok with using stolen art work from unconsenting artists. If your intention was to dissuade from AI images then the message needed to be clearer. Generative AI is unethical. It's not enough to make a video to mock stealing while stealing yourself. I don't believe you had any ill will when making this video so I genuinely wrote this in the gentlest tone I could with the sole purpose of informing. I hope it doesn't come across harsh.

@@ilovebeinagirlI don't think mere improvements can solve the problem what AI is having now, because what AI cannot do, due to how it is built to operate, is the capacity to read between the lines and understand the nuances hidden in texts. Basically, I'm expecting AI to naturally be intuitive if it were to impress someone like me, which is inherently impossible because of how AI performs. It can only collect concrete data that exists in the internet. It cannot generate intuitively new ideas out of thin air. In the end, AI will only become someone else's tool, by design it's inherently in service to the human mind, which by nature makes humans superior to AI, utterly putting it in its place.

Even though it is fascinating, I'm concerned in a decade people will directly be born into these way of making "art" and will not even be able to discern between art that came from the heart and images that were asked to a "machine demi-god" (asked only because one didn't want to try connecting with oneself through making art). And even worst, normal people (who don't make art) will see no difference and, since ai images are mass produced they will eventually take over the market leaving real art in the past. The point here isn’t about creating standalone art. It’s about creating mere illustrations for a story written by a human being, and the *story* is the actual art, in this case. You can create a lot more images on the cheap this way, images that no indie author would pay any professional artist to create in this quantity otherwise. So the AI isn’t taking away anyone’s job here. Likewise, some painters or video editors might put AI-generated music behind some of their videos. I wouldn’t call that music art either, but then again, that’s not the point - it’s just something to quickly add another sensory modality to the actual piece of art - in this case, the video or painting.

@@cosmicprison9819 It's the same. I'm not talking about her video. I just made a point in general. I know her intentions are noble. But if you want to make it really technical, she did make money from that because she used them in a video and yt is paying her something. However, that's not my point, I'm not here to blame her, her intentions were noble as I said. And besides, it's not about jobs, it's about people losing the meaning of art. Whichever field, visual, musical, literary. Using these technologies like a joke now is meaningless. New generations will be born using that and they'll not only not really do anything themselves, but when one does it will be disregarded. People will live in ignorance, but that's ok, ignorance is bliss after all...

You need to adapt your text into something that resembles an image caption (kind of short and to the point while still being descriptive), not just copy and paste from the book. @@ptolemyhenson6838 That is true, and this is where my subtraction to AI performance actually stems from. Improving AI that it will be able to include intricate details to its result doesn't actually solve the problem. The solution should be that AI becomes a tool that knows how to discern hidden meanings and patterns behind texts, like an inutitive person does. Which it cannot do, because AI is not designed that way. Because of this, AI will always be put in its place in service to the human creators under the authority of a creator's imagination, no matter how much it improves over time. In other words, AI's improvment will inherently only be covering superficial matters, which can actually be enough to convince a lot of people that it's a cool tool, but it doesn't help make AI self-sufficient.

AI creeps me out big time. I don't want it to take over our creativity. Humans are creative beings and I don't want so super smart robot taking that over. I want to improve my brain-health so that I can get better at writing and hopefully turn it into a career. When AI is used, there is no heart or creativity in whatever it creates.

I just noticed, there's a Van Gogh painting in the background. Subtle. Come to think of it, Hironimus Bosh's work looks very much like A.I. art. Humans and objects/landmarks are combined, characters incite very little empathy, and some things I can only recognize in a vague way: a fruit, a creature, a person in Hell (his work is very Christian). There's that sense of collectiveness, like we're all just part of one fantastical gray goo or something. One difference I would note, however, is that Hironimus Bosh's paintings look like they came from a very active and angry and sick mind. They look mentally ill. To me, this is, not so much the problem with A.I. art, but the thing human art has that its artificial stand-in doesn't. Personality. Every Midjourney image has the exact same backstory: a human gave it some "inspiration" and an A.I. did it. All it does is imitate what humanity has already done. There is no "why it matters". I see no moral issue with viewing it, but there's no reason not to forget those images either.

It is funny! I would like to shoutout for more context and information about Generative AI, please see Adam Conover's interview with Emily Bender , Timnit Gebru and Gary Marcus (his skit AI is BS is entertaining too ) and the Concept Art Association summit machine learning videos (keynote speech with Steven Zapata and intro to the issues with Karla Ortiz ) Please support real human artists and we must not succumb to Tech corpos pushing the marketed "AI" (which really isn't Artificial Intelligence)

I do use Bing however that is because I cannot hire an artist. When I do become a professional author and get the money to do so, I would love to hire a professional artist. However, AI can be hilarious. It can go from: “This person is staring into my soul” to “What eldritch monster did I just create?” I also usually never take credit for the art, always stating that I do use AI.

everytime you use ai you contribute to it improving its algorithm (that uses stolen artwork). pls don't use ai even as a joke, creators, writers and artist should stand together

I honestly think AI algorithm is inherently limited by design. No matter how people think it is improving, even if it seems to show that it does, it actually really isn't. 😅 AI can only do better on the place it is designed to perform, which is to simply replicate data that already exists. The people that tend to come on top above AI are not only the most talented creators out there, but also the ones who know how to solve problems that AI inherently cannot provide, but they do. Thus, they turn their solution into a creative product that's unique against AI. Basically, with the existence of AI, creators everywhere are now needed to do their work more skillfully, but not only that, they need to be smarter.

This video is dangerous. AI is developing at at a crazy rapid rate. If it's this shitty now and isn't trained to write stories, imagine where it'll be in 3 years. Smartphones only came is 2007, you realize? AI WILL get better at writing fiction. Engineers are gonna make sure of it. This video is like comparing the Ford Model T to a Tesla Model 3...
