I hope this vid helps you to get to your perfect fit faster and more consistently! These tools have been a HUGE IMMENSE IMMEASURABLE confidence boost for me because I don't worry as much about "will it fit?" or panic that I can't afford any mistakes because I only bought the exact amount of fabric needed to do it once perfectly (whyyyyy do we do this to ourselves) Function of Beauty linked here if you're looking for it! cen.yt/functionwithwendy to get 20% off your custom formula ✨

Tip from a fashion designer. Bodice blocks always have darts ending right on the "peaks of the boobs", to not draw attention to these peaks or get a bullet bra effect, always shift darts that land on boob peaks a 2cm or so away from said peaks. Don't know if you knew this already but there yo have it.

I love the Lutterloh system, and have used it for years. The one thing to keep in mind is that it works better the closer your body is to being evenly proportioned (because it's based on a standardized human proportion, a la DaVinci Man). So you will have to make adjustments for individual body quirks like a large bust, swayback, long/short waist, etc. OTOH, you generally have to do that for any commercial pattern anyway, and commercial patterns are often graded to larger/smaller sizes from the core block in ways that distort proportions more the further off the standard size they get. Because of that, you usually get quite a bit closer to your own body shape with the Lutterloh system on the first go than you would with a commercial pattern. But a multi-measurement custom block will fit best since it captures all those quirks to begin with. So generally speaking, a Lutterloh pattern will end up somewhere between a custom block and a commercial pattern (and usually closer to the custom block, unless you are a significant proportional outlier).

This was such a timely video for me as I've just acquired my mother's Golden Rule book from Lutterloh two days ago. Hers is full of patterns from the 50's or 60's (I've been trying to get my hands on it for the last three decades or so!) and it's nice to see that while some alterations are likely to be needed, it's a useable system.

Very interesting overview, this must have taken a lot of time to film given all the contruction involved. I am trying out both techniques at the moment (made myself a DIY lutterloh ruler and following their jacket top demo). After playing with both approaches over the last day or so I believe it is possible to combine them to go even faster - by simply taking the width of the finished diagram of the Inthefolds blog and scaling it according to the desired bust width (DE line = bust line = bust size/2 + ease/2, as indicated in the blog). The other dimensions seem to follow naturally ... at least for the person I am attempting to draft the bodice for. Thanks a lot for all your content BTW ! I am a beginner trying to wrap my head around all this and your channel has been a great ressource.

Love it! I'm planning to make my own wedding dress and even dough I am really artsy and stuff, and I know how to sew and modify clothes, I have never made a dress from scratch, so this helps a lot.

As I’m getting back into sewing this video will be extremely useful. In the past I always had an issue with fit and it discouraged me enough to make me stop sewing altogether.

Love what you make as always!😍😍😍 A little trick I figured out a few weeks ago, you can buy erasable pens that actually disappear with the heat of the friction, so they actually go away with a little ironing 😊 it work great and allows you to make super precise lines or mark itty bitty hole on fabric for the darts♥️
