Thanks to Fujifilm USA for offering to lend me the X100 VI for two weeks. They're great folks over there!
So, I had this entire idea for this video. The original title was "Will a new shiny camera motivate you to shoot?" It was a little bit of a personal experiment (I have not been motivated to shoot lately) and also a bit of an obvious mockery (obviously NO...the camera will not motivate you).
However, it just didn't come together as I had envisioned...so, you get this mish-mosh of shooting + some thoughts on the new X100 VI. I hope you enjoy at least a little bit of it. Even though I hate it.
:)

Thanks for making this one. My takeaway is that you don't need new gear to get out of a slump...try a new perspective or location. Also, for hobbyists, there's no shame in taking a break from photography until inspiration/interest returns. I read about photographers losing interest in shooting all the time, and unless you're doing it for a living, there's it's perfectly fine to step back for a little. No one's forcing you to take photos! Your photos are beautiful but nothing that only a fujifilm can take. Once again, it proves the most important thing is the twelve inches behind the camera. Thanks again, I love your channel and philosophy.

You did it right! You can change lenses (stick with the same is f**** boring) and you will not look like a trendy cool kid (all with the same camera). Well done! (I’m a former owner of X100V, I sold in a year and a half… love it but bored and not pocketable, which is what I was looking for).

It's a great camera, but I actually found it to be too small for my hands. I exchanged it for a used XH-1 to suit my fat fingers😂. Great camera and great sensor though. I do, however, own an X100T as well and it is my most used piece of kit.

As a street photographer one thing I do and encourage people to do when they get into a slump: head out into the city with a different lens, most of the time we head out with our wide angle lenses but slapping a 70-200mm on brings a whole new perspective and I see the city in a whole new light and perspective. 😃

The X100 seires as a whole is just a really good formula I think. It's the perfect combination between size, image quality and features / fun. You have a camera that you can put in your coat pocket, but it also has a very good optical viewfinder, it looks good, it has good image quality and a nice prime lens on it. I don't think it's only for people that "only want one fujifilm", it's also for people that "only want one camera PERIOD". With that you have pretty much all you'd need for an everyday carry / camera for social events for people that want a higher quality camera than their phones that also looks good. And really to me the nicest part about all of this is that the formula stays true for all X100 cameras, from the original 2011 one to that 2024' X100VI. They are both used for the same thing. Each generation added some stuff, but none were a major departure. I personally have way too many camera systems, I shoot Fuji X, Nikon F, Nikon Z, Sigma SA (recently even a little bit of Canon EF...) but I still picked up an X100S (which I think is a bargain) simply because it's the sweetspot camera for small travel, friends and family and every day carry. No other camera on the market has the same ingredients !

Nice opening set of thoughts on the camera. I ordered one in black on whim when it was announced. The day before release-day (28 Feb 24 in the UK), to my surprise, the dealer in the UK rang to say it would be ready to collect 'tomorrow.' Although I have had and still use Fujis, I had not owned a X100 series before. The week after collecting it (with the weather resistance kit and the wide convertor lens, went to Switzerland for a holiday and it was absolutely fantastic. The only observation regarding your thoughts is on the way to initiate a video recording. I have assigned the video trigger to Fn2 (in the middle of the front lever). Just hitting it once starts recording and hitting it a second time stops the recording. Thus, I do not have to go via the screen and the drive menu. This is much faster and easier. Thanks again.

Apc is a great alternative for people that don’t want to go to the gym just to be able to cary their lenses. I loved your video (with that chique small Apc camera with IBIS) and I always like it when you just go about en shoot. I think your videos’, where I as a viewer, am invited to your photosafari are the best (You’re a bit like the ItchyBoots of photography). I like photographing with you, on the other side of the planet. Your search for your photography, your joy of photography is what makes your channel great. So I do hope that your time in New York gave you inspiration for more travels and more vlogs. I also hope you make some video’s with the x-pro 2 (wasn’t that your investment/ showmodel camera?), but in the end I don’t care with which brand you shoot, as long you take us along.

I am so happy the X100 line is so popular because I have been so happy with the Fujifilm X100S. The autofocus is slow compared to my canon SLR, the camera is unnecessarily big compared to my Sigma DP2 or even the film Fujifilm SuperMini but it just has all what I need, an aperture, a shutter dial, many lovely recipes to get different authentic colors (editing feels like overlaying a filter) I have had not more beautiful photos than with my smartphone, but each one have been a pleasure and my friends and relatives want to hold it (and robbers too he he)

Received mine March 14th. So it’s not quite impossible to get one. Have to say, preordered on the day of announcement. It’s my first Fuji cam and I’m overwhelmed by the many menus and ditto options. It’s quite a learning experience. Overall a fun camera but on the expensive side for a grownup toy-ish camera.

My motivation for hitting the street is to talk with people and hear their story and hopefully get a memorable shot in the process. I get super bored with street photos with no story. As far as the X100VI, I was very surprised how solid the build quality is compared to my Q2. Not the same but still surprising. I used an X100V once and it felt like a toy so not sure what the difference is cause the 6 is nearly identical. Design/looks matter to me too and gotta say with some accessories it is a beautiful camera.

Ended up with a Ricoh GRIIIx last year because I had a trip planned and simply couldn’t find a X100V. Fuji made the camera I wanted for that trip, but at the end of the day I documented an experience with a very similar lens and sensor size. I can’t wait to own an X100 series but timing just wasn’t right. No regrets, still taking the photos I want to take in the mean time.

For me motivation to carry ranks a bit higher than motivation to shoot. I find that my best shots were unexpected. I was just in a place at the right time and had my camera. My X-T always made me want to go shoot, but that desire didn't necessarily translate to the best images, which after a day of hauling it was frustrating. The X70 however, was never calling me in the same way because it's more simple and plain, but it was always there when I needed it - and it has gotten me more print worthy photos than anything until my GR came along. I think it's why I might personally choose the Z30 over the Zf.

I used two different X100s for two different trips and the VI is by far (far and away) my favorite. The IBIS makes all the difference in the world. The extra creative tools (40mp and IBIS) definitely motivates me to get out. I prefer my larger X-T5 with a zoom lens, but as a one-for-all camera, this one has it. I wouldn’t say the AF is loud. I’ve used it indoors and out. Hasn’t been a distraction.

So photos of my family, my dog, friends, and when we travel. Or scenes that make me experience a sense of wonder, beauty, or awe. If I wouldn’t want to print the photo physically, I try not to take a photo

Back in the day I went from the x100s to the t and I immediately noticed the louder AF, and it annoyed me alot. Then I went for the f model, and the AF was still noisy, and to be honest, not very accurate. I got the green confirm focus square alot, only to find the image out of focus when watched on a big screen - most often focusing on the background. Sold all three models. Well now, in 2024 watching my old photos, I fell in love with the image character of my old x100s, and bought a mint used one. And I love it! It is relatively slow, but I really like the simplicity of the camera, and actually find its limitations a relief. Much like when deciding on which lens to bring for my dslr, the fewer lenses I own, the easier it gets. Photography should not be stressful, and while there is alot to like about the newer x100 models, I find that they give me too many options. For once, please make it a photography only camera!

Very similar setup! I also have the XT3, X100V, and GR3, and I just pulled the trigger on a Leica M6 Reissue with a Summarit 23mm f2.5. Since 2020, I've found myself increasingly drawn to shooting film and have grown somewhat weary of digital photography. That's why the Q-series felt a bit tedious to me, whereas the M-series (especially the M262, MP, and M6) shines in a unique and captivating way (even though the M262 is still digital, it gives me a pure rangefinder experience).

If you love the looks of the newest Fuji-film x100 then I would recommend you look at the X100s. The images that this camera produces are amazing It may be slightly slower at autofocus. Personally I have found it perfectly acceptable for street photography and portrait photography. The X100F has many more features ( which I bought secondhand) but comparing images I still think in my opinion the X100s produces better results. So if you want to explore the world of Fuji film X100 would recommend you buy a secondhand X100s. You will not be disappointed and you will save yourself a small fortune!

Loved that with a turn of the focus ring, i have access to the digital crop tool that give me a digital 50 and 75mm focal length while leaving me with a respective 20 and 10mp file -- which is more than enough for most needs. Thanks for this video! What a nice new island! I urgently need to come back to NYC. I haven't been there since 2011.

Thanks Omar for your insight.. The X100VI is probably for the majority of people that missed out or didnt get their pre-orders filled from the V..basically.. And for the other half of people that already has the V and argue that this does not seem to be a good successor over the V..then this iteration is probably not for you! If you choose not to “upgrade” from the V to the VI!..then move on and wait for the next model! .simple as that! No need to justify to yourself that the V is better or i like “26 megapixels"...and bad mouth this VI.. then keep your V and be quite! sometimes i think the people who bad mouth the VI are probably V owners who are butt hurt that they paid "resell" prices for the camera and didn't just want to wait for the VI..lol but for the other people they might like this camera and see it as a good upgrades and like the extra megapixels, improved AF, new processor etc..its all subjective at the end of the day..

Does anyone know how to get the EVF to just show the small patch in the corner of the OVF? I got it to come up once when I first unboxed the camera but never saw it again. Any ideas?

I never buy on hype. I will stick to my XS-20 and the tiny prime on it. And when I want more versatile, I throw on a zoom. A great tiny package.

Until I can walk into a shop and test the ergonomics of a new X100-XE-XPro series Fuji camera in the hand and actually have the possibility to buy it across the counter, remember those days, I won't even contemplate putting any more money Fuji's way regardless how gushing their promotional machine tells me their products are. I'm not buying into this Pre-Order, " Not in Time " production model they appear to be operating these days to manage their cashflow without risk.

Wait? What?! Did someone send Omar a Fuji that has silver on it? How disrespectful! Anyone that knows and respects him - knows he likes all black and does NOT like the silver! Nice shots, Omar. A part of me wants this beauty but I really don’t love the 35mm point of view even though I know I can punch in on JPEGs.

Thanks for a great channel! Any thoughts on the HEIF file format? From what I understand this format stores more info in a smaller sized file, so can somewhat compensate for the larger files from the 40Mpix sensor?

Is it just me or Fuji (maybe X100vi in particular) looks more and more processed compared to the older, say, X-T100 which has a more film look to them.

Very apt title! Years on from the V and Fuji have still not sorted out supply chain, perhaps they should speak to Apple or other big orgs who make products people can actually buy, brand loyalty being tested to the max
