Since the existing motor on the ROKR/‪@Robotime‬ marble run link pack was struggling and was too slow, I had decided to upgrade it and modify the kit by replacing the motor and adding a speed controller with a switch.
In this video I will walk you through on how I have done it and what is the best motor you can use to achieve that ultimate speed and power.
It is also entirely up to you if you would like the motor to be plugged into mains or use a 9V battery of which I believe would be perfectly enough for most people here.
You will see at the end of the video how well it all is running and what difference does that speed and power makes.
Here is the list of the items I had used in the video and I have also added 9V batteries and the 9V battery covers. And all of these items are from Amazon and i have 2 lists, 1 for the UK and one for the USA Amazon.
USA Amazon list:
Motor: amzn.to/3Y2u1nk
Speed controller: amzn.to/3zzcnxH
9V Battery: amzn.to/45WsL7c
Battery connector: amzn.to/3Lj0wGm
UK Amazon list:
Motor: amzn.to/45Vd1RX
Speed controller: amzn.to/3xFnjJw
9V Battery: amzn.to/4cVJhXH
Battery connector: amzn.to/3xQja5y

I watched your video with the standard motor and you said it was way to slow but it did work. Wouldn't the weight of the steel balls still fall into place as they move around and work like it's supposed to even though the gears run a little slower. Honestly I don't see how the gears spinning faster would make it run any smoother. I'm still waiting for the addon kit to arrive and I will definitely be watching your video's during the build. I'm not sure I'm smart enough to modify the kit like you are doing so I may be stuck with original pieces when I get started. One thing for sure, you just got a new sub, I appreciate the time you take explaining what you are doing and hoe to do it.
@MartinsAssemblyHaven
@MartinsAssemblyHaven 28 күн бұрын
Hey, thank you for watching it and thank you very much for the Sub, it’s much appreciated 😊 So the existing motor does work, but it is far too slow and it takes ages for the steel balls to travel up and then go down, and to make the gears and the whole run smoother I had to align bits and also superglue some pieces in place to stop them from moving or displacing themselves and I also waxed everything really well and honestly it runs amazing now and is very smooth 😃 And I hope you enjoy the build once you get the kit and you do t necessary have to modify it if you’re happy with the speed and power it produces 😊

Great work. I tried your links to order the parts through those links. But the motor shows as unavailable for US addresses. Perhaps because you link to Amazon Uk. Any chance you can provide links that will help you and be available in the US? Thanks and best regards!

@@MartinsAssemblyHaven: Good morning, Martin, from New York City. It works great. Could you find an equivalent link for the speed controller. I have 9 volt batteries, battery clips and, I think, a mains plug-in that can provide 12V DC. Best reards and thanks again!

Another quick question Martin, can you get away with just the upgrade motor or do you have to have the speed controller as well? Sorry for all the questions but I thank you for all answers.
@MartinsAssemblyHaven
@MartinsAssemblyHaven 23 күн бұрын
No no don’t you be sorry, just ask whenever you need to 😊 And that really depends on what type of motor you are using. If the motor has high RPM and is like a 9V-12v motor then you might need it because once you attach it to power, it might go really fast/too fast. So you’d need to find that perfect motor speed really that doesn’t need to have its speed controlled.

Great help but a little more if i may be so bold… i am yet to build my spaceport but was interested in you mention of a modification to stop two balls from entering… how will i know if i have the modified version? What does the part look like?

If you have a look that would be great as I’d also like to know if you have e that extra small piece right at the end 😊 And that’s not a bad idea, but I can’t advise unfortunately on how to do it without attaching everything first, but I hope it all goes well once you’re doing it 🤞

Dear Martins, I have a question, and please excuse my English, but I understand that if you change the engine, the USB sockets will only work for the lights? And the ignition button doesn't work? Is that right? Thanks.

When connecting it to be mains powered, does it connect to the part that the old motor connects to, or is it running into its own separate plug?
@MartinsAssemblyHaven
@MartinsAssemblyHaven 24 күн бұрын
Hey, I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding your question, but the mains cables connect directly at the back of the new motor 🙂

Ah ok so just cut the cables off the old motor?@@MartinsAssemblyHaven
@MartinsAssemblyHaven
@MartinsAssemblyHaven 23 күн бұрын
If you’re planning on connecting the existing motor to mains, I would definitely not recommend that. The best you could do is attach a 9V battery to it to make it go faster, but that will eventually burn out the motor as the existing motor is only like 5V and then you’ll have to replace it.
@AbominableIronSloth
@AbominableIronSloth 23 күн бұрын
No no, I mean how do you connect the new motor to the mains. Did you take the wires from the old motor and hook it up to the new one so it has that little connector on the end?@@MartinsAssemblyHaven
@MartinsAssemblyHaven
@MartinsAssemblyHaven 23 күн бұрын
Oh alright sorry. You got me worried there 😅 Yeah I just cut of the end of the plug and connected it as the old motor wires are just a bit tiny. Just make sure the cable you are using has an output of 12V or less and not much higher and obviously be super cautious as electricity is no joke.
